Delphi Murders | The Clues Left Behind

Teen girls, Abigail Williams and Liberty German, were going on a walk in 2017 when they were tragically killed. The viral case became known as the "Delphi Murders." #RichardAllen was arrested and accused of the killings. However, new court filings from the defense claim this was a ritual killing done by Odinists, not Allen. #CourtTV examines the evidence of the crime scene and breaks down the clues left behind.

DELPHI, Ind. (Court TV) – A retired Indiana police officer cited in court documents by defense attorneys for the man charged in the Delphi murders is calling into question how his statements have been characterized by attorneys, suggesting the defense is “twisting facts.”

DELPHI — A week after the defense team for accused Delphi murder suspect Richard Allen requested that cameras be allowed in the courtroom for any future court proceedings, Carroll County Prosecutor Nick McLeland objected to that request, adding that he believes cameras will just create a “circus atmosphere.” [...]

“Defense counsel continues to use inflammatory language in pleadings, including statements that are simply not true,” McLeland wrote in a court document filed Monday through the Carroll County Circuit Court. “There is no reason to think they will not continue to use supercilious language in court, designed as soundbites for recording on the national stage.”

[...] The prosecution also argued that adding cameras to the courtroom might also hinder the “dignity of the trial.” [...]

A hearing for Judge Frances Gull to rule on these motions has not yet been set.

Prosecutor says theory that 2 slain Indiana teens died in ritual sacrifice is made for social media

The prosecutor overseeing the case against a northern Indiana man charged in the 2017 killings of two teenage girls has dismissed as “fanciful” a recent court filing by the man’s attorneys contending the girls actually died as part of a ritual sacrifice. The Carroll County prosecutor commented in a document filed Monday that the theory is a “fanciful defense for social media to devour.” It comes a week after Richard Allen’s attorneys argued that 13-year-old Abigail Williams and 14-year-old Liberty German were not killed by him, but by members of a pagan Norse religion and white nationalist group. Allen is charged with two counts of murder in the Delphi teens' killings. He has pleaded not guilty.

In Delphi, Allen's defense files Additional Franks Notice - naming the Purdue professor and clarifying what he told ISP/CC about the sticks at the scene.

Defense filing alleges Dr. Jeffrey Turco told ISP's Jerry Holman that pattern of sticks "it was a given" that someone was trying to replicate a Germanic runic script.

Further, Turco consulted another professor, one from Harvard, who agreed. Turco, according to defense, couldn't interpret the runes/sticks but that the configurations were pretty clearly runic….

and that he "could certainly imagine that this was somebody's idea that when you do human sacrifice you carve runes,”

#JusticeforAbbyandLibby

For those who inquired, the FBI was invited to assist in the Delphi matter and they prepared an affidavit showing probable cause that #RonLogan killed #Abby and #Libby and even went to far as to say they believe there was probable cause that he committed the crimes. (See attached) There was a rift between the FBI and local officials working the case and that was the end of the FBI. Recall, the Burea has no jurisdiction but can assist in local matters if there is a request. This rift also resulted in the release of the second sketch that looks nothing like Logan, nothing like #RichardAllen and nothing like the first sketch. The case has always been a hot mess. I think the case will hinge on RA's confessions. The ballistics information will help but will be highly contested. As for the Pagen, Odinist, Ritualistic sacrifice Card being played, not buying it. I believe their bodies were moved a bit and leaned up against trees to obscure them from being found and branches were laid on top of them. Could the positioning of a branch have looked like Antlers, possibly. The killer likely wiped his bloody hand on the tree making a crude F. The Bigger question is, where is the DNA analysis from the tree? Meaning, was any of the bark analyzed for touch DNA of the killer?

DELPHI, Ind. — Attorneys for Richard Allen, the suspect in the Delphi killings of Abby Williams and Libby German, filed new court documents with additional claims police are hiding evidence from the judge. They say the new information supports defense claims that Odinists were behind the killings.

The defense points to Carroll County Sheriff Tony Liggett swearing under oath on Aug. 8, 2023 that a Purdue University professor did not believe sticks on the bodies were Odinist symbols. The defense also claims Prosecutor Nick McLeland allegedly told the defense the prosecution was unable to identify the Purdue professor as of Sept. 6, 2023.

Allen’s defense team claimed lead investigators involved in the Delphi murder investigation consulted with a Purdue professor – before February 2018 – concerning what resembled, according to them, pagan symbols possibly Odinist in nature that were left behind at the crime scene.

Interesting statement in State's response to defense discovery deadline. State agrees with deadline request and says they have turned everything over and have no exculpatory evidence about Allen. But also suggest they have not "reopened" any investigation. #Delphi 1/2

On 9/18/23 I asked ISP's Supt. Carter if the case was open and active and he replied: "Its's a very open investigation. And active."

CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. – Attorneys for Delphi murder suspect Richard Allen are asking the court to deny the prosecution access to their client’s mental health and medical records.

In September, Carroll County Prosecutor Nick McLeland subpoenaed Allen’s health records from his time in captivity. The subpoena sought the results of examinations and evaluations that Allen has undergone at Westville Correctional Facility since Nov. 3, 2022. [...]

Special Judge Fran Gull of Allen County is overseeing the case. Allen is scheduled to go on trial in January 2024.

Indiana prosecutors in the high-profile Delphi murders case have responded to a series of polemical allegations put forth by the attorneys representing Richard Allen, claiming that the defense team has repeatedly made “unfounded accusations supported by absolutely no proof” in previous court filings. Responding to a motion seeking for Allen to be immediately transferred to another detention facility, prosecutors refuted “colorful and dramatic” allegations that Allen has been mistreated by guards because they are members of a “pagan cult,” and characterized the claim that Allen is entitled to privacy when his wife visits as “astonishing.”

#Delphi hearing on 10/19/23 in Allen County "likely" to be televised. Multiple requests already received. Allen is one of the Indiana counties that routinely allows cameras.

#Delphi: According to Allen Superior Court Executive John McGauley, 10/31 hearing not "officially" set yet, he expects 10/19 hearing to clear up what 10/31 is for, and it could include Franks hearing.

#Delphi Judge Gull sets hearing for Allen on 10/19/23 - not in Delphi, this is for Allen Superior Court. Second hearing scheduled for 10/31/23.

Delphi murder suspect Richard Allen will appear in court next week for a newly scheduled hearing.

But unlike other court appearances, this one will be held at the Allen County Courthouse.

Allen, facing two counts of murder in the 2017 deaths of Abby Williams and Libby German, has been ordered to appear for a status hearing at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19.

Attorneys for the defense and prosecution have been directed to “arrange their schedules” in order to attend the hearing, which is set for Allen Superior Court. The trial itself will take place in Carroll County. It’s scheduled for January.

According to the court, the purpose of the proceeding is to discuss an upcoming Oct. 31 hearing and “other matters which have recently arisen.”
