Authorities believe the two men were arguing over money around 6 p.m. on March 15 when Slack struck Garrett in the head with a concrete object and strangled him. Ray and Herbert Slack later returned to Garrett's home with the intention of robbing him...

Jurors deliberated four hours before returning a guilty verdict against Ray Slack on March 8, 2012. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder charges and seven additional years in prison for the armed robbery charge.

Herbert Slack pleaded guilty to failure to register as a sex offender and was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment with credit for time served.
