IChristensen Tapes: "So I chopped her head off and I said that was the end of it." - Brendt Christensen, in his own words, describing how he killed Yingying on a secret FBI recording played just now in the courtroom. @foxillinois @wics_abc20N

I just can’t wrap my head around how casual he can be about taking somebody else’s life, I really don’t understand it. It shows an incredible lack of self awareness for himself, not to realise that someone else wouldn’t want to hear him gushing about what he did.

Usually in a murder trial, I get annoyed at people who unfairly attack the defence because of course, they have a job to do and need to give their client the best defence possible, so a mistrial can never be claimed but this logic has been severely tested by BC’s defence team. I just can’t wrap my head around trying to get the case thrown out for prejudicing the jury, after admitting in the opening statement that BC is responsible for the victim’s death. I can’t even begin to comprehend it, it’s just so bizarre.

BC: "She was stronger than any victim I've ever had." Later... "Yingying is the only person that has produced evidence that lead back to me. Number 13. I've been at this since I was 19." (AaronEades)

  1. hristensen: "I got the bat and I hit her on the head as hard as I could and it broke her head open. At that point I didn't know if she was dead or not so I had a knife and I stabbed her in the neck and she grabbed for it." @WCIA3

Christensen: "I chopped her head off." Then he compared himself to Ted Bundy, saying he may be the most successful serial killer in 30 years. @WCIA3

"I am apparently very good at this, he said." Then made it clear to TB that #YingyingZhang would never be found, that she was "gone". Also discussed potential difficulties in dealing with larger victims because there's "extra [stuff] to get rid of"
Wonder what that meant to him?

Wow.
Sounds like he talked to the GF about doing a murder even before he did it. She may or may not have taken him seriously at the time.

Since LE are able to get phone and text records I have to wonder if this text was used to confront the GF and help convince her she needs to cooperate with LE against him.

If divulged he wanted to kidnap, and rape a victim to his wife and/or gf and they never contacted LE or FBI, then what kind of sick games are they involved in also? It is NOT normal to plan a kidnapping and think this is normal behavior.

Really do need a comprehensive analysis of the tone, energy, all of it-3D to figger how much of this is credible.
10 minutes strangulation with his big hands around her petite neck?
The full vehemence of his strength on the bat that broke her cranium?
'I had a knife'
A lot of forensics were blood stains from the bedroom.. unless that came under heading of 'I did stuff to her'.
You sure did, with at least one knife... he omitted bits of the sequence(s) it appears?
Did he also have an axe for the alleged decapitation?

I understand your thoughts. I've wondered what could be done for these people as well.

I have a friend who is a psychologist, and she told me she would never take someone like BC as a patient. One might think BC is beyond saving. I just don't know.

JMVHO.

Would you want him as your patient? no way...he would stalk the psychologist! Some people belong in institutions/behind bars for a reason.

Fading into nothingness is the default for most people,” Christensen told his girlfriend some time before Zhang’s disappearance, according to Miller. “Fading into nothingness is not an option. I’d rather destroy humanity than let that happen.”
The above from the transcript.
This piece discusses death penalty.

Former Illinois Gov. George Ryan, who took the first step toward abolishing the state’s death penalty by placing a moratorium on executions in Illinois in 2000, a year after the state’s last execution, said the federal decision to hold a death penalty trial in Illinois subverted the will of the majority of the residents.

He said he opposes the death penalty on the grounds it’s impossible to ensure innocent people will never be put to death. (!!!)
Why Brendt Christensen Can be Sentenced to Death in a State That Abolished the Death Penalty

and this is when the GF should have RAN for the hills or planned slowly on leaving him. This not sane.

I’m still wondering about pleading not guilty but saying he’s guilty. Is this the new defense lawyer trick? Will we start seeing more of this tactic? Is this the new normal? This loophole must be closed.

Why are we having this trial, after admitted guilt? This article may explain that. We have to go through the verdict phase to get to the possible death penalty option. The prosecution was likely not willing to entertain a plea deal, so all BC can hope for is life w/o parole.

Why did Brendt Christensen admit he killed Chinese scholar Zhang at U. of I.? It might save his life.

Admitting that a defendant is guilty from the outset of a trial is a rare strategy. Here's a closer look at the approach and what Christensen's defense team might be trying to accomplish: ......------

Christensen's trial has two phases: The first, the one they're in now, is the verdict phase where jurors are hearing evidence about whether he committed the crime. If they convict him, the death penalty phase would follow.

In the penalty phase, prosecutors would present reasons why Christensen deserves to die. They likely would highlight how they believe Zhang was tortured. The defense would then present reasons why his life should be spared,

So, why not just plead guilty?
Had Christensen entered a guilty plea, a 12-person jury would still have been convened to decide whether he should or shouldn't be executed. Higher courts have determined that only juries, not judges, should determine if aggravating factors justify the death penalty.

By pleading not guilty, the defense forced the two-phase process — the verdict and death penalty phases. That bought them more time to make the case that Christensen's life should be spared,
