With higher end watches, they usually have a serial number. Usually it is on the inside of the case back. This is to identify fakes. Also, the serial is used for tracking.

I'm not sure about Burberry, but that might be a good place to start. They could track down the original seller.

I've been watching all of the papers for mention of the man's identity but nada.

Namus has removed the listing though so it's apparent they know who he is.

Sorry to disagree, but Burberry is not a high end or expensive watch brand. It's a fashionable brand but not one someone with wealth, or even aspirations to wealth, would wear.

In fact I'd say that Burberry, especially that check design, is rather naff these days.

Based off having to look up Naff I'm going to guess you're British. From British people I've run into state side in Las Vegas, there are assumptions made with the brand.

Burberry is still quite fashionable state side. Extremely high end, no. I know what I have paid for my Burberry purses and my husband has a Burberry watch (not the one pictured). I like it because it's not the Louis that everyone else seems to carry.

ETA: what I'm implying is it's not a cheap watch but it's not a Rolex or Tag either. Also state side it's not a wannabe watch.

I'd love a Burberry watch! They are definitely not a 'fashion' watch; I would say that they most likely have some identification numbers etc. I'll see if I can find out for sure.

My husband's has a serial number that's under the backside. If you fill out the registration that number is linked to your name. That number also goes down if you have the watch worked on at any watch battery location for warranty purposes. He had the battery replaced twice in the time he wore it and they were able to keep track.

Now that I have typed that out I'll have to double check to be sure. My husband's is a different style but I would imagine the set up is the same. As soon as I finish chores in the barn I'll have a look.

Edited again:
Looks like it's on the outside of the back plate on his. Has # then model number below it. Then logo and depth/water info.

Correct.

I think it's fair to say that Burberry's star has waned somewhat over this side of the Pond. It seems to have started when the company started to make accessories, including the notorious cap in its famous check pattern (http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/burberry-cap), which were affordable to those who couldn't spend £300 on a trench coat or whatever. Once that new market got a taste for the brand, it sucked in a lot of fake stuff from China so you see a lot of "Burberry" clothing on people who can't afford the real thing.

No, it's not cheap. It sits in that £300 to £700 price bracket where brands such as Tissot sit.

Lol..that reminds me of one of my husband's trips to China. He came back with a pair of sandals for me that said "Burberry's". He said he had to by them because they were so obviously fake it was a gag gift, and cheap, $2 USD. The check wasn't even right.

Back on topic I wish they would release a name if they have identified this man. I've searched a bit and haven't found any updates. I tried finding some matches in Namus but if they have a match, figure the Namus profile would be down too.

[h=1]Bullet-Riddled Body Found Near Joliet Was Atlanta Man[/h]
JOLIET, IL - Almost two months after the bullet-riddled body of an unidentified man was found in a rural Will County ditch, authorities now know their victim's name. On Tuesday, the Will County Coroner's Office revealed the victim was Himer Vazquez. The 35-year-old man lived in Atlanta, GA.

How the homicide victim's body ended up on the outskirts of Joliet will be a mystery for the Will County Sheriff's Department to unravel. The distance from Joliet to Atlanta is 731 miles. On Tuesday, Will County Chief Deputy Coroner Kevin Stevenson told Joliet Patch that officials positively identified Vazquez through "enhanced fingerprint comparisons."

Murder victim: Himer Vazquez, 35, of Atlanta, Georgia.

Unsolved: Will County Highway Department employees came across the decomposed body while mowing a ditch along Manhattan-Monee Road. Complicating the police investigation, authorities found no identification on the man who had died of multiple gunshot wounds. Two months later, in August, Will County positively identified the victim as Vazquez.
