I am just cracking up, I cant believe I posted that hatchet video back on BOP's post like on page 56 ...after reading all the hatchet posts! and hatchet snark..

Haha..well at least you can see an example.

I will say I believe DN is a suspect and far more than any person of interest.

I think they need more evidence, and I also think there is big potential for other crimes, for instance this missing young woman they are looking for in CO. She could have been victimized by DN. They haven't found her and Im sure the proximity of her disappearance isn't lost on LE.

wouldn't they like to make sure she is not murdered and lying somewhere under a pile of leaves.

maybe they need to keep Mr. Nations on ice in Colorado.

the fact is he's is under suspicion of murdering TW. ...he's already thought of as a possible murderer, so I do think he could be the killer of Abby and Libby. I wish his wife would take him down and ask for immunity ( as long as she didn't do anything serious that would make her an accomplice).

come on KN..do what's right. MOO

I agree on all of this! Thank you!

I have nothing to add - except this is so sad!

Will justice ever be served for these beautiful girls?

I absolutely love LE in Florida releasing anything they can to try to catch a "serial killer".

Meanwhile, in Indiana, we have NOTHING new.

You were alarmed by it? You know that there are also businesses that allow people to come in and practice shooting guns don't you?

BTW I am watching one of those shows as we speak - Homestead Rescue.

Mrs Stele is not watching it, haha.

Well I just watched the new Zodiac killer show -Discovery? - and it was way better than I thought it was going to be. First show was last night. Two detectives are doing the investigation leg work and a team has programmed a computer bank to decode the killer's cypher. Fascinating and so far, so good.

Margarita, I asked the question because I'm puzzled why it matters what type of hatchet he had. Yes a hatchet has been mentioned in his arrest but what does delving into the precise hatchet owned prove? It hasn't been linked to any murders at this point. There has to be some basis for sleuthing it don't you think?

Hi BOP, that's the whole point. It can really matter! Potentially tying a POI to a weapon used? That's huge and the bottom line! Now can we as armchair sleuths directly impact the case? I don't know as we don't have unreleased case details re: COD, etc, BUT I do know one thing, you tie a perp to a weapon and well, let's just say they're going to have so explaining to do.

DN has been accused of threatening people on a trail with a hatchet.

Sleuthing weapons of interest could be huge...we've seen TK had an amazon wishlist, etc ...I'm super tired on not clear right now but wanted to respond briefly that here are many questions re: these hatchets mentioned. Walmart, Costco, Home Depot etc come up in various cases, in this case potentially Walmart, I will try to respond more thoroubly tomorrow...we have all for months analyzed the bridge pic...we are now directly examining the hatchet angle as related to covers, holders, etc...

Let's say hypothetically we can identify where a certain rare item is sold...half asleep...:offtobed:

Who are we to suddenly draw the line as far as forensic discussion? If it were guns we'd be talking about guns. (We can talk about that too. I've taken so much crap for saying that's a gun outline in his coat, was very glad to see AG outline that in the KN interview.)

Sorry to say - IN has nothing re BG
So, our community still lives in fear.

I watched it as well. What did you think of RS ? Is there an active thread for this topic? TIA

I'm so sorry. What a terrible way to have to feel. Our homes and neighborhoods should be a place we feel safe and secure.

If I may ask, is this the community consensus or do some still have hope BG has been caught?

If BG is also the murderer of the Iowa cousins, and the murderer of the Delphi girls, then I would suspect he is no longer in the area. If he did all of these murders then he moves on. He could be anywhere really! Scary thought!

LE has said they have not been able to clear a number of people, and jmo DN is simply one more. They are not going to say more about him than they have, imo. And the pending resignation basically says it all anyway. Not sure how much clearer they can make it, really. Jmo

If it takes 16 months to match someone's DNA, it partly explains why DN hasnt been excluded or included yet and why Ives is going now IMO.

It looks good but seeing the Zodiac with the hood up scares the heck out of me. I might watch with my hand raised just in case. Thank you for reviewing it.

If only we knew the answers to this question and his name.

I thought it was interesting that the police are STILL so tight-lipped about the case...kinda like LE in this case...and look what that reporter had uncovered. Incredible circumstances re: RS and the circumstantial evidence so far. I just want to see if they crack that code! lol

I have been reading the last few pages of discussion and have a few thoughts to add:

1. On the poll...I don’t know whether DN could be involved. I don’t rule it out. But it seems apparent they don’t have enough evidence to link him to the crime for now.

But I can’t tell you how many times cases I have followed that are eventually solved end up unearthing evidence that convicts one of the original POIs.

2. On hatchets, one POI the Delphi investigators apparently went to see (DN) has been charged with another hatchet related offense. This is why the conversation steered this way. People here didn’t fabricate the possibility of a hatchet.

The people discussing it being sharpened were analyzing whether or not the weapon would still match the wounds (if used at all) because sharpening would change the appearance/shape. This is valid because positively identifying the weapon used would be helpful to securing a conviction.

I also do see the relevance of discussing the likelihood that *if* a hatchet was used, the person using it would likely be an outdoorsman, camper, or other hobbyist who would have some pre-existing use and experience with hatchets.

And exploring types of hatchets would help us further consider what items could be hidden under clothing and which might not.

3. All that said, I would love to see some additional ideas or information revealed that would help us explore alternatives to the DN hatchet theories. If I ever feel like the conversation here is getting stuck on something, I feel the best way to change it isn’t to criticize it but to interject a new idea for discussion.

I would like to hear more specifics about the additional video the police released to family. Perhaps that would stir some new possibilities. But it sounds like we only have generic info right now.

I have to say that I always thought a hatchet and an ax were interchangeable.

I guess they aren’t.

If you were living rough wouldn’t you want an ax for chopping wood.. and maybe a hatchet for other duties. You don’t chop wood with an ax do you?

So why two hatchets and I assume no ax?

I think the question you’re raising, which is interesting, is what reasons would a person have for owning two hatchets.

In my experience, there are plenty of people living in rural areas, who have out buildings full of old tools like hatchets, axes, shovels, sledge hammers, what have you. So one possibility is DN’s lifestyle involves manual labor where items like this were periodically used.

The fact that he carried the hatchet with him indicates to me that he was either an outdoorsman who had use for these things while camping or hunting at various sites OR because he wasn’t allowed to own a gun, this was one of his only weapons (whether for perceived self defense or nefarious purposes).

Anytime someone threatens another human being with a hatchet, I think it reveals something about their mental state and it is right to question what they might be capable of. But I am guessing this weapon or DNA doesn’t match closely enough with the Delphi incident without further evidence. If it did, I am sure the retiring officials would be pursuing closure before they departed. They have said as much.

So either we need someone to uncover further evidence linking DN to the scene or we need to examine other possibilities. I know it’s challenging because we don’t have all the information to develop strong or alternative theories. The fact that everyone here presses on through thread after thread about these girls says something wonderful about the amount of good in the world though. Many, many strangers care and are being thoughtful and vigilant in finding justice for them. In the midst of this tragedy, I take hope in that.
