Maybe we could do that here? Everybody post what they are feeding their pet!!

As far as I know, Purina Beneful dry food is still NOT RECALLED. Still feeding it to my 1 yr old lab and he is thriving.

We tried it last night with my lab, she seemed to like it. It has Wheat flour in it, not gluten.
Nutro Max Ultra Dry food is what we usually feed her and it is supposed to be okay too.

I just read a disturbing editorial/article in our Sunday paper. It was in the Pet Section. Unfortunately, my husband threw out the paper before I had a chance to paste the article over here.

The article essentially stated that this issue is much bigger than has been acknowledged. In JUST TWO STATES alone, there have been a reported 50 plus pet deaths. I wonder how many pets have actually died because of this?

The other day, I read that China said it was going to look into the tainted wheat/gluten issue; then yesterday, I read it stated it wasn't aware of any problem.

Something smells rotten in the State of Denmark, and I don't think it's just the dog food...

This is horrible! Somehow I don't believe the recall only affected 1% of all dog food. Were not getting the whole truth...JMO.

1% my foot!!! This company makes everything from Alpo to Iams to Science Diet to Pounce!! This is a lot more than 1%. We're not being told the entire story, no way!

I went to the grocery store last night (Food Lion) to buy dog food for my puppy. I was so confused. First, I thought well if the food has been recalled it won't be on the shelf. So then I started reading the ingredients. He loves Beneful (I think because it seems more like he's eating leftovers/people food) but I noticed it had wheat gluten in it. I had two cans of Pedigree at home and I read the ingredients in THAT and it has wheat gluten. I'm so confused. The little Ceasar tubs don't have wheat gluten but have you seen how small they are and at .79 each it's a little expensive when the little guy would probably eat three at a time. I bought four or five and then a can of Alpo (which didn't list wheat gluten in the ingredients). I have the Pedigree dry food but since he's had the wet Beneful he passes over the dry food. It's been much easier to find cat food without wheat gluten.

I actually wake up during the night stressing over if I've fed him something that's going to harm him.

I'm switching to Diamond Brand. Good for them and not expensive as most high end foods. And NO wheat gluten!

My understanding is that dogs & cats do not need to eat wheat (or corn or soy) at all. Why is it even in the food? I recommend Canidae (or Felidea).

But you know almost all of them have one of those in them. I guess it's like a filler. Hamburger helper for dogs and cats.

Gabby - don't get upset with yourself - people are throwing away this food at an alarming rate, and it wasn't until you posted that it went to a landfill that it even dawned on me, either. :-(

Well, I've had it now. One of the foods that I've switched to is made by Menu Foods! Wellness and Old Mother Hubbard. I'm just furious. Even though they state that they are not made at the affected plants and that their quality control is in place, I still don't trust it. It makes me made because I really had to dig to find this info, because for weeks their website merely said that they weren't affected by the recall. Just because they aren't affected by the recall doesn't mean their food is not made by Menu. I just feel so bad now. Especially because I've been researching this and I feel duped. Here's a list of pet foods and their manufacturer.

I feel your frustration KrisNine.. I really do... Even though I'm feeding my girls home made foods, I still would like to toss in a bit of dry food and I like giving them little treats to chomp on.. I give them Mother Hubbard treats. The flavored little bones... They seem ok but I still get hesitant to buy them anything because of all this..

Thank you to those that posted the info on the most recent recalls. I somehow missed those.

I had been feeding my cats Nutro, but stopped as soon as this recall started. I tossed the pouches, since they were part of the first recall. I suppose I should have returned them to the store, but I didn't. Since the cans weren't part of the recall, I kept feeding them that for a week or so, but decided I don't really trust anything with wheat gluten in it, so I stopped feeding the cans. Now I see Nutro is recalling the cans (voluntarily).

I did by can and dry Innova, and they seem to like that. I recently picked up dry and can Blue Spa Select. Neither contain wheat gluten or by-products.

I also feed my cats Hill's T/D mixed with their dry food. The M/D was recalled, but not the T/D. I don't know what to do about this. The vet said it's ok to feed them this, but the way this thing is going, I am not so sure.

It's just a nightmare. I went to the little pet shop by my work and purchased Merrick dry for Josie. It's made by Merrick, not Menu. Josie has been eating their canned food, mixed with the Natural Balance. The cats are on Natural Balance.

Wheat and corn act as a preservative to give it a longer shelf life. Soy acts as a kind of protein. Honestly if you ask me it shouldnt be in any of them. Corn can kill horses, certainly it cant be good for dogs. You would be paying more for the foods if it didnt contain corn or wheat and they probably feel consumers wouldnt want to do this.
