DELPHI, Ind. — An investigation by “The Murder Sheet” podcast, certain elements of which have been confirmed by FOX59, indicates an alleged leak of sensitive crime scene evidence by Richard Allen’s defense team that could derail the early 2024 trial of the man accused of killing two young girls in Delphi nearly seven years ago.

This past Thursday, Special Judge Fran Gull of Allen County issued an order for a hearing on October 19 in her Fort Wayne courtroom, “to discuss the upcoming hearing on October 31, 2023, and other matters which have recently arisen.”

Those “other matters” most likely include the revelation that a handful of Delphi crime scene evidence items have been circulated among the social media community that has focused on the murders of Abby Williams and Libby German near the Monon High Bridge on February 13, 2017.

It was just a year ago that Richard Allen was arrested and charged with those killings.

Allen’s attorneys, Andrew Baldwin of Franklin and Bradley Rozzi of Logansport, first earned the ire of Judge Gull last December when, just weeks after their appointments, the team released a three-page press release blasting the case against their client.

In response, Judge Gull issued a gag order on all parties, assuring that Allen’s guilt or innocence would be debated in a Carroll County courtroom and not in the media.

According to the defense team, the information was leaked by people unrelated to the defense team, and that Baldwin trusted a friend with his office space but was ultimately betrayed.

The judge is allowing cameras into the courtroom on Thursday by way of pool cameras.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Delphi murders suspect Richard Allen did not appear in an Allen County Courthouse for a hearing as expected. Allen County Judge Frances Gull announced Allen's defense attorneys quit the high profile murder case. Court records said the original purpose of the hearing “is to discuss the up coming hearing on October 31, 2023 and other matters which have recently arisen.” Allen is charged with two counts of murder in the 2017 homicides of Abigail Williams, 13, and Liberty German, 14, whose bodies were found near a creek not far from the Monon High Bridge, where they were last seen alive. Although a Snapchat video taken from German’s phone showed a suspect approaching the girls before their death and police would work to identify the so-called "Bridge Guy," years would pass before police arrested a suspect. Around this time last year, Allen, 50, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of Williams and German. Thursday's status hearing will be an opportunity for Allen County Judge Frances Gull to check in with parties involved in the case. That includes representatives for the State of Indiana, who will be tasked with proving beyond a reasonable doubt that the now-51-year-old Allen ended the lives of two innocent teenagers back in 2017. It also includes Allen’s defense team, public defenders Anthony Rozzi and Andrew Baldwin, who will likewise have to prove their client did not kill the teens. Prosecutors and police have argued Allen murdered the teens after they found a bullet, recovered near one of the girls’ bodies, had been cycled through a gun investigators later found at his home. The Carroll County prosecutor, who first brought the double-murder charges against Allen last year, also cited witness testimonies that placed Allen near the Monon High Bridge the day the teens disappeared. Meanwhile, Allen’s attorneys have pointed the finger at Odinists - a white-supremacist cult they allege have ties running deep through the Westville Correctional Facility where Allen is now housed - as the ones responsible for ritualistically sacrificing the girls in 2017. In the year since Allen's arrest, the public has seen large swaths of sensitive information made public for the first time. Those possible insights into what might have happened to Williams and German were sealed for years, and made known to the public largely through court filings and motions related to Allen’s case over the last year.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A longtime defense attorney filed a motion on behalf of Richard Allen'sown defense attorney on Thursday, arguing he should be allowed to remain counsel to the Delphi murders suspect in a new document submitted just hours before a scheduled status hearing in Fort Wayne on Thursday.

Public defenders Andrew Baldwin and Bradley Rozzi are tasked with defending Allen against the charges he faces in the 2017 murders of Abigail Williams, 13, and Liberty German, 14.

The filing comes two days after Indiana State Police investigated a leak of sensitive evidence and documents related to the case that allegedly became public at the hands of an employee on Baldwin's team.

Heck yes #RichardAllen's defense team did Not want to withdraw. This was made clear by the fact they offered remedies to the court. This was a case of them having no other choice but to withdraw leaving RA without counsel and in solitary confinement at a Maximim Security Prison yet convicted of no crime... His attorneys were some of the best in state. Who will RA be left with? Will he survive Maximum Security Confinement with, I am sure now, little hope? Did you see his wife? She was in tears. She realizes the gravity of the situation. You don't just snap you fingers and appoint counel. The attorney must be qualified and capable of taking the case based on his court obligations. Maybe a heavy hitter will step in? This case weighs heavy on me. The evidence is not strong and the allegations of police incompetence and possible LE coverup is concerning.

As I previously stated, this was no surprise at all to Judge Gull. This was an ultimatum made based on the release of those photos. The below document clearly is asking for the court's consideration not to, in practicality, force them to withdraw and offers other sanctions. I hope Judge Gull reconsiders for the sake of justice.
