Tori Michelle Dennison, 26, was arrested in the early hours of Friday, April 25th, 2025. Police were called to 130 Regatta Court, Apartment E, at approximately 2:32 am. A report of "a female actively stabbing her girlfriend" was made.
When police arrived at the scene at 2:36 am, they had to make a forced entry. Once inside, they could hear knocking, screaming, and crying from upstairs. One brave officer, Andrew Gibbs, went to the stairwell to announce police presence and ordered everyone to come down the stairs with their hands up. When Dennison came into view, she was bathed in blood covering both her arms and hands, as well as her clothing. She had the murder weapon, a survival knife, in her right hand.
Gibbs and another brave officer, McMindes, advanced into the apartment. They discovered a female, later identified as Casey Kellan Hilt, 23, lying on her back in Dennison's mother's bed. Her eyes and mouth were open, though she was no longer breathing. Lifesaving options were deemed not plausible by that point.
They continued their search until they located Dennison's mother and two others in another room. All three were evacuated and later interviewed.
Dennison had been drinking throughout the night while Hilt had remained sober. The two got into a verbal altercation when Dennison's mother had Hilt come up the stairs so that she could get some sleep. 10-20 minutes later, Dennison went up the stairs with the survival knife.
Shortly before the police were called, Dennison's mother heard the two arguing and went to break up the fight when she heard "No, Tori, no." She walked in on the stabbing and initially believed that her daughter was punching Hilt. Dennison then turned on her mother and chased her into another room, where Dennison's sister placed the call to 911.
Dennison stabbed at the door, and later confirmed that she had "intended to kill everyone else."
Later, when Dennison was at the hospital getting DNA samples collected, she asked the medical staff a chilling question: "Did I kill her?"
Dennison also admitted to having schizophrenia, depression, and anxiety. However, she also stated that she hadn't taken her medications "in a long time."
On May 7th, 2025, a notice of insanity was filed.
State of Indiana v. Tori Dennison jury trial is to be held on July 21st, at 9 am.
