IL - Woman, 34, Assaulted, Abducted, Held Captive but Escapes, Roscoe, 13 Mar 2019 *Arrest*

A horrible crime occurred in Roscoe, Illinois. The crime happened last Wednesday, March 13, 2019. An unnamed women, 34 years old, reported that Matthey Harkey, 43 years old, was hiding in her home when she returned from dropping her children off at school. He attacked, raped, and abducted her, then handcuffed and strapped her to an exercise bench in his basement. When Harkey left the home, she escaped, naked, bleeding, and dragging the exercise bench behind her. The full story is in this article:

Police issued a warrant for his arrest on Wednesday. Harkey was spotted by police early Thursday, and was chased through Edgar, Douglas and Coles counties before he lost control and crashed, and was ejected from his vehicle in Piatt county, according to the News-Gazette. Harkey was taken to a hospital in Champaign county for treatment.

Harkey faces charges of Home Invasion, Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault, Unlawful Restraint, and Residential Burglary.

Harkey is a registered sex offender in Illinois. He was charged with Forced Criminal Sexual Abuse of a 15-year-old in McHenry county when he was 21.

He also had an order of protection filed against him by another woman in October 2018.

He has been charged prior in Winnebago County for twice violating the sex offender registry rules.

It's sad we have thoughts like this, but this criminal does not appear to be interested in rehabilitation. Unless he gets LWOP, he will continue attacking females.

I hope his charges get him life in prison but that's probably wishful thinking. He will do it again and he probably would've murdered her if she hadn't escaped.

A 43-year-old man is indicted for attempted first degree murder following the alleged kidnapping and sexual assault of a 34-year-old Roscoe woman

Harkey is being held in the jurisdiction of the crash on a $1 million bond

His next appearance is scheduled at 9 a.m. April 30 in the Winnebago County Courthouse
