I'm going to attempt a reply here and hope I don't confuse people :)

In another case here on WS, some on this thread may be aware of it, there was an item that needed to be tested but it was so small, that the process would be "consumptive". Now in that case, there is just SO much other evidence, it's just "one more piece," and still valuable if it belonged to the victim. The monster is in custody. Now, what if LE have all kinds of bits of DNA from the CS but some of it would be consumed with testing. Without a perp in custody, running that DNA is risky as a defensive attorney has the right to ask to be present during said test because it destroys the sample and therefore cannot be tested independently. If they have solid DNA and they have a suspect, surely even if the killer has no priors, they would have collected cast off items by now. JMT.
That sounds a lot like the Patti Adkins case, although as of a year ago the suspect was still running around loose.

Should be in a different thread.

Yes.

JMO....but I believe they have a very strong suspicion as to who committed the crime.

I think what is preventing an arrest is a false alibi and the need for an ironclad case to prosecute with complete success.

I believe this case is going to be bigger than we could have ever imagined when it goes to trial.

In my mind, he wasn't hanging and wandering, at least in the sense of looking for somebody to kill. I think he was either driving by and saw them dropped off, or he was hiking, or there for other reasons I can't even imagine. It's impossible to tell. But I've been to my same small town park a hundred times and honestly never saw the same people more than once. Parks tend to draw a wide variety of people, for a wide variety of reasons. And, I will easily drive 15-20 miles to go to a park. If you live in a rural area, you have to, and it's no big deal. So "local" to me, is a large area.

BG very well could be one of the many suspects people have suggested, but he could also be somebody else entirely. Personally, I think it was random. But, I'm open to listening to the idea they were targeted. I have to be open to that because I don't know what really happened.
That is about where I believe the case is at this point. IF this was someone known to the girls it was a VERY loose connection or so I believe. That is, someone they saw a few times at the library, grocery store or local fast food place. IOW, who they may have recognized his face but didn't know his name. In over 2 years I believe just about everyone with a known connection to Abigail and Liberty has been interviewed more than once. My problem with my own theory there is Liberty was obviously suspicious enough to turn on the record function on her phone and I can't help but believe she or Abigail would have said a name if one of them knew it. At the very least, one of them might have said something to the effect, "You're the guy we saw at McDonalds this morning." or "You're the guy that was in the stands at our volleyball game last week." If any of those statements were on the recording, I can't help but believe that with all the other evidence LE would have this guy. Yeah, I lean toward it being random, but I'm open to looking at other theories as well.

I also tend to believe this guy has committed other such crimes, but those crimes didn't involve murder and he wasn't arrested. But again, playing devil's advocate to my own theory no other such victim has come forward stating that he assaulted them or committed some other such crime based on either of the sketches or the photos. Of course, one could say the person or their parents, if a child, are scared to come forward.

I think ISP's statement that he is local and possibly hiding in plain sight is just a strong theory and nothing more. Probably based on the fact that someone who did this showed a very good knowledge of the area around the trail and the bridge.

  • KG recently corrected a quote she mentioned in a Renner interview regarding kids that were at the trails that day. She said she knew there were 10-20 kids at the trails that day , but she didn’t see anyone when she dropped the girls off . Did she ever mention how she knew this ? Were kids posting pics of themselves on SM that day ?
  • I wonder if that’s why Libby and Abby wanted to go to the trails at the spur of the moment. Did they see SC pics from other older kids ? Was something happening at the trails that day that Abby and Libby wanted to see ?If there were so many kids at the trails that day why aren’t there more witnesses. JMO

I think the actual correction was '10-20 PEOPLE at the trail that day ' ?

Apologies if incorrect

I think it's our nature to suspect specific individuals in these cases. It makes it easier to try to fit the pieces together. But IMO, without being open to other possibilities, we may completely overlook the real killer because we're focused so hard on someone else.

Do I have suspects in mind? Sure. Is it possible it's someone still unknown to all of us? Sure. As @mtnlites pointed out, we don't have all the pertinent information that LE does. And maybe with all the information LE possesses, even they don't have a suspect yet that fits. JMO

Yeah, I agree. There are a few dudes out there who I have felt pretty strongly about at some point in time. The thing is, though, we have such limited information that we could probably find 2 dozen different men, hold them up to the crime, and make a case for every one of them. We are working with a terrifically large scope here. There is a 19 yo guy (not even the one whose name has been traded around) and a 46 yo guy that I know and when held up to the sketch and video still either one could be a match. That's crazy. Is this someone with a history of pedophilia? We don't know if they were sexually assaulted. Someone with a history of sexual assault against females in general? A recent parolee locked up for attempted kidnapping? A totally clear record, but rumblings of domestic violence through the grapevine? A sexual deviant? A tweaker? Without knowing how they were killed and what the OG plan was, it's all hard to say for sure.

I am wide open right now. I think that is a good thing. If LE gets too much tunnel vision then mistakes can be made. Check out the pressure to find a perp that LE was under for the Jessica Dishon case and how THAT turned out. The poor dude was charged and taken to trial while the real killer ran around wreaking more havoc.

Sometimes I think of this case as a puzzle that can't be completed by the public because there are too many missing pieces. We can make up those pieces, but we probably shouldn't get too attached to them because the odds of you being right are just as strong as the person next to you.

I wonder if it was truly a “spur of the moment” decision. They could have been discussing it between themselves and with other friends, and just mentioned it in a way that appeared to be “spur of the moment.”

When I was a teenager we would come up with a plan and then wait to ask permission until an opportune time. Like after we finished some chores and thought m would be in a good mood and say yes.

MOO they may not have recognized him at first, out of context and dressed like a different kind of person.
MOO They were in shock and probably not sure if it was real yet.

So are you thinking Casey Anthony type circus?

I think depending on who the suspect turns out to be, yes, it could be.

Good question, no I don’t- and as I’ve gone back to search for one I think I could be mistaken. (too late to edit my post).

I remembered reading something to that affect during the discussion on here regarding the image on her twitter account that is available to see online. But mods cut off the discussion and removed some posts, and now I can’t find anything. I also could have just misunderstood. All I can find is a post from you that only mentions her having multiple SM accounts but not multiple Twitter accounts.

Sorry all- good example of how rumors are perpetuated if we don’t have links
The "blondmoment"-tag I found very mature somehow ... I say it appreciatively.
