May be coincidence, but it doesn’t look good. It looks like receipt of RMA’s letter set something into motion regarding KAK and that provision of counsel for RMA was delayed to make that decision.

KAK has representation. The sooner RMA is represented, the better.

ETA: Also curious why Diener is listed as judge on the motion to appoint public defender. Shouldn’t that be the new, specially appointed judge? Does anyone know why not?

I'm not sure of what the current Judge will require of RA but typically a hearing is held to determine a defendant's financial position before a public defense attorney is appointed. Of course we will not hear if one is going to be held, but if it is will no doubt be remote.

I never really fixated on the multiple devices aspect. I'm a techie, so I have found myself working with apps in multiple devices before, for various reasons. Especially if they were in the same house. I would probably chalk that up to the process of switching phones more than fixating on a possible co-conspirator. I still have a real tough time imagining RA working with KK in any fashion. Maybe that's a side-effect of living in a more urban area, where generally your interactions with others are within your social structures. Maybe in a small town environment there's more interplay between vastly different people.

I'm really curious to see if Logan's name bubbles back up to the surface as this thing unfolds. I could imagine a scenario where the reason the PC was sealed was because at the last minute they discovered a RA/RL connection, and releasing prematurely that would open up a poopstorm of criticism. Am I crazy for thinking that?

I too thought that it was exactly that. That is, until I read KAK's videotaped statement. LE thinks they are 2 different people logging in and they know more than I do about this so I defer to them. So perhaps there could be a connection between RA and KAK.

MOO If I were RA's wife, I would be horrified and embarrassed to show my face in public. I don't believe she was involved in any way, but I understand her need to quit her job and move houses. This has to be utterly devastating for her and her daughter. Their whole sense of reality has just been smashed to bits!
When something like this happens, you become flooded with tiny realizations. Moments in time that didn't make sense come back to you with a vengeance, triggering feelings of betrayal, intense sorrow, and self-doubt. I hope they get professional help to see them through this trying time. MOO

I completely agree and I also don't see her being involved. Professional help is so important and often partners, wives and family are too busy with the practicalities of getting themselves to some form of normality as soon as possible when this happens. There are so many emotions, particularly if you have a child. Does he have the right to demand access/contact when incarcerated ? Not sure how it works in the US.
I agree about the moments in time, and the analysis of those, and everything else around her new family unit.
My thoughts are with her and of course, the families of Libby and Abby

Sounded desperate to me, which makes sense given that he is facing murder charges and possibly the death penalty. He may not know how to make his request and address the court.

If his house is joint property with his wife, I don't think they can force him to sell his house. But I do think they would be able to allocate half of the value of the house as his asset, and determine his eligibility for a public defender based on that asset, as well as any other assets he may have.

The general vibe online is that she must have recognised him.
By the general sub-humans that emerge on foot of each heinous crime.
Just her.
Not the guys in the pub,, not his workmates, not people who saw him every day.
I personally doubt that she knew.

If the online vitriol is anything to go by there is every chance she is in considerable danger.

The letter sounds as though somebody advised him, either via a relative that visits or is in contact some other way.

Maybe someone sought legal advice for him.

Extremely sad to hear that RA’s wife had to leave her job and home for her own safety. That’s so fundamentally wrong.

Interesting note here is that it was sent from White County jail. Postmark shows 1 November. Wasn't filed until 9 November. Wonder what the delay was.

Could simply be USPS which caused the delay. A lot of places are having a hard time keeping up with the mail due to Covid. I can speak for my own local situation, and have heard of other areas having the same problem. For me, ~60K population in this county. Sent a BD card to someone 6 miles away. Took 9 days to get. I could have walked it there faster! Also, the receiver of the card, and others in her small town, are getting week long delays in their mail. They know what they should receive for the day (emailed daily digest) but it takes up to a week to actually have it put in their mailbox. Per the local newspaper they are very short staffed and having problems hiring. I'm thinking this situation can happen anywhere across the US.

That's how I'm feeling about it also so far. There is too much unknown to make any educated guesses and wild speculation doesn't help anyone.

Same here, Md to Ok about 10 days, if it gets there. I use UPS for all deliveries there now, and it gets there.

It looks like there was just some sort of administrative issue with RA being moved to White County, then out of White County. You can see at the bottom of the envelope that a new barcode was generated on 11/04...

1 - Looks like maybe it was sent out on 11/1 by the prison to some sort of distribution center in Indianapolis (hence the 1 November Indianapolis postmark)
2- then it was labeled as return to sender since he was no longer in White County Jail anymore. ("return to sender" stamps over the "mailed from White County Jail" stamps)
3- Issue was corrected on 11/04, and processed again (hence the new 11/04 barcode).
4- Was received by the court on 11/07, filed on 11/09.

Side note: The new barcode from 11/04 does match the zip code of the Carroll County courthouse when decoded (see attached).

Ah, I see. Yeah, I think there will be a lot of smoke and mirrors and attempting to bring up irrelevant figures... but I don't think it will really matter when it comes down to it. The prosecutor is/was very smart to go after felony murder versus intentional because it takes the wind out of a lot of those types of arguments.

The prosecution is flawed, not going the defendant their rights in some way.

Delivered Thursday 11/3 in afternoon or Friday 11/4 and no one “received it” until Monday 11/7. Not filed in court till Wednesday 11/9.
