Misty, I believe there are a number of clues that LE has given and been missed by many.
I agree, clues are often overlooked if they don't fit the prevailing theory of the moment. Which brings me to something I was thinking about....
Just a general observation, as a broad group here we'd make terrible investigators in real life. Rather than examining the crime scene and the surroundings and allowing the evidence to lead to a possible and probable scenario and then a suspect, we pick a likely candidate (ie RL and DN) and force information about that person to fit the crime.
The reason of course is becuase we don't have a whole lot of information. My observation is not intended to be critical whatsoever, just more of a collective summary of discussions over the past months.
