I've read some said he had a "creepy walk", and have trouble imagining what a "creepy walk" looks like.

Well, today I was passed by a University of Illinois Police SUV with K9 written on it's side going 90mph eastbound on I-74 near Ogden about 15 miles east of Urbana. Could have been an officer just going home at the end of their shift who lives way out. Or perhaps there's a search going on somewhere to the east of town that hasn't been publicized.

Is it normal to go 90mph on I74 or does the speed suggest great urgency to you?

No, they were looking at the outside cameras that face Lincoln ave

Well Hello OBSERVANT91! I am going to surmise by your input they were only verifying the fact that she NEVER made it to the North One apts....after getting into the vehicle. Interesting!! Maybe he told more than one version of his story. (Btw don't go away....because I want to know if "signing a lease" is so vital/time crucial that a person could delay a day if unable to make it. Do you have an extremely low vacancy factor?)
Your first post, and a zinger, too!!

Creepy walk, who knows? Someone once told me I was too upbeat and too positive and he thought it creepy. Maybe he had a bouncy walk then?

Or maybe something like this? Who knows :)

Traffic usually does 75-80, the cruiser looked to be going 85-90. Didn't seem too urgent, just seemed to want to get where they were going quickly. We did have a man from Danville just get caught burglarizing an apartment on Campus, could have been on some administrative errand to Danville and wanted to get it done quickly. Only police vehicle I saw. Had two or three more gone by then it would have gone well past a curiosity to me concluding something may be up. I've seen one U of I cop living 10 miles out in Mahomet so the simplest explanation is they were going home at the end of their shift to one of the smaller outlying communities.

When were they there? If recently I'm a little dismayed they didn't pull that footage sooner in the investigation. That would've been one of the routes to 74, he "took a wrong turn", did he drive right past one north?

This article makes me believe that he may have blabbed to two people:

"According to statements made by the government during today’s hearing, the government alleges that Christensen attended and walked in a vigil for the victim on June 29; has made statements about the characteristics of the ideal victim; that the victim fought and resisted; and, that he made a threat to another person to whom he made incriminating statements."

https://www.yahoo.com/amphtml/gma/u...due-court-160616909--abc-news-topstories.html

I don't think they would mention "another" in that context unless there were two of them? Also, I would imagine anything overheard in public is fair game with or without an attorney present.

I agree, the way *that* one is worded could imply an additional person. Or I guess it could imply a single person other than himself, being the same individual in both phrases.

I recently found myself reading news pieces from the 80's, inspired by my recent obsession with old Unsolved Mysteries episodes. Anyway...it struck me over and over how much more emphasis was placed on clarity and style of writing. Definitely not the case in modern journalism in general. I wish it was still like that.

Someone replied to my post claiming they did not believe this witness and believing B.C. fooled everyone but I don't buy it. Sure, lots of people would've missed this man was a creep but I bet some observant people a long the way caught on. To me, a creepy walk is one of those stiff, macho walks when someone is doing too much or trying too hard to prove their toughness. Reports say he worked out everyday and posters here have commented on the size of his arms. I bet this creepy walk is one of those certain men have that is meant to show how built they are, how strong they are, which is creepy as hell and indicative of someone who is dreadfully insecure and has bought into a toxic masculinity persona and dominance as way of life (pun intended).

RSBM - I see that a lot when bodybuilders strut in front of the mirrors at gym. I gotcha now.

I thought his walk was pretty creepy in the video of him at YZ's vigil. He walked like someone who was very self-conscious and wanted to appear dominant.

About the reported "sightings" of YY in Salem:

Since those people must have seen the said woman before they were aware of the missing scholar case (at least before they saw poster about YY), they probably didn't pay enough attention and didn't try to memorize the details of her clothing and backpack. When they saw the missing person posters with YY's picture, they recalled seeing someone similar to her. IMO saying "I am 100% confident" it was YY is an exaggeration.

Wording from an article is not concrete. Reporters screw up... they are human. We screw up in what we think is being stated... we are human.

I personally am going through a murder of a dear loved one and I read the news and honestly can say reporters at an alarming rate report incorrect facts ( I live in a large metro area) General public may not see it but family does, LE does... my advice, don't over analyze articles .

I understand, of course we're human. I mean the ability of a writer to make clear what they mean to say. Obviously, they're not responsible for every single person's understanding. Imo, there used to be a higher standard in this form of media, that's all. :-)

I was witness to a newsworthy death many years ago, the media was just terrible as far as accuracy and sensitivity.

I'm very very sorry for your loss.

I had a different impression. All the other classmates were in apparent joking mood, laughing/smiling, but BC never had a smile on his face, had a serious look throughout, even the ghostly "laughing" face at the end did not have a lighthearted feeling.
I think he looks weird and high-wired in pics and like many sociopaths, appears to mimic or approximate appropriate affect. But that isn't saying much since still photos and 3 seconds of video are all I've seen. His eyes make him appear calculating or scheming to me. As far as being a popular TA, that just means he was able to explain concepts well, was willing to help those who needed it, and wasn't a straight up d--k. Jmo.

Couple more questions for the legal eagles:

1) Are the audiotapes the police have thus far referenced definitely admissible in court, or will the defense dispute their admissibility?
2) Is it most likely the defense will ask for a change-of-venue for the trial and if so how far away might they go? …seems like all of central Illinois will have been saturated with news of this crime.

...and I'm still hoping someone can translate (from Spanish) whatever is happening toward the end of the Uzumaki YouTube story posted earlier.
And thanks to those who let me know they DID see this story on national news earlier on... I missed it, 'til I ran across it on the Web.

Nothing's every definitely admissible. A defense lawyer will always try to get it thrown out. There are various legal technicalities it could try like authencitiy, chain of custody, etc. which are probably failing arguments but any lawyer would try them. A defense lawyer could argue that the person he talked to could be required to testify to authenticate or lay a foundation for the tape so if they refuse or moved out of state or or were not subject to jurisdiction of a subpoena to appear or whatever, admitting those tapes could be questioned depending on what IL law says. Defense lawyer could argue the two parties were just acting out a fantasy and thus not being able to cross exam would hurt defendant and thus tapes should be thrown out.

Indeed, defense lawyer could also argue it's subject a privilege like spouse, reporter, priest, etc. and that could get it thrown out. Defense has the right to assert a conversation covered by the privilege, and person would not be able to testify. Whether that applies also to tape I am not sure - I think if privilege is involved here, defense will definitely assert an argument to get it thrown out, arguing that it would be too prejudicial to admit the tape if you can't cross exam the person he's talking to if they are covered by the privilege.

You can always get things thrown out under blanket evidence rule if prejudice outweighs probity. It's a balancing test. Here, probativeness is very high, and any argument on prejudice is low but you never know. Defense lawyer at least will try.

In all likelihood, you will get the person who talked on the tapes testifying about what he said as well as the tapes themselves.

They probably will ask for change of venue and get it, probably to Chicago area. Change of venue motions are pretty pointless nowadays because they just change it a few hundred miles (like in Lacey Peterson, Casey Anthony, Bill Cosby, etc.) so it's not like the other population did not hear of the case. But the intensity of passions may not be so much in another place I suppose. There are probably alot of people in Chicago who are going on with their lives that never even heard of this case or are not familiar with any of the parties. The defense lawyer being deputy mayor may also be problematic - defense may actually think that helps them. They would be the ones asking for change of venue.

It was after they had the car a s before the arrest. I was surprised they did not ask for footage at the beginning of the investigation. It was very difficult to make out makes/models of cars driving by because of distance, but I thought they would collect everything possible.

Alll excellent points. they have a great circumstantial case against bc even without the body. As long as there is even the tracest amount of her DNA in his car or apt he's toast.

I would think video of her getting into the car might trump lack of DNA. He has admitted she did to police.

Being a local and remembering the Ashley Gibson very well, the case in which she overdosed on drugs at a party and they dismembered her, and tossed her in the lake, she was last seen April 17th, and by April 18th they had already considered her “endangered” because the streets talked. When police held their press conference to address the public, they already had 3 people in custody for the crime, and no one knew it.

Point being, this is an ever more high profile case, involving the FBI in which more agents were involved with this case, than 80 counties combined. They have enough evidence to convict on kidnapping charges, they’re not actively posting to the public anymore about YZ missing or tips needed or search parties organized, because IMHO they don’t need to. I think BC recorded this crime as well. If the FBI needed tips on her whereabouts, it would be posted daily or every few days, with anyone leading to any information. Since BC arrest/confession the urgency for tips seems to have stopped from LE.

Remember this is on a federal level, it’s no longer the state of Illinois vs BC, it is the United States of America vs BC. If they didn’t feel confident about a conviction at least on kidnapping, they wouldn’t have made an arrest, remember FBI is the highest trained LE, he’s locked up and no threat, and more than likely never will be the rest of his life.

IMHO.

Wouldn't the complaint state that they had obtained video of him hurting her then? I think this is unlikely.

I hope you are right about this being and open and shut case.
