A lawsuit filed by the victim's parents against Ally Bardfield, 34, said the boy was invited over for "play dates."

ugg, when I saw this come across my FB feed this morning I was sickened. Decatur is just down the road from me. 11. I mean who finds an 11 year old sexually attractive?? A Pedo. We always picture a pedo as that sketchy guy in a beat up white van, or the little league coach who spends a little too much time solo around the kids, but more and more we are seeing women, accused of these mind boggling things.

Maybe it's always been so, but we are just hearing about it more, maybe there's been an uptick in female offenders, not sure, but it is highly disturbing either way.

The child’s mother noticed her son acting differently after the second visit. When she checked his phone, she discovered social media messages between him and Bardfield and up to $700 sent to him through CashApp.

Initially accused of grooming, Bardfield now faces charges of predatory criminal sexual assault of a minor. In a police interview, Bardfield admitted to having sexual relations with the 11-year-old on one occasion, claiming the child made sexual advances toward her that night.

the State has recommended a sentence cap of 40 years, with eligibility for release after serving 85% of the term.

How and why does an 11-yo-old even have CashApp?

It's not uncommon and it's the least disturbing thing about this case. Parents set up accounts for their kids to make it easier to send their allowance, cash gifts from family, etc. The kids can have debit cards and use them for purchases without using their parent's card. My kiddo has had her own checking account (not cash app) since 8 or 9. I was able to enable Zelle when she turned 13.

I'm so glad this kid's mom noticed something was off and dug deeper. Hopefully he gets proper support going forward.

I think it unlikely that there is an increase in the number of female paederasts. What we're seeing is female offenders actually being treated like the predators they are. Especially with male victims, very recently in the past a disclosure of sexual assault by an adult woman would be treated with a ribald joke about how precocious he is, how he's getting experience. I'm not saying that doesn't still happen, but I certainly take the prosecution of more women as a sign that things are changing for the better where female offenders and male victims are concerned.
