No details of the alleged 2013 sexual assault by Christensen were provided other than the initials of the victim, “M.D.” The alleged assault occurred the year Christensen was admitted to the university’s highly competitive physics graduate program.

In making the announcement, prosecutors alleged for the first time that Brendt Christensen “choked and sexually assaulted” another victim in 2013 in central Illinois. He also has claimed “additional victims” and expressed a “desire to be known as a killer,” according to prosecutors.

Earlier this month, it was revealed prosecutors would seek the death penalty against Billy Arnold, an alleged gang member accused of killing two rivals in Michigan. In December, Sessions greenlighted pursuit of the death penalty against Jarvis Wayne Madison, a Florida man who allegedly kidnapped and killed his estranged wife.

I have a feeling there are very many more victims out there.. too afraid to come forward at the time..

I wonder whether there is any way to sleuth them.

This is why I think the claims of additional victims are separate and distinct from the sexual assault-choking victim listed in the Notice. The other serious act of violence is the one they have confirmed (M.D.) The additional victims are probably what they are looking into and trying to determine if there are any truth to his claims, and who they are if there are others. Even if they haven't found out yet if there are others, they can still use his statements to an informant/TEB about there being others as evidence of "further dangerousness of the defendant" as a non-statutory aggravating factor that argues in favor of the death penalty.

IF there are more, we will hear about them eventually. Especially if they uncover that he has killed someone else.

Could be..
I was more thinking of priors.. the choking event occurred in his first year in college, he was married the year before, 2012..

It's possible his cruelty/methodology became more 'sophisticated' as the year and his tastes became more 'diffuse', if not depraved..

I just feel sure there are others, many others.. he had so much access.. so many opportunities, in a position of trust- teaching.

They unsealed the document in docket entry #32, the letter sent to the judge that the defense team was basing their efforts to get him to recuse himself.

It is the most plain and innocuous thing. I can't believe they were trying to get him to recuse over this. No wonder he called their motion frivolous.....

Not much new, other than the FBI spokesman stating that the investigation is still ongoing, and that they are still looking for her.

This is the saddest thing, in relation to her family
"They understood because it's been explained to them about why there's the delay, but they're still concerned that this much time can pass," Beckett said Wednesday. "They're obviously looking for closure, but the kind of closure they want they may not be able to get in the court system, which is finding their daughter or at least finding her remains."

Now this..

I have to wonder if they are really looking for her still. They have vast resources available to them..
I'm here in Ireland and I have gone through every path of every sewerway in that town and I find myself wondering if they ever even bothered doing that.?

Until there's some resolution, Beckett said, "the family's frustrations continue, and you can expect them to continue."

Kittythehare, from where BC lived, you drive about a quarter mile West, North or South and you are in rural farm country. While the FBI has more resources than local PD, that is tantamount to looking for a needle in a stack of needles. Most of this is private property that can't just be walked by PD or locals for that matter. So we are all at the mercy of a farmer or a farmhand walking the property and making a random Discovery unfortunately.

"We're still looking for her"... that statement from authorities makes it sound like they're looking for her body (which would lead me back to thinking about landfills, and perhaps lagoons, which can take inordinately long to search), but it may also mean only that they are looking for any bone fragments, teeth, or the like, that they think might be recoverable. That they still have never requested any public assistance in the search makes me believe they are only searching places the public has no safe or sanctioned access to (just my take).

The last person to be sentenced to death in a federal courtroom in Illinois was Dr. Ronald Mikos, who was convicted in 2005 in Chicago of murdering a former patient to keep her from testifying against him in a Medicare fraud trial.

Mikos, 69, whose appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court was denied nearly a decade ago, is still awaiting execution in federal prison in Terre Haute, Ind., federal records show.

I, too, suspect there are other victims. As to sleuthing them, we'll have to check the Websleuths TOS.

ETA: Just checked TOS. If I am understanding them correctly, we cannot sleuth any of BC's victim(s).

URBANA — It's been 300 days since visiting Chinese scholar Yingying Zhang was last seen entering a vehicle at the corner of Goodwin and Clark streets, but the memorial there still occasionally receives fresh flowers.
"There's someone on our file that calls periodically to take flowers over there for her," said Phyllis Valentine, a manager at Campus Florist. "It's a tragic thing that happened, but it's nice that her family can see that people still care."
Ms. Zhang came to the University of Illinois last April to study agriculture, and while on her way to sign a lease for a new apartment June 9, she entered a Saturn Astra around 2 p.m.
Three weeks later, former UI physics grad student Brendt Christensen was arrested and has been charged with kidnapping resulting in Ms. Zhang's death, though her body hasn't been found.
He remains in custody at the Livingston County Jail in Pontiac and faces the death penalty at his trial scheduled to begin almost exactly a year from now, with jury selection beginning April 3, 2019, and the trial starting April 9.
Steve Beckett, the lawyer for Ms. Zhang's family, said he last spoke with them after the trial was pushed back from February to next April.
"They understood because it's been explained to them about why there's the delay, but they're still concerned that this much time can pass," Beckett said Wednesday. "They're obviously looking for closure, but the kind of closure they want they may not be able to get in the court system, which is finding their daughter or at least finding her remains."

While Ms. Zhang is presumed dead by the FBI, the investigation is still considered active.
"It's still ongoing. We're still looking for her," said FBI spokesman Brad Ware. "There's really not much more I can say."
"We are still investigating with the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office, but we're not able to say much else as this is still very much an active investigation and a pending court case," said Pat Wade, spokesman for the UI police.
Until there's some resolution, Beckett said, "the family's frustrations continue, and you can expect them to continue."

Nope. Had not seen this reported or discussed anywhere.

Just seems WAAAAAY too far away for it to be YY -unless BC had help from someone.

I'm sure the DNA testing will be compared with YY's to see if there is a match, but I doubt it will be her.

EDIT: Also, should point out that there is a significant Asian population in NY-NJ, so much more likely it is someone local.

Saw this yesterday and wanted to mention that this is approximately the 1 year anniversary of Yingying arriving in the US. Early in this event I saw a press release by the university that stated she arrived on campus around April 27.

Remains found in Litchfield IL last week. Litchfield is only 2 hours from Champaign and right off the main interstate needed to get there. They do not yet know age or sex of the remains but do NOT believe them to be a missing woman local to the dump site. No mention of Yingying and no more info since their discovery. Could it be her?
