IL - Roberto Rolon, Zoraida Bartolomei and their two children, murdered, Romeoville, 17 Sept 2023

  • #61
"..., a neighbor, said she had last spoken with Bartolomei on Friday. They talked about how one of the children had grown his hair to cut and donate it for a children’s cancer awareness campaign."

Such incredible cruelty rained down on them by the couple who fled police in OK.

Hispanic media is starting to mention a racial or hate crime as a potential motive.
Waaay to early for that- at least from professional journalists.

Heck, the ethnicities of the suspects have not been released. Not every Hispanic has an Spanish surname (Zimmerman comes to mind). Not every Hispanic has a Spanish first name.

Carribean Hispanics such as Puerto Ricans often come from relatively small islands where Hispanics of different races and / or foreign visitors are common.

The end result is that a good number of Puerto Ricans have two cultural identities (US and Puerto Rican). They are accustomed to having social contacts amongst a variety of people from a variety of races (some hispanic, some not) and a variety of other ethnic groups. Social contact can bring violence that has nothing to do with race or ethnicity.

"These were hardworking people that had just bought their first home," according to the account. "Their kids were the sweetest most innocent angels who could hug your worries away. In just a few hours their lives, their family’s lives completely changed. The world is going to be a much dimmer place without them."

Thanks for the updates. I hope the woman can recover and tell authorities what she might know.

El Vocero, a newspaper from Puerto Rico, is now reporting that the car involved in the crash and burned incident, is indeed owned by ERMALINDA PALOMO who was seated in the passenger's seat.

So much for the "professional" journalists speculating about a hate crime. It turns out that one of the persons of interest is very likely Hispanic herself.

'Palomo' as a last name is pretty rare in Mexico. It could be more common in the Carribean. This could increase the chances that she is not only Hispanic, but possibly Puerto Rican herself. Hate crime possibilities seem to be going down

I wish there was a law that forbid speculative reporting- especially when the speculation turns out to be false. But.... I guess there would be alot of First Amendment issues.

Not much new except the women's name and that the woman is suspected of helping Huey in the murders

^^rsbm

I'm not addressing hate crime here but I must disagree with OP's statement that this surname is pretty rare in Mexico.

There are numerous, random social media, LinkedIn, and even Obits citing Mexico as the homeland! Just read an interview a few days ago on NPR about a musician (Alan Palomo) also from Monterrey, Mexico.

As a Puerto Rican, I can confirm that Palomo is not a surname you will find in the Island.

I don't think the origin of the name matters that much, except that it hints that Palomo likely knew one of the victims.

Chicago has fairly eclectic Latino community,

Who knows? Maybe Huey was the one who knew the family and Palomo happened to be his friend (Just speculation, so who knows)
Anyway, right now, they haven't given us much info.

Still wondering about the motive ?
What could cause someone to commit such an act of total annihilation.

Speculating that it was some long-simmering resentment or that the killers were insanely paranoid about something.
To wipe out every living thing incl. the pets sounds like someone who's become completely unhinged.
Hoping for answers for the surviving family members.

Maybe the injured person in the car accident will be able to say what happened ?
Omo.

It will be interesting to find the nexus here, between the killer and the family that was murdered. Was it just random? Seems more personal to me.

I mean, even Brian Kohberger didn't kill a dog during his murder rampage in Idaho. These folks killed three dogs, and two children. Definitely seems like more than a random home invasion.

This was not random. My guess is that Huey had a working relationship with one of the adults. And I can be way off.

Google stated that "Palomo" is a surname of Spanish or Italian origin.
