http://police.illinois.edu/search-updates/ There is an update from July 25th that says the university police are still searching. Just the university police? What's up with that if it's true? Why aren't they bringing in some search professionals and some Cadaver dogs and why isn't there anything on the news ever about it? It's all way to quiet!

I also am checking in on this thread, adding my prayers that Yingying will be found, and that her Family will find closure.

<modsnip>Missing person searches are done because family and community members do not know where a person is. If they knew where the person is, that person would not be considered missing. So, how does one go about such a daunting task? While searching for a missing person may seem overwhelming (looking for a needle in a haystack) searches are done systematically in the absence of a lead. What I mean by systematically is starting with a file mile radius of where the person was last seen and then expanding from there.

Here is an excerpt from a manual published by the Laura Recovery Center and written for family members (not police) who want to organize such searches,

3.1. Phase One - The First Six Hours

Start at the Beginning - The Site the Missing Child was Last Seen

o Verify that the missing child's family has called 911.

o Saturate the neighborhood and a five mile radius of the site last
seen with flyers immediately. Flyers are always appropriate, no
matter what the situation (Section ``on Flyers'').

o Determine the type of situation you are faced with: lost, runaway,
parental conflict, abduction, etc. Respond appropriately.

o Contact friends, teachers, clergy, and law enforcement with the
goal of establishing the child's character, emotional state, and,
if necessary, vouching for the child.

o The family of the missing child should be encouraged to seek
guidance from professional child-search organizations (Section ``on
Missing Child Organizations'').

o Ensure that the missing child's clothing is not disturbed or
removed from the site last seen or the home. It is absolutely
imperative that the scent be preserved for use by canine search
teams (Section ``on Special Search Methods and Tasks'').

o The missing child's room and belongings must be left undisturbed
until the child is recovered or the investigation is concluded.
This includes items that may have the child's fingerprints, and,
for DNA evidence, their hair and tooth brushes, and unwashed
undergarments.

o Preserve the site last seen for future investigation.

o Familiarize key personnel with the site last seen and surrounding
areas.

o Secure maps of the site last seen and immediate area as soon as
possible (Section ``on Mapping'').

o Take photographs of the site last seen and surrounding area. This
will help with briefings later on.

o Fly the area with a helicopter and take aerial photos. This view
will help in organizing the search, and will give you a feel for
the overall dynamics of the area.

o Mobilize the community. Contact the leadership of organizations
such as local Scout groups, PTO, Churches, Chamber of Commerce,
fraternal and professional groups, especially those that the
missing child's family may be associated with. These groups will be
a source for Recovery Center volunteers. All volunteers should be
at least 18 years old.

o Arrange for any specialized search teams and equipment as soon as
possible. These tools are most valuable in the first hours of the
search: dogs, helicopters, horses, etc.

o Commence search operations as soon as possible. Begin at the
beginning - the site last seen. Never assume that any area searched
prior to Recovery Center involvement has been properly and
thoroughly searched.

o Start a concentric search from site last seen. Divide the area
within a radius of 1.5 miles of the site last seen into sectors
that can be covered by 20 person teams in periods of 3-6 hours.

o Simultaneously, search major roads and highways leading to and from
the site last seen, with emphasis on those leading to remote
locations.

o Search all secondary thoroughfares such as waterways, railroad
tracks, jogging paths, etc.

o Consider establishing roadchecks on roads entering and leaving the
area. Coordinate with law enforcement.

o Identify any unusual traffic flow or dynamics in the area of the
site last seen that might yield clues. (Example: construction
sites, high traffic, migrant workers, etc.)

o Identify and document unusual individuals who become involved early
in the search effort. This monitoring will continue throughout the
recovery operation.

o Document all search activities for future reference. Keep all
records, no matter how insignificant they may appear to be, to give
to the Historian (Section ``on Historian'').

http://www.mysearchmanual.org/Manual.txt

http://www.vsrda.org/about-vsrda/faq/79-about/about-search-dogs/90-using-search-dogs

If one search dog team can only search one square miles per day, the same as 100 humans, then that would mean it would take 100 people 342 years to search 125,000 square miles. Or, it could all be searched in one day by 12,500,000 people. That's a lot of fliers to print and distribute.

You are absolutely correct that I am not familiar with the systematic way searches are conducted. <modsnip>

Did Brendt Christensen grow up in the area of the disappearance or in Illinois specifically? Was he a student who came to the area after living elsewhere for the bulk of his life? The reason I ask is because the dilemma of hiding a body can relate to where a person grew up and reading about / finding out about this sort of thing can influence how a person thinks. I noticed that I (originally from the northeast) went quickly and directly to woodsy areas on my Google Earth search. Whereas, people from Illinois, right away, spoke about crops and fields of corn and all the information that they had to bring to the discussion. The almost ideal nature of corn crops as a way to hide a body is something I would not have known or thought about. Most farms also have barns and outbuildings whether they are active farms or not, I would think. Christensen had plenty of time to scope the area out and choose a place where he would feel safe from interruption... an outbuilding would be pretty safe for him. If he was out of touch enough to actually take Yingying to his apartment and think he could get away with this, then he's living proof some one can be brilliant academically and flunk Common Sense 101.
Edited to say: I copied and pasted Brendt Christensen's name from an article and somehow the whole comment came out with this strange type. I changed the name size hoping the whole comment would also change... it didn't I'm not sure how that worked but, it's too late to retype the whole comment.

BC came to Illinois from Wisconsin maybe two years ago. I think the Madison area. He didn't live near campus but it is unlikely he knew much about the area. Students tend to stay close to home and campus.

You make some very good observations. I thought about outbuildings and even fields but those are all places where a body would be discovered sooner or later. The one thing there is is an abundance of creeks and drainage ditches, many of which are in remote rural areas where detection is less likely.

Your question about where he is from may be prophetic. He is from or familiar with an area of Wisconsin which is rural and wooded. One aspect of this case that has been puzzling is the FBI jurisdiction. Indiana is close but I doubt he spent much time there or even knew how close it was. However, if credit card or cellular records indicated he crossed state lines into Wisconsin, that could be the Feds justification for jurisdiction.

It is way too quiet but LE will have information they don't want leaked yet. They never reveal all they have been doing for obvious reasons. It is frustrating but I'll be here waiting for YY to be found and returned to her loving family.

I initially came here to Websleuths following the case of Corrie McKeague, a missing RAF (Royal Air Force) Gunner in the UK. The area he went missing from is local to me and things have been stalling whilst we've been waiting for 20 weeks whilst the LE are searching a Land Fill site. 20 weeks and nothing found, the search has stopped. It's 10 months since Corrie went missing and yet information coming out is limited because there's very little information known.

please let someone, somewhere, come forward with information on YY, let's bring her home to her grieving family.

Interstate ponds are another possibility. These are ponds that are dug for dirt to be used for overpass construction.

Do you by any chance recall whether a request was made by police for people to search their barns and sheds?
Does anybody remember?
I saw the amber alert and the taxi checks on the night she was reported missing, just 6 hrs after her abduction..
But I did not see anything specific after that..

If there was not a major search at beginning, how could LE possibly believe her dead from day 1?

Unless... something about her persona or the circumstances reflected too vividly upon another, possibly ongoing case..
I have no idea what that might be, but suggesting the case was in same or close geographical location?
Were any others reported missing at exact same time?
the week before.. is there a crime ring operating that involves possibly Asian girls only ?
Apologies for rambling.. now I'm trying to guess how the fBI thinks... I give up.(on the theory but not on YingYing coming home)

Did he want to torture her, kill her, keep her as a slave.. sell her.. use her in some other way?
We dont even know..but the publicity has died down so much, so fast , as though the story went down a drain, like a bathtub emptying..
I'm interested in finding out what he intended to do, what he actually did and where she is now..
Getting nowhere.. but I want to keep trying

It will probably pick up around August 28th when he has his pretrial hearing!

My own view continues to be that BC would want to dispose of the body quickly, which means NOT driving too far, nor dragging the body into woods or field, nor burial, nor anything else requiring much time, but more likely a quick unload from car trunk to a dumpster (he could drop the body into water from a bridge, but it would need to be weighted down, and risk being seen — being seen dropping something into a dumpster would be normal and not draw attention). With that said, the mind of a sociopath isn’t necessarily logical, so I won’t be too surprised with any outcome that we eventually learn!

I agree about getting rid of body quickly. I don't see him trying to dissolve her body.... :scared: But I guess the FBI know something we don't! I hope so!

JUSTICE for YINGYING! :rose:

Sorry :offtopic:

Is there a WS thread for Corrie McKeague? If so, could you post it!
and....

:welcome6: to WS!

...<snip>
I don't believe LE has ever publicly indicated they think her dead from day 1, only that she was certainly dead by June 29 when they recorded BC at the march. The billboards they were placing in Chicago, St Louis, and elsewhere early on may even indicate they thought she might still be alive and being moved at that point.
I suspect though IF she did make it through the weekend (after the Friday kidnapping), she was killed on Monday when police released the film of the black Astra picking her up (and suddenly BC knew he hadn't committed the perfect crime).

Between now and the next court appearance, will/can the LE interview BC (again)? I suppose his lawyer would tell him not to accept any interview or questioning?

Hopefully police will get a big break soon.

I just want to say that police routinely declare a person most likely deceased when they find a lot of blood but no body. In some instances, that also results in a murder charge. That doesn't seem to be the case here. So I think they are basing things on what the perp said he did.

 • #834
If at his apartment the police found evidence a murder happened there it would still be taped up and marked as a crime scene for evidence and kept that way until after the trial right?

I would definitely think so, and would love if some local would just drive by and see if it is.

If I understand the layout correctly, the entry to the apartment (B2) is indoors. Probably not visible via drive by. I do want to know though! I pretty much want to know ANYTHING new at this point...frustrated.

Not usually. Once police are satisfied, the property is returned to the owner.

There is a video on the hashtag on twitter allegedly taken outside of the apartment, but i was never sure they had the right apartment.
I googled the apt after I found that article regarding their financial statements and I noted the rents were around $600 and the article stated rent was $900.
Its online definitely with indoor pics showing only an internal space with a staircase in the middle, presumably to the lofted area..
I deleted all my messages recently and I dont know where exactly to locate it.

I'm not sure it was a ground floor apartment , however.

I have a question and some suggestions.
If LE discover proof she was murdered are they likely to charge him immediately, rather than hold to charge as an add-on at his next court appearance.

Re suggestions, BC , IMO lived online.

Its like searching for a needle in a haystack I know but can we still not sleuth for more online clues that will identify him?

I know the possibilities of what he did to her are too numerous to mention.
There are 2 categories and they centre around whether he wanted her dead or alive.. did he in fact , like the game suggested, dart her on the neck immediately she brought her second leg into the car and closed the door and did her seat fall back immediately?

Was it a fatal dose or just sedation?

Apart from imagining what he may have done to her, is it not highly likely he would have recorded it and distributed any footage, recordings immediately.. to his buddies in whatever level of hell they existed, dark web.

Would it not have been a badge of honor of some description?

Can we search? Is there a way we can work together, list various places and look?

I fully realise it would be a highly unpleasant journey.
I would not be afraid of it or squeamish about it, however.. but because its such a vast area, maybe divide?I'm not even sure such a discussion is appropriate for a public forum?
But I dont see another way to go, yet
