Yeah that was quite a judicial screed…. poor guy, he must be under so much pressure
I honestly also believe he may have just known he didn’t have the fortitude to preside over such a high profile case, regardless of fear for personal safety. And I admire being able to put aside hubris for the greater good. All moo.

Profilers don't think this was his first "rodeo" because someone doesn't start murdering young girls at the age of 45. But yet I don't think there are any cases of missing girls or unsolved murders of young girls in the Delphi area or Mexico, INdiana area (where his parents live and he lived briefly before he married) or Greenwood Indiana (where he also lived briefly before he got married. I know LE are probably checking this out and it will be interesting to see if they find something.
I don't think we can say for certain that no one commits their first murder at 45 years old, like everything there will be exceptions to the rule. Most offenders also escalate, so it may be that was the case for him and there are things/events in his background that we are not aware of yet but that it culminated on that day on the bridge.

You are kinder than me. There is a lot of prestige, power, and money in being a judge. Even in a small town. Maybe even especially in a small town? For someone to be fine with the title and prestige but not the hard work rubs me the wrong way. Yes this would have been a very challenging case but to do a good job managing all of the parties and ensuring the defendant got a fair trial and justice was served would have been very meaningful and important work.

If you are fortunate enough to have a career in law, it's a privilege. You don't have to do this work, you get to do this work. So I don't know, maybe I am being unfairly critical. I just see people like assistant county attorneys and public defenders do this work for very low pay and no prestige everyday without complaining. So shrug?

Judge Gull seems to have much more experience. See her bio below…

From her Bio: "Judge Gull has gained statewide and national renown as an innovator in areas including jury management, restorative justice and the use of technology in the courts."

Maybe she will allow streaming of the trial?

I am an educator. So I know about dedication with very little monetary compensation.

That said, I would never vilify a teacher who realized his/her own limitations wrt ability to execute their duties. It’s always better to recuse ones self from service than to stay and perform poorly -especially when the stakes are so high.

Moo.

I am glad he recused himself, and for that I will give him kudos.

That said, Diener’s office has had years to consider and prepare for what the days would look like following an arrest. The families of Libby and Abby have put themselves out there in the public eye for 5.5 years. There were many unkind comments in social media towards them along the way, and I’m willing to bet some psychos contacted them. And the families are just regular folks, not trained in law enforcement or justice. They handled all of that while coming to terms with coping with the loss of their own children.

Again, I am glad Diener recognized he was in over his head and got out fast. But it brings me to have even more respect for what Libby and Abby’s families have been through.

Quoting my post

Thought he started there 2018?
Or did he get licensed pharmacy technician 2018 and was cashier there before?

Jmo

He worked at CVS prior to getting his technician’s license.

It’s fairly common for retail pharmacy technicians to start out working elsewhere in a store before becoming a tech … either they cashier up front somewhere or cashier for the pharmacy before they get trained to work assisting with prescriptions.

I think it's much more benign. Not much the FBI could provide anymore except helping to follow up on some tips. This is very much a local/state case with FBI providing support for things beyond ISP/CC's ability. Sounds like maybe once the Marshals stepped in with their additional capabilities, FBI stepped back.
Would the FBI be following up on the KK network?

I can see a Prosecutor offering a deal for information.

I can’t see it unless the information is strong enough and can be validated in some other way other than testimony alone. KAK wouldn’t stand a chance testifying as a prosecution witness, who would believe a proven liar? Furthermore it could risk a not guilty verdict by giving the defence an opportunity to create doubt by suggesting he provided false information to pin the murders on RA in order to deflect from his own guilt.
