AVON, Ind. — An Indiana man is accused of beating his 2-month-old son after the child “became fussy” in the middle of the night and allegedly pulled his nose ring, court documents state.

Aaron Scott Evans, 19, of Avon, was arrested on Monday and charged with one count of battery to a child resulting in serious bodily injury and neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, according to Hendricks County Circuit Court online records.

The boy was transferred to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, WXIN-TVreported. Doctors told police that the child had rib fractures, leg fractures, a subdural hemorrhage and many bruises, according to the television station.

According to police, Evans allegedly said that he was suffering from a migraine on Monday and that the baby was “being fussy,” WTHR reported. Evans also allegedly said he wanted to “inflict pain back” on his son after the baby pulled his nose ring, WXIN reported, citing court documents.

According to an arrest report, Evans allegedly admitted to intentionally dropping the baby out of his arms onto the floor, using his hands to place pressure on the boy’s chest, punching him in the leg and swaddling the infant tightly in a blanket, the television station reported.

According to investigators, the victim’s mother said that Evans had “anger issues” and was easily frustrated, WXIN reported.

Evans remains in the Hendricks County Jail. His first appearance in court was on Tuesday, and there will be a pretrial conference on June 5, online court records show.

If convicted of the charges, Evans would face between three and 15 years in prison, according to WXIN.

I wish I could pull his nose ring and then drop him on the floor.

I like how the article says the baby "allegedly" pulled his nose ring. As if the baby might be facing charges.

This man almost killed that little baby. Seems like the sentencing structure is quite liberal, but I hope he gets the maximum.

Most of all, I hope that wee baby gets better and suffers no longterm consequences. Parental rights should be terminated.

IMO.

Here’s an idea…don’t wear a nose ring around a small child who will naturally be inclined to try to grab it. MOO may he rot.

Sickening.
Was wondering, where was mom during this time ?
At work ?
If not, she must have heard the baby crying ?
A lot of questions.
Hoping he gets the max and is kept away from the baby for the full 15 years.
M00.

I took the "allegedly" to mean they didn't believe it. Probably not but I don't believe it either. I think he just abused this poor thing because he is a great bid piece of...

I suppose it was said that the baby "allegedly" pulled his nose ring because two month old babies generally are not yet at the developmental stage in which they grab and pull little things. The baby would have had to have been within five inches from his nose for even a swipe at the nose ring. Would a young guy with a migraine hold a crying baby that close? I doubt there is any truth to the nose ring pull story.

Not specific to little one but relevant:
Sixty Hoosier children died due to abuse or neglect in 2021, according to the Indiana Department of Child Services, which stated over half of the victims were age 3 or younger.

The IDCS found 15 of the 60 children had previously been identified as victims of abuse or neglect. Death by weapon – including a closed fist – was the most common cause of death and 53 of the alleged perpetrators, over 80%, were biological parents.

Poor baby, probably going to have learning delays, possible brain damage for life. So sad. A lot of babies like this end up in foster care, because a young mom just isn't up to caring for a special needs baby who is going to have ongoing medical care and therapy appointments.

And no, I don't think that a baby that young grabbed a nose ring and pulled it. A toddler, yes. Two month old? Nope. Not buying it.

I hope this unfit example of humanity goes away for a long time.

***MAN GETS 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR HURTING BABY***

On October 7, 2024, Aaron Scott Evans was sentenced to 10 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 3 Felony, with the sentencing left open to the discretion of the Judge.

On April 3, 2023, Avon Police Department received a call from the Department of Child Services regarding a two-month-old baby with numerous suspicious visible injuries. Avon detectives responded to St. Vincent Emergency Room to speak with medical staff. Medical staff told the DCS Family Case Manager that the father of the child, identified as Aaron Evans, brought the child to the emergency room. Mr. Evans had left before officers arrived. An interview was conducted of the child’s mother, who stated Aaron had anger issues and got frustrated with the child easily. On a few occasions, she had witnessed Aaron interacting with the child in an inappropriate way. Later that day, detectives interviewed Mr. Aaron Evans, who appeared reluctant to share everything that had happened to the child. He stated the first time he hurt the child was when the child was 10-days-old. On the date of this offense, Aaron admitted to intentionally dropping the child out of his arms onto the floor, swaddling the child tightly in a blanket, among other forms of abuse.
