Here's some info on ODD and conduct disorder in children:
Oppositional defiant disorder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/oppositional-defiant-disorder/DS00630/DSECTION=causes

Conduct disorder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

http://www.aboutourkids.org/families/disorders_treatments/az_disorder_guide/conduct_disorder/causes

This is some serious stuff. It's basically, IMO, sociopathy in kids (ODD and "conduct disorder"). They just don't want to label kids as psychopaths.

What happened to this little girl?

I agree that it's serious and don't mean to minimize the diagnosis, but I wonder how hard it is to get a diagnosis?? With the exception of a few things listed, I think all 9yos are those things at times. Heck, my 10yo still exhibits some of those issues. Lol

I'm not questioning the diagnosis, but how is it determined as ODD vs lets say someone who is acting out because they've been sexually abused?

I have a daughter with special needs (not the 10yo) and I feel like our doctors are always VERY careful and not wanting to "label" her issues as they could be derived from a number of things, so it seems somewhat odd to me that Aliahna was labeled as such.

I wonder the reason for the partial blindness and hearing loss? I wonder how long ago she was given these diagnoses. She is only 9yo...seems like she's been through so much already in her life. :(

OT-
I know with my own child I fought against labels for a while.. but in order to bill insurance our providers said we HAD to give him some kind of diagnosis, there is no blood test, most of this stuff is based on symptoms, many of which overlap.. tourrettes is almost always comorbid with something else. in my son's case ADHD. As his behavior got increasingly violent his diagnosis then changed to ODD, when his therapist who had been seeing twice a weeks for years died suddenly with no warning, he was then diagnosed with PTSD , I don't know much about little Aliahna's diagnoses. But i don't think evolving diagnoses are bad or mean her therapists/doctors were incompetent or like someone suggested on another page "more diagnoses equals more meds". Anyway quick version of how my son's came about...

this is what the grandfather was charged with-child molesting-per Indiana Citation Code
http://codes.lp.findlaw.com/incode/35/42/4/35-42-4-3

this is the code on the sentence information here-
http://www.in.gov/apps/indcorrection/ofs/ofs?previous_page=1&detail=159050

date of sentence 3/06/2006
I don't want to know WHO specifically was molested, but I sure would like to know the age...don;t know if was class A or B felony
Apparently the sentence wasn't fully served.

Quite frankly, I worry what this little girl has been exposed to, that may have affected her emotionally

“We're not going to rule out anything as far as foul play. Maybe she's just at a friend's house,” said Ken Fries, Allen County Sheriff. “We're hoping somebody sees this and says, 'Oh Aliahna's at our house, come get her.'”
Aliahna also goes by the names “Ailey” and “Ana,” and Sepponen says she is partially blind and deaf and suffers from mood and conduct disorders.
Sheriff Fries says a run away unlikely. “Nine is young to be running away, especially when you couple that with Christmas,” Sheriff Fries said.

I have no idea what is meant by this quote: Sheriff Fries does not encourage people to help in the search because it could add confusion to officers who are searching.

Allen County Sheriff's Department officials say they will discontinue searches until they obtain new information on the whereabouts of 9-year-old Aliahna Marie Maroney Lemmon.

Also from the same article:
Aliahna’s grandpa died earlier this month. Sepponen says the family hasn't been coping very well and her cousin, Tara, also Aliahna’s mother, has been very ill.
http://www.indianasnewscenter.com/n...ng-for-Missing-9-Year-Old-Girl-136207958.html

Just the way that those statements in the second snip are strung together leads me to believe that mother might not be sick with a fever as originally reported, or even sick with a physical illness at all, but possibly debilitated due to emotional issues related to the grandfather's death. I could very well be wrong, but that has been my idea for a little while now, and the article seems to confirm that, be it in a backhanded way.

I also don't like how they say there will be no searches until they get more information...doesn't that just sound convenient to someone that may have had a part in her disapparance?

Of course that's what's going to happen. Doesn't everybody have an extra kid hanging out on Christmas morning??!!! I guess the people at the hang-out house said, "Oh look what Santa brought us...another kid!" Sheesh.

I might not should say this, but wanted to wind down this night on a wee less sad note...
I found some pics of her on a FB- I can't post obviously, but just wanted to say, to me, she looks so happy in those pics.
God please bring this child back.

OMG!!

Allen County Sheriff's Department officials say they will discontinue searches until they obtain new information on the whereabouts of 9-year-old Aliahna Marie Maroney Lemmon. Lemmon has been missing since late Friday night, early Saturday morning. Police were not conducting searches Christmas day.

They have barely looked for her!!!!!

http://www.indianasnewscenter.com/n...ng-for-Missing-9-Year-Old-Girl-136207958.html

BBM...WTF does that even MEAN? If someone had information on her whereabouts she wouldn't be missing. Ugh. I don't get it??

So she is last seen Friday about 6:00am, she is reported missing 14 hours later at 8:30pm, the LE stopped searching about 3:00pm Saturday, they do not want volunteers or anyone out searching because it will confuse them, the LE did not hold any searches Christmas day and they are discontinuing searches until they receive more information. Has any veteran wsers seen anything like this lack of action before?! It almost reads like something from an old movie- the good ole sheriff stops looking when it's dinner time, then kicks back after the meal with a toothpick in his mouth and says nobody cares about this kid anyway, we'll start looking again if somebody kicks up a fuss.

  • #231
This is absolutely the most frustrating case! LE is calling off the search until they find new information? How are they going to get any new information without continuing to investigate to their full ability? There is a 9 year old child somewhere out there on this Christmas night and it seems as though she just keeps getting passed off. MOO

I apologize if that was harsh or out of line for the forums. I'm new to posting here (long time lurker) and just couldn't help myself!

  • #232
yeah I just hope someone with LE is busy working on this...IMHO there is some hinky

  • #233
what worries me is that she is somewhere in that 'triangle' between N Clinton, Mayhew and 469/Lincoln Highway...to the south and east of the trailer park. There is woods and lakes. If she did leave the friend's/grandfather's trailer, then you think someone with sense would notice a small child wandering about alone early that morning...wouldn't you???

  • #234
IMO, LE knows who is responsible. They don't need to keep randomly searching if they can get them to confess.

I was thinking along those same lines. Maybe LE want to keep this case quiet, because they have their eyes on someone. They can be collecting solid evidence, in order to nail the person. Praying for the best! moo

Random thoughts here:

* If the sisters reported to authorities that they watched her put on her coat and leave the home alone, reportedly going to a birthday party, then all the theorizing about the guy taking care of them is off base.

* Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Not a crackpipe, not a post-homicide celebratory ritual, but a cigar.

* She wasn't three, she was nine. At that age I was out and about, as far from my parents as I could get, so long as I was home when the streetlights came on.

* There are a whole lot of broken families these days, more than at any time since the great depression. Millions of kids are sleeping in cars and in friend's homes. These kids were staying with a neighbor because mom was "sick." I suspect that sick in this case means "otherwise occupied" or just plain didn't give a damn. In my mind it says more about the mother than the guy watching them -- but in truth this girl (with her problems) might have been a real handful and perhaps mom really wasn't up to the job of handling her.

* Am I correct in my understanding that her nightmare coincided with his leaving to go buy a cigar? If so I find that interesting.

* Some people (me, for instance) are constantly trying to quit or cut back our smoking. For a while I switched to the cheap cigars, and only bought one at a time, thinking that the added hassle of going to the store would force me to cut back. More, if I really want a smoke I don't care if it's three in the morning and a tornado of fire is coming down the street, I need that evil cancer stick.

* There is a whole lot more to this story than we have learned so far.

Edited to add: I'm still really hung up on the thought that the sisters said she put on her coat and left. If that's true, that the sisters are maintaining that story after being separately questioned by competent investigators, then okay. That's what happened.

Respectfully snipped. Still catching up so this may have been posted but what we learnt regarding the younger siblings saying she put on her coat and left was reportedly told by the 40 yr old single male bachelor guy.

As far as I know there is no verification the girls actually said this.
