"Free garbage removal" in America is pretty standard for apt. complexes, and just means there isn't a separate charge for it (it's built into the rental price). But even though I think it possible he placed the body in a garbage dumpster, I'm doubtful he would've used one of those on his own premises.
Do we know if he rented one of the garages or storage units across the lake? I know it was discussed but I don't think we had anything definite.

I'm just giving an opinion, which is what this forum is for. I am not happy with constant jibes about non locals knowing nothing about America, Illinois, Chambana, cornfields, fill in the blanks. It's uncalled for. That's my opinion.
When I have not spent any time in a certain area, I generally appreciate those who have explaining landscape, culture, and anything else that may help explain the case. I appreciate everyone's input. Fleshing out what is true about an area or a case is important, though. Ideas are given, considered, questions asked, and some are answered by locals and by general research.

Hmmm. Free garbage removal.
That's an odd thing, IMO, to list on an apartment complex website. Unless you are renting a house, it's a given (in my experience) that you don't pay for trash pick up. Apartment complexes generally have very large bins, usually in the parking lot, that each resident dumps their trash into.

Just an aside about this mask. His former female students have got to be creeped out and all thinking they each dodged a bullet. I was a TA once, like this guy, and I had office hours with students. When I shared an office and it got crowded, we would sometimes do student meetings out of the office (still generally in public places on campus, of course). Every young woman who met with him has probably gone over those meetings again and again in her head.

What makes you think I haven't spent any time in America or had experience of it's culture?

I haven't said that. I haven't even [BOLD] thought[/BOLD] about it. I have simply tried to explain some things about Illinois, as I grew up here. It has all been directly related to the case. Specifically, I have tried to paint a picture of the landscape surrounding Champagne. If you don't find my information helpful, unless you find something incorrect about it, scroll and roll. It may be helpful to some who are not from the area.

I just wondered if there is any evidence indicating if violent video games desensitise players to real life situations. It has often been said that could be the case. E.g. the film Clockwork Orange was thought could encourage copycat attacks.

I saw a psychologist talking about this very subject the other day. It was a long discussion but to summarise he said that no matter how long for and how violent the games are , it will not make you cross over from non reality to reality i.e. Killing someone in a game world V killing someone in real life UNLESS that individual is already showing traits of/ is predisposed to certain behavioural indicators in the first instance and they are subsequently made all the more so when you add playing these games into the mix. He was as bold to say that watching and playing violent games and movies doesn't make you go out and kill ! It's only those people that already have something inside them that then lend them to commit such an horrific act. If this makes sense Shiresleuth.

I am interested in this question too. The only thing I could find was a review from a former tenant who describes the complex as having a "complete lack of security". That doesn't sound like cameras are present but it is only one report from an unhappy reviewer. https://www.apartmentratings.com/il/champaign/royse-and-brinkmeyer_217352417861820/

It does have a security system, actually. Its in the form of a buzz-in system. These may or may not have cctv.. some are just voice activated.
This is from a resident of X block, he teaches music in his apartment.

Even though the address is Springfield Avenue, Building X is actually off of Kenwood Road (approximately 500 feet south of the Springfield-Kenwood intersection). The building sits at a 45 degree angle to Kenwood Road and is marked with an X (literally! X marks the spot!). There is a buzz-in security system, so just push the button for X4 and I will buzz you in—but I will do my best to try and watch for you and meet you at the door!

That's fine. This is not the only thread I have experienced it on BTW.

Kitty has hit on something that has bothered me from the get go. His demeanor. Here we have a college educated middle class young guy and all of a sudden here he is...in prison for a despicable crime and every picture I've ever seen , he has on gangster style " thousand yard stare " face. This is not a street savvy **** for life type. How is he acting like this? Even when YY's mother was crying and screaming at him, he supposedly just sat there impassive. Never mind the fact I can't even fathom a person doing what he's probably done. I don't see how this whitebread punk has not cracked . His life is also probably done. And he sits like a stone? WTF?
He is receiving medication while in prison.
At his first hearing he informed the judge he was taking a pretty heavy tranquiliser 'for depression', and at the second hearing he was receiving an additional medication, also psyche.. Basically he's permanently stoned while possibly having innate zombie traits..this boy dont think talk or feel and its unlikely he ever will unless he escapes and does it again..
I keep wondering if he did it before...
I do not see him breaking/cracking or admitting.
He states he is not guilty and he , in all liklihood has no feelings of guilt or assumes any responsibility for his actions. he is akin to a snake though.. cunning...

So if someone already likes inflicting pain or harm on animals (for example) or likes to bully or dominate, the videos could increase that predilection. In BC's case he enjoyed Fetlife and video games so one more step only, to graduate to murder really. It became obsessional for him it seems. I do wonder about the possibility of other crimes.

That is proven not to be in multiple studies and is considered a myth and scapegoat

That is an interesting article. Only results of one study of children between 8 and 9 is mentioned, and even that study saw a "slight" increase in depression and anxiety levels which is a bit worrying. The slew of studies after Columbine that are mentioned also could be of interest too.

If they dont find the body, I wonder what evidence they have that can prove murder. Everything I can think of can be explained away as circumstantial. What are the chances he gets off in court?

well when feds are running a case, they are here, almost no public information is issued.
We are working blind..we have no idea what info they have obtained or what type of resources they have put into investigation..
I doubt he will be acquitted.
he lied already.
Thats provable.
rest of us must wait and see.. could be a very long wait with changed defence team not yet fully briefed..
But what a shame if her family will be forced to return to China without their beloved child's body or even a part of it.

It sure looks as though LE could be doing a helluva lot more.

I agree. I'd like to know if they looked at his car's "black box" so they might have some idea what direction he drove in and for what length of time so they could narrow down a search zone as they did in the Sherin Mathews case. You don't have to have a fancy car for there to be at least some info recorded.

I also feel like as an Illinois resident I just haven't heard as much about the case as I should have. I didn't see reporting on evidence collected or any actual details on searches (just general statements about groups of students searching).

Without a body, without enough blood to assume she is dead what could they use to charge with murder. The only thing I can imagine is they have a video of him commuting the act. Otherwise im scratching my head to think they have anything other than kidnapping.

Alot of circumstantial evidence that people have gotten around on less

Looks like Saturns have had them since 1999 so hopefully the Feds will know that. If I can find something out like that then they will certainly be on it. MOO.

I am almost certain they have checked into this if it can yield any clues. Makes me wonder if thats even any help.

If all they have is what the public has been told of course I'd agree they have a weak case, but I assume they have much, much more (likely forensic and video evidence, as well as corroborating testimony), including convincing information explaining why the body can't be found.
