Circumstances of Disappearance:
Livingston was last seen in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana on August 6, 1993. He has never been heard from again.

Authorities believe he was a victim of the serial killer Herbert Richard "Herb" Baumeister, who murdered as many as 27 homosexual men between 1980 and 1996, many of them along the I-70 corridor between Indiana and Ohio. Livingston disappeared on the same day as another one of Baumeister's confirmed victims.

Baumeister shot himself in Port Huron, Ontario in June 1996, just as the police were preparing to arrest him. He left a note blaming his suicide on business troubles and his failing marriage, and did not mention the murders.

A search of Baumeister's eighteen-acre property turned up the burned skeletal remains of approximately eleven individuals, only four of whom have been identified. As a young gay man, Livingston fits the profile of Baumeister's victims, but his remains were not located on Baumeister's property. His whereabouts remain unknown.

Coroner Jeff Jellison of Hamilton County, Indiana, announced Tuesday that bone fragments belonging to Allen Livingston — a queer man who was just 27 years old when reported missing in 1993 — were among those newly identified out of the some 10,000 human remains investigators have collected over the years from an 18-acre farm in Westfield known as Fox Hollow

As decades slipped by, the bones and fragments sat in boxes at the University of Indianapolis' Human Identification Center, whose staff helped excavate the remains.

That changed after Eric Pranger sent Jellison a Facebook message in late 2022. The Indianapolis man's family had long believed his older cousin, Allen Livingston, was among Baumeister’s victims

Livingston was 27 when he vanished in August 1993 after getting into someone else’s car in downtown Indianapolis. After hearing about Baumeister three years later, his mother, Sharon Livingston, and other relatives began suspecting that Allen, who was bisexual, was among the dead.
