Not claiming the disappearances are similar in any way.

I am suggesting LE's comments about the tragic nature of the death led to speculation about graphic, violent acts of serial killers that ended up being completely untrue.

And I am suggesting that LE didn't warn the public regularly because they suspected it was a crime committed by an amateur under the influence.

Both of these could be true here, in my humble opinion.

I was surprised to see how close and large some of the farms and livestock operations are, to the site where the bodies were recovered. It seems that these farmers and their workers would be moving about at all hours, and especially in the pre-dawn hours. Have you had any local news reports of unusual activity, or movement seen?

While we value your opinion and experience, we also have to be careful here at WS to use references from reputable news sources when discussing actual "events." It keeps gossip and rumor from getting out-of-hand or being offensive. Are there local reports that we might not see in the web, say a small local radio station or independent local paper? TIA!

Our local paper is called the Carroll County Comet... it isn't much... a weekly paper, and they only have shared what most other news has shared.

I have to agree IMO that this is a Serial killer.. It's obvious that this is an experienced killer that knows what he is doing.. IMO I believe that he studied the area and terrain and was well prepared to commit this crime.. IMHO I cant help but think that there must have been some kind of sexual offense committed to the girls for the simple fact that LE is rounding up any sex offenders in the area for questioning ?? IMO I don't think that LE has any clue as to who this perp is and IMO they know their dealing with a SK?? Maybe IM totally off and it is a local ??

Yes, I have thought about this day and night... And wondered how someone could get away with such a crime in these circumstances, and still hasn't been caught. And seriel killer is what comes to mind. A Sk is known to think and act like a narcissist. Confident, above anyone else, full of themselves, calm and collective. I def feel at this point he's a sk... I have felt this way all along esPecially afteR looking at the missing children's website and looking at girls age range 13_17 just from indiana and once I saw that I'm convinced there a sk and he's made his mark now in delphi. I hope similarities end there too. I was really only pointing out that LE didn't warn residents more bc they didn't suspect a SK...and that COD ended up being less graphic/violent/outrageous than people speculated after police comments.

You are right he was later charged with sexual contact.

Ironically, his connection to Chelsea was discovered through DNA after he stole tattoo equipment.

Because they are still waiting for the findings from the evidence they seized from his place/property. It looks like we still have some weeks to wait.

It looks different uptown now. Equipment that was on the street is gone and I only two or three police cars parked at the old REMC building. Much different from what it was a week ago with large trucks and satellite dishes on trailers and cars and truck from many different LE agencies. What does this tell us?

Okay, I have never thought too seriously about RL as a suspect (at least not working alone) because we have all been working with the idea that these might have been particularly violent and graphic crimes (as LE said, they'd never forget it...like nightmares etc.)

But your comment actually made me think of a scenario.

My grandfather, in his elderly years, became more paranoid about his safety. He once came out with a gun, fearing he might need to defend himself, then discovered the visitor approaching him was only a family member. (Yes. Scary.)

What if RL or some other neighbors had been burglarized before and reported trespassers in his barn, what if he or another neighbor were becoming a bit paranoid about their vulnerability as elderly people as well? What if (hypothetical scenario) he or another neighbor had been drinking a little, got scared, and mistakenly shot a girl thinking it was a more threatening person?

Not saying this is what happened, just saying, if police viewed that on the tape it would still be the stuff of nightmares in my opinion. Seeing or hearing two girls gunned down would be something I'd never forget.

Except that would leave the explanation of BG (and the girls for that matter) in that scenario on property owned by CSX and not individuals. BG has to be explained and fit any scenario since BG has been determined by LE to be a part of this.

O/T I would kindly ask that you could in some general and gentle way, let the people in your community know that there are many of us out here who are grieving for the girls and your whole town. Many of us have been touched deeply, by the fact that two lively and independent young lives were ended so soon and so abruptly. Our hearts are heavy for you all.

This is the first I've heard that the area is a hangout for local kids. Was the entire school district out on 13 Feb or just Abby and Libby's school?

There are two schools in the county - delphi and carroll, carroll had school that day. They were making up a day missed from the school holding a funeral for the flora girls that had died in the fire in december.

I place my bet it's a SK.. I'm convinced.

Just one or two? One closer to them in hiding? BG couldn't know if anyone else would come up the bridge behind him. One SK would have to have steel cojones and everything go right to pull it off for two teens. We don't know if the killer tried to hide them where they were found with branches, etc.

I am asking this because I have the opportunity to ask one of the detectives that worked on the case. Not that he has given me the "you can only ask one question" Jeanie in a bottle thing, but I wanted to approach him with one question. Something he may or may not answer, but it's worth a shot right?

Have you identified a main suspect and if so, what percent certain are you that this is the perpetrator?

I agree it doesn't explain everything. It only works if BG ends up being a passerby and not being the killer. Or if BG was a friend or relative of RL who RL sent out to scare the kids for trespassing etc.

I am not suggesting this as a stronger hypothesis than the others. It just occurred to me that a vulnerable elderly person who had previously been burglarized might overreact...especially if under the influence.

I also have seen speculation around other killings spiral to include the exceptional possibilities...serial killers, gangs, sex traffickers, terrorism and so on...only to have it end up being something simpler and more local and--frankly, more likely--in the end.

That said, two victims leaves me wide open to the possibility this was a bait and kill type of scenario.

Just trying to explore all options even the mundane ones.

Along these lines, in the Chelsea Bruck case here in Michigan, investigators didn't release the cause of death either but they also weren't constantly warning residents of ongoing danger.

In the end, it turned out, they had recovered DNA and were waiting on a match to turn up. It eventually did. The perp was a 20-something who claimed Bruck died during rough sex and that he got scared and hid her body. The police did not say whether they believe his story, of course, but they didn't seem to think the perp was a serial killer. They seem to have suspected all along they were looking for an individual who may not have a criminal record but who made a series of bad choices under the influence (it occurred after a huge party where substances were rampant), imho.

This may not turn out the same way but it's possible.

Another similarity in Chelsea's case was that LE made comments about the terrible nature of her COD which led locals to speculate all kinds of things from mutilation to gangs of sex traffickers branding the body. But it seems, in retrospect, the officers were just recounting the terrible nature of finding an innocent young person's body abandoned in the wilderness (cause of death was thought to be strangulation or blunt force trauma--possibly accidental).

Just re: COD, the ME said she was killed by blunt force trauma with a broken jaw, chipped teeth, broken eye sockets and a broken nose, which sounds both terrible and not accidental IMO. That being said I can see your point...but I still feel IMO something happened that really upset the officers. I would venture that at least the ISP and FBI are not easily shaken even when it's concerning children. I could always be wrong though of course. Moo

Yes, I saw what you were trying to say. They did allude to much more. I know you weren't saying the crimes had similarities. Just LEs verbiage can be off from what we imagine at times.

The question I would ask is: Were the girls were killed elsewhere and placed in the location they were found?

By the way, I will make the observation that the media has never once asked about this and they usually do ask about it. If it were to be the case where they were killed elsewhere and LE has been holding this back they have done a great disservice to this case and they are hindering their own investigation.
