I must have been really distracted this morning. I didn't realize that the apartment complex where the search warrant was served is part of the same residential community where the other break in occurred on the morning of November 10, the one with the surveillance video of the guys in hoodies. (And it definitely was November 10. I checked the crime map. Same day, same time that the burglary took place two doors down from the Blackburns.)
Surveillance photos show burglars breaking into northeast side home

According to police, several suspects broke into a home in the 5700 block of San Clemente Drive around 5:30 Tuesday morning while the residents slept.

Police say there have been six break-ins at Cottages of Fall Creek Apartments within the month.

Police serve search warrant at northeast Indianapolis apartment

The search happened at an apartment on Brendon Way Drive off E. 56th Street Thursday evening.

It's not clear what evidence police seized and exactly what led them from the Blackburns' west side house to the apartment complex near I-465.

You know I've almost posted here so many times... I've been reading here, I'm closely following the local coverage, my whole family is. This is my community. I was born and raised here, this is so sad. The Blackburn's set up their church and worship in the middle school my husband attended. And our family church is less than 2 miles from there. I graduated from Lawrence Central and I can tell you I'm very familiar with the Cottages of Fall Creek Apts, formerly Brendon Way Apts. For the last 25 years this particular complex has been a problem, high crime...bad news. Put it this way, my parents never would've allowed me to hang around there, and the same goes for me with my kids. Lots of break-ins, very high drug activity... I have no idea what or if there's a connection, but I'm sure they're getting close to answers, and I hope everyone involved gets punished to the fullest extent of the law... The family deserves answers, and my heart is broken for Amanda and her unborn child... This is such a senseless tragedy.

Thanks for keeping this case about the facts, as of right now it appears the Blackburn's are victims and the community/local church community support them and are treating them as such...

eta... It may only be 10-11 miles between the Blackburn's and the Cottages of Fall Creek apt complex, but even taking the quickest route (probably Binford - Fall Creek Parkway - 38th st) would take around 25 - 30 minutes. Closer to 25 minutes at that time of the morning.... All routes are conjested with heavy traffic and lots of stoplights. Which also means there should be plenty of surveillance available if the two are connected...

All jmo.

With regard to LE's statement that those arrested were for other issues and unrelated to Amanda's murder, it is not uncommon for LE to arrest a suspect on other charges to get them off the street while they are building additional charges. It is possible that these persons arrested may face charges related to Amanda later, which of course LE would not talk about. :twocents:

Also, just wanted to say thanks to bessie for doing such a great job both modding this thread and also frequently updating with facts and media. I appreciate your hard work, and I'm sure others in the thread do as well!
Thank you, Ana. :)

I've been wondering all night if the charges are related to the San Clemente burglary. I can't get past the fact that crime occurred in the same apartment complex where at least one SW was served, and was one of six break-ins in that community within the past month. So perhaps LE has enough evidence now to press charges.

But the SW's -- apparently -- were served in relation to the Blackburn investigation, not the rash of burglaries, at least as far as we know. LE has never indicated the two might be related. Yet, it's impossible for any reasonably intelligent adult to dismiss the timing and the physical similarities of the suspects, and chalk it up to coincidence.

I also find it noteworthy that the San Clemente images were released immediately, but the media had to pull teeth to get that one grainy image from Sunnyfield Court. Of course, one incident involved a homicide. So that could make a difference. Also, one station had posted the video, but then removed it from their main site. I took that as a possible indication that LE didn't want it out there once they recognized a link between the crimes.

I'm just trying to sort out the dots so I can start to connect them. Lol One idea is beginning to make some sense. If LE was already on the trail of the apartment complex gang, and knew from the surveillance videos, and the general MO, that they were the same suspects who hit Sunnyfield Court, they likely wouldn't want to show their hand until they had enough evidence to show probable cause to go after them for both crimes. I just have a hunch LE has had a bead on these guys for awhile.

"We're coming after you. We will get you." That seemed directed at a specific individual, or group of individuals, as though it were meant to make them squirm without giving it away.

Just some thoughts about a nagging question. I don't think it will be long, though, before we have answer.

Thank you, heidisams. I'm so happy you decided to post. A local perspective is always helpful and appreciated. I'm sorry your community is faced with this tragedy. From what I've been reading, I can see so many have been touched. They're doing a wonderful job of pulling together and showing support for Amanda, her family, and for justice. :thumb:

The home has been released back to the family?
Why are there so many LE around?

They've added patrols since the murder. They even have cops on bikes riding through neighborhood. The residents greeted them with cookies, or cake, one morning after roll call.

What does that mean?
It means police are protecting the neighborhood, and lending reassurance to the shaken residents.

Blackburn’s neighbors pleased at progress in case

McConnell also wanted to thank IMPD for having a constant presence in the neighborhood. He said there’s at least one squad car parked on Sunnyfield Court every night. He showed us a picture of a group of officers on bikes who patrolled in the area.

Late Thursday night, an entire shift of officers held roll call right outside Blackburn’s home. One neighbor brought out a large plate of cookies for them to show her appreciation.

I think this is fantastic.
Police understanding the fears and concerns of the neighborhood.
Neighbors showing appreciation
Good stuff

Absolutely. My glock 29 10mm will shoot 10mm, .40 caliber, .357 sig and 9x25 dillon with a 2 second change of the barrel using the same magazine.
The 10mm is the parent round, the other 3 were designed around its case.
It will also shoot the .40 caliber "without" changing the barrel.

.357 magnums can also shoot .38 special ammo.
And if I'm not mistaken 9mm will work I a .40 caliber. Or vice versa. My memory fails me on that one.

The Medusa M-47 can actually fire 25+ different types of ammunition.

I'm bumping this for those who had questions about the gun and to show why ballistics testing is still important even if the gun and bullets are of different calibers.

That article references the WTHR article posted yesterday. LE has not confirmed.

From your link:

In a tragic new development, police say the pregnant pastor's wife who was murdered in Indiana was also sexually assaulted, reports WTHR-TV.

From the WTHR article:

Although it hasn't been confirmed by IMPD, several sources close to the investigation say DNA evidence could play a major role in identifying Amanda's killer. Eyewitness News has learned that during the burglary, Amanda Blackburn not only put up a fight, but tragically, was also sexually assaulted.

http://www.wthr.com/story/30558459/persons-of-interest-questioned-in-amanda-blackburn-murder

From the IndyChannel:

The following statement was issued to RTV6:

"At this point in the investigation, we cannot confirm, nor do we know that Amanda Blackburn was sexually abused.

That information may change as more evidence comes in, but at this time nothing in our investigation shows that."

Lt. Richard Riddle, IMPD Spokesperson

Good point. Maybe the burglars traveled the 10 miles after the other home invasion because they felt that more cops would be in the area if the home owner woke up shortly after and reported it.

Or they were given themselves distance. Idk. But I am glad LE is beefing up patrols in neighborhoods that are usually not high crime areas as well as those areas that are high crime.

I think the husband and wife simply follow daily regiments like people in the armed forces. Some people are just disciplined to keep up daily regiments.

But it should be obvious that hubby is innocent since we see these individuals robbing 3 different homes that day.

Now if it was a paid hit. Then why risk it by using the debit card at a gas station and atm.

So hubby is definitely innocent in my mind. Jmo

I tend to agree here.

However taking a purse or any valuables from the home might also be seen as a means of making it look like a robbery. Using the atm card the same.

Ditching the purse somewhere and someone else with criminal tendencies coming along finds the purse and tries the card at atm with the birthdate on the drivers license, is not unreasonable.

Would be interesting to know if the person had the correct pin when using the card and if it was indeed something that could have been guessed. I have been wondering if they'd show the atm photo, although would seem utterly stupid for someone to try that without covering the camera. Also, how soon after that card was attempted to be used and where, as it would help us evaluate the timeline and path of their departure. Their very well could be other cameras on that path that could catch them in a photo or their vehicle.

But I wouldn't use these robberies as definitive evidence, as LE currently haven't confirmed they are linked - to my knowledge.

My overall point is that anything that you think makes it obviously look like a robbery, is what someone who is trying to make it look like a robbery might plan to do.

I have to believe that there is some concrete evidence that we are unaware of, that rules out the hitman theory. - possibly a family owned gun being used to defend against the intruder and gets turned on victim - sorry had to float that again.

god it's frustrating to have so little and seemingly unreliable information to evaluate!
