CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - The Monon High Bridge in Delphi has been a local hiking attraction for decades. But now, many know it as the place where the last pictures of murdered teens Liberty German and Abigail Williams were taken. Tuesday marks the one year anniversary of when the girls went missing.

News 18 uncovers what safety improvements are being made to the bridge and trails a year later.
"We all feel a bit responsible for what happened to the girls," said Delphi Mayor Shane Evans. "We ask ourselves if there's more that we could do to keep them safe."
But how was the community to know that the beautiful Delphi trails and the Historic Monon High Bridge would one day lead to such a heinous crime.

“"It’s a very tough situation to live with, and we have a very small, tight-knit community and to think that this person is still right there in our own back yard is overwhelmingly horrible,” said Abby’s mother, Anna Williams.

She knows her daughter would not have gone quietly.

“If she was going to go down the hill, it would have had to been, like, super-forcing her to go down the hill,” she said.

“She would have tried to fight back or something if he didn’t.”"

"Abby’s mother’s says there are days she’d “rather just not be here”.

“Every day it’s brand new and it hurts just as bad as the day it happened,” she told Dr Phil.

Her greatest fear is in ten years. she still won’t know who killed her daughter."

THESE best friends gossiped together, giggled together, grew together. Then they were murdered together. A year on, police still don’t know who killed them.

"The task force is now in the middle of adding lighting, cameras, informational kiosks and Wi-Fi. Mayor Evans said there will be cameras at each entry point. But, there won't be any along the trails.

"We can't put a security camera at every hundred feet," said Evans. "So what we have tried to do and the recommendation from the trail task force was, to put those security cameras at the entrance to the trails. So that we know who is coming in and going out."

"To set up a system that would retrieve and record information from the cameras requires a much different array of technology, much more cost," said McCain. "And it isn't something that we felt like even for trail walkers to think that they're being spied on all of the time."

Delphi Investigation: Why state police say Libby & Abby's case isn't cold
What we know about the murders of Libby & Abby
PARIS LEWBEL, KATIE COX

https://www.theindychannel.com/long...y-state-police-say-libby-abbys-case-isnt-cold

"DELPHI, Ind. -- “It’s not going to be a cold case, it’s not.”

Although a year has passed since the murders of Delphi teens Liberty German and Abigail Williams, Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter says he will not let the case go cold before their killer is found.

“I’ve said all along, as long as I’m in this role and breathing, we’re not leaving the City of Delphi in Carroll County, Indiana, we’re just not,” said Carter. “And if we get to the point where we have exhausted the leads that we currently have in the queue then we’re going to start all over again.”"

"The Johnson County warrant, issued in September, originally only allowed extradition from other counties in the State of Indiana. The warrant was updated by the Johnson County prosecutor on January 10 to allow extradition from anywhere in the United States, according to records obtained by Call 6 Investigates.

Nations also has an outstanding warrant out of Bartholomew County for indecent exposure.

Nations was extradited back to Indiana, but police are still not calling him a suspect and have not made any public attempt to connect him further to the crime."

“Libby's grandfather, Mike Patty, 52, told DailyMail.com: 'It doesn't seem like a year. Maybe it's because we've been working so hard to try to catch this guy, that's where our focus is.

'When I wake up in the morning, it's the first thing I think of. We are continually working in any way we can to spread this around. We are staying focused until we get this guy caught.'

Indiana police hope anniversary of teens' deaths spurs tips

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/article199791054.html

"State Police Superintendent Doug Carter planned a Tuesday news conference at the wooded, roadside site where 14-year-old Liberty German and 13-year-old Abigail Williams began their hike to reiterate authorities' commitment to solving the crime and renew their plea for tips.

State Police Sgt. Kim Riley said police hope to reach people who might have "solid tips" about the crime but haven't passed those onto investigators for some reason.

"We want people to look at themselves and say, 'This is something that I've not told — something I've heard or seen — and it's time for me to pass that on,'" Riley said Tuesday. "We need to solve this case, to get this person off the street.""

Delphi Murders: Georgia investigators, FBI asked to review Libby & Abby's murders
ISP: The Delphi case won't go cold before solved
https://www.theindychannel.com/news...ators-fbi-asked-to-review-libby-abbys-murders

"Call 6 Investigates has learned that Delphi investigators have asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigations and agents from other FBI field offices to look over the case with a fresh set of eyes in and offer recommendations in the hopes of finding the missing puzzle piece that will help them solve the crimes.

Those recommendations and conclusions are not being released to the public, but the*expertise of outside departments is meant to assist in making sure that no stone is left unturned in the search for Libby and Abby's killer."
