The criminal complaint states that trained forensics agents believed the passenger area of the car had been cleaned to a greater extent than any other part of the vehicle.

It seems as if Yingying was attacked inside the vehicle.
I think it was to erase all prints. It states he brought her back to his apartment.

I'm thinking maybe he told her that he had an apartment too? And she willingly went? IDK. So horrible.

That's partly because only three federal inmates have been executed in the United States since the federal death penalty was reinstated in 1988 after a 16-year moratorium. Those three are:

-- Timothy McVeigh for the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing that killed 168 people. He was executed June 11, 2001.

-- Juan Raul Garza convicted of killing three people and running a marijuana drug ring in Texas. He was executed June 19, 2001.

-- Louis Jones for the kidnapping and murder of 19-year-old Army Pvt. Tracie McBride. He was executed March 18, 2003.

Before McVeigh's execution in 2001, the federal government had not put anyone to death since 1963.

While I was out today I bought a candle that I was going to light tonight that Yingying find her back into the loving arms of her family. I'm crushed. This isn't the outcome any of us wanted, but it sounds like LE has the monster if he admitted to it.

:heartbeat: Rest peacefully Yingying :heartbeat:

I'm not too sure what ploy he used to get her into the car, but I think it's safe to say that he doesn't look Chinese, and probably doesn't speak it. .

I'd guess the old "I'm a cop, I'm a security guard" ploy is what led to her demise. Just a homegrown serial killer in the making.
Or maybe she recognised him through the University.

So, the info released that they had the correct car, was actually a message to the perp:. We know you did it. I guess they wanted to shake things up to see if they could get a confession. Just speculation, but I wonder whether they wired up someone like his wife, to go and confront him with the FBI statement, eg "tell me the truth, I won't say anything to police, I just need to know..."

Just wanted to add on top of the sadness of the situation, we should salute the men and women who helped get the case along to this point. While the outcome is not the one we want, we have some closure and are awaiting finality. Thank you to the men and women of the FBI (edit: and Illinois state police) for all of their efforts.

Additionally, from what was stated earlier, we should educate the dating pool in online media to identify signs of at-risk individuals who like this criminal may only need a means and opportunity.

This is so terribly sad. I am thankful that at the very least he has been arrested. I do wonder if she knew him. I know this thread is about Yingying, but I thought I'd point out that Delphi, Indiana is only a two hour drive away.

<modsnip> How long did he have Yingying at the apartment?

Has anyone found any other social media for this guy? Instagram, twitter, POF, etc?

And American psycho...

I wouldn't read too much into that. My SO loves American Psycho and Predator, but he wouldn't do this in a million years. Millions of people have watched those movies without hurting anyone.

It sounds like it's entitlement/narcissism/misogyny, from what has been said of him so far ...

I wonder if he went to a lawyer and had his cell phone with him. Some apps' permissions allow the audio etc. to be turned on without the phone owner's knowledge. Not too sure how legal that would be but it would work I think? Or just chatting with his wife or friend too.

I'm not sure if it would help because I no longer have my dating site account so I'm not sure that they would be able to see the past communications. If they have access to his computer or phone which it sounds like they do they may already be looking into his communications, Right?

YES report!

Staying silent protects the predator.

Speak up & help make certain he's locked up and unable to lure anyone else!!!

Think about the Cosby trial -- if the judge had allowed all the survivors to just stand up in front of the jury, don't you expect that the verdict would have been different?

Stand up!

You can do it, I'm sure you can!

Hmm, maybe we should look into the time frame and see who went missing in the area he was in.
Would you tell us what year you were on that site?
Do y'all think this was his first?

I think she did, if only a little bit. Enough for her to trust him, I think her family was right, she wouldn't have gotten into a car with a complete stranger.

I'm very glad that LE and FBI were so diligent with this case. I wish they gave the same to domestic abductions/murders. It was def the international aspect that solved this case so fast. I have confidence that they will recover Yingying soon as well. Really good work. They were into him 3 days after she was taken. Wow.

IQuestion, I've decided to take on the challenge. I put together a (very brief) list of similarities and differences in the cases you mentioned. I'm at work, so this is a preliminary list that people can add to if they want. I'm sure there is more digging to be done.
(Middle of quote removed for brevity)
There's a lot left to learn in YingYing's case, so maybe there will be more similarities in the end. These three cases seem to involve the boyfriend, fwiw.

[*]Boyfriend used her phone to tell friends she had to fly back to China for a family emergency. He also told friends she would take the bus to Minnesota to see friends after returning from China.
[*]When friends contacted ST’s friends in Minnesota and they had not seen her, they filed a missing persons report.
BF's defense was that she died during a pillow fight that went too far (COD suffocation and blunt force trauma)
[/LIST]
EASTCOASTARINCO:yourock: I need to buy you a gallon of strong coffee! You're a good sleuth and took on the challenge, which is always difficult in a public forum.
Similarities: Chinese female, international student in their 20's
Studying in a foreign country
Each killed by current boyfriend **please note, staying/seeing male bf at the time**
Each victim hidden.
Each suspect fled to China before being prosecuted/caught
BIG DIFFERENCE: None of the victims had been kidnapped while waiting for a bus on a street corner, in broad daylight! Her very handsome (devoted, intelligent, guitar playing) boyfriend was in China studying. Seriously, he would be any parent's dream son-in-law. I'm going back to the thought of someone she might have met "briefly" and "recently".... the info on her phone only provides a record of texts....but not actual conversations.
Every investigation is going to "upset people." (Right Mods?) Spotlights shining on "fractures in society" are going to look like impassable chasms, whether or not found to be germane to the ultimate conclusion. Does that mean we should all sit silently in the dark?

Illinois does not have the death penalty. They abolished it a few years ago.

Yeah, they had this pesky issue of several innocent people on death row...

I found his IG but there are no posts (handle: brendtchristensen)

This is so terrible. I've been following along quietly and even when you expect such an outcome, you're still left with a feeling of overwhelming sadness. RIP sweet girl.
