Delaware County Coroner Scott Hahn told The Star Press that there were no obvious wounds apparent in the remains found in a remote area between Yorktown and Daleville. That means the cause of death — homicide, suicide, natural causes or an incident involving a train on the tracks next to the body — was unknown Monday.

"There's no bullet holes in the skull," Hahn said by way of example early Monday afternoon, a few hours after the remains were found by railroad workers...

At about 10 a.m. Monday, railroad workers found the skeletal remains of a body along railroad tracks near County Roads 700-West and 300-South, Sheriff Ray Dudley told The Star Press. The discovery was made not far from the Tri-County Builders Supply business, Dudley said.

Although efforts continue, authorities have not yet identified — or determined the gender of — a body found in late November along railroad tracks in rural southern Delaware County...

Hahn said Thursday that determining the gender was harder because the remains were "missing half the pelvis"...

Investigators, who went back to the scene a few days after the remains were found to look for some missing finger bones, found two rings, Hahn said Thursday.

"One had some engraving," the coroner said, adding in answer to a question that the rings looked like something a woman would wear.

Just came across this while browsing threads in Indiana. Sad to see nothing has been posted or updated here. I see there has been activity on the FB page, but no recent news at all.

This week, at the request of The Star Press, investigators released photos of two rings found with the remains. The two rings are very distinctive-looking and should be recognizable to someone who knew the person before they died.

One looks like little more than a rusty, rough band with a star-shaped flower.
The other ring is a smooth but twisting band of metal upon which is inscribed a Bible verse from Philippians 4:6.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God," reads the verse.
Investigators believe the remains are that of a white male, 30 to 50 years old. The person had heel spurs and at least two fractures: One a healing stress fracture of the 7th thoracic vertebra and one perimortem fracture of the left shoulder, broken at or around the time of death.

Blue basketball shorts, size extra large, and white men's underwear were also found in addition to the rings.
It's unknown if the cause of death was related to the nearby railroad tracks.

Identified - Brian Keith Hammer Jr.
---
A body found with two rings that police hoped could help identify the remains has been identified as that of an Indianapolis man.

Delaware County's coroner says the body found in November 2016 along railroad tracks is that as Brian Keith Hammer Jr. The coroner says Hammer was 31, and his cause and manner of death remain undetermined.

The Star Press reports DNA swabs taken from Hammer's parents positively identified his body.

But Seth Hackler, who's dating Hammer's sister, says two rings found with the remains gave relatives the first indication the body might be Hammer's. Police released photos of those rings last June in seeking the public's help.

Hackler says Hammer's ex-girlfriend recognized one ring that's engraved with a Bible verse as a band that once belonged to her.

He went for a walk to get some fresh air and never returned. He was only wearing shorts with no shirt or shoes and he didn't take any other personal belongings with him."
