Daughter shares thoughts on the disappearance of her Boonville mother

“I could tell that she was getting worse, just with her memory and repeating things and talking to my brother he said she was getting worse not wanting to eat,” Martin explained.

Donna lives with her son in Boonville, according to Martin, and Donna’s ex-husband believes it was the morning of June 13th when he last saw her.”

Obvious question: she lived with her son, is there a reason the son failed to report her missing?

Also from the article: she is known by the last name Rainey.

I lived nearby for a few years and worked at the hospital there. I’m checking in with old friends to see if anyone knows anything. If so, I will get them to join.

This is so sad. I hope they are able to find Donna. :(

"That she left, somebody picked her up and she left with him is the story he (Rainey) is giving me,” Arnold recalled. “When I asked why he couldn’t just give me the information, he said ‘mom’s wishes were to be left alone.’ Later on, he proceeded to tell me he doesn’t know where she is.”

“She disappeared with her suitcase and a large sum of money,” Arnold says Rainey told her.

Our reporter asked if that sounds like their mom or something Hatfield would do?

“No,” Arnold answered. “She is physically able to walk, but at that time, my brother, the last two times I talked to him in March and May, he thought it was time to put her in a nursing home. She wasn’t eating very well.”

Daughter shares thoughts on the disappearance of her Boonville mother
[...]

Martin describes her mother as friendly, kind-hearted and often seen with a smile on her face.

“I think she’d talk to anybody."

We’re learning Hatfield suffered from Alzheimer’s and enjoyed taking walks. Police say she has wandered off in the past but was always later found in the immediate area.

“The police officers may bring her back, or that kind of thing, so they knew her,” Martin recalled.

Martin tells us she last spoke to her mother in the spring.

He says that she is not missing and being well taken care of?

Um, ok, where is your mother being taken care of?

I bet LE has to treat him with kid gloves right now, so they can hopefully find out where his mother is. I don't think she's in a safe environment being well taken care of, do you?

‘I don’t believe my mother is alive’: Missing Boonville woman’s family shares concerns after meeting with lead detective
  1. A few of Hatfield’s family members met with the lead detective in the case Thursday. Her son, the one she was living with, was not in that meeting.
  2. The family admits there has been some separation between them.
  3. “I don’t believe my mother is alive,” Hatfield’s daughter, RA, said.
  4. There have been no signs of Donna in nearly three months.
  5. “There is no evidence of bank transactions, phone records, or reaching out to anybody,” Hatfield’s brother explained.
  6. She has Alzheimer’s and was living with her son in Boonville.
  7. The Chief said that her son, TR, has not been very cooperative.
  8. TR told 14 News police searched his home and took his cell phone.
  9. He also said Donna was not home when we stopped by, but also said she’s not missing and that she is being cared for.
  10. "That she left, somebody picked her up and she left with him is the story he (TR) is giving me,” Arnold recalled. “When I asked why he couldn’t just give me the information, he said ‘mom’s wishes were to be left alone.’ Later on, he proceeded to tell me he doesn’t know where she is.”
  11. “She disappeared with her suitcase and a large sum of money,” RA says TR told her.
  12. When asked if that was something her mother would do, RA said, “No, she is physically able to walk, but at that time, my brother, the last two times I talked to him in March and May, he thought it was time to put her in a nursing home. She wasn’t eating very well.”
  13. RA, who now lives in TN, says she spent more than 4 hours with TR on Thurs.
  14. “He talked about caring about my mom and how much he loved her,” RA said. “And didn’t want to see her suffer. He was emotional about that. He kept saying ‘I took care of her for four-and-a-half years’ and it just got to the point where she was sitting around and she wasn’t doing anything.”
  15. 14 News reached out to the detective but he was not working Friday.
  16. “I believe he knows what has happened to my mom,” RA added. “I believe that. He lived with her. He took care of her. He was very protective of her. He wouldn’t let her wander off or just leave with anyone.”
  17. Boonville police continue to investigate this as a missing person case.

Family Demands Answers After Woman Missing for Months - 44News | Evansville, IN
[...]

“Whether she is still with us or not, we want to know what happened,” says TC, Donna Hatfield’s brother.

[...]

RA and her sister, SM, were both woken up in the middle of the night by an alarming phone call from their father, who is now Donna Hatfield’s ex-husband.

“He mentioned that he was told by my brother that my mom had passed away,” says RA. She says her brother, TR was told her mom passed away at the hospital from an aneurysm on a Sunday. On Monday, August 26th, Hatfield’s family made a jaw-dropping discovery after Donna Hatfield’s daughter, SM, called the hospital hoping to say her final goodbyes to her mom.

“And they said that there was nobody here in the morgue under that name,” says RA. “So SM immediately called all the other hospitals.”

That’s when they discovered Donna’s son, TR, never took her to the hospital.

“He’s not real familiar with the truth sometimes let’s put it that way,” says TC, Donna Hatfield’s brother.

[...]

TR has been arrested in the past, but not during this investigation. Hatfield’s family is asking the public, if you think you’ve seen him out in the past couple months, please let the police know. As they are trying to piece together a timeline of Hatfield and Rainey’s whereabouts since they lived together.

[...]

“He’s told neighbors she’s in a nursing home,” says TC. “He’s told other friends that she died in June. We don’t know what to believe at this point.”

On Thursday, when Hatfield’s daughter went to talk to TR she became emotional about their mother’s alleged death. That’s when TR told his sister not to worry because she’s actually alive. This is the last story he told her.

“She left with someone and old friend of hers and she was happy and I didn’t need to worry about it and when I asked him, ‘Why can’t you just tell me or tell the detective where she’s at?’ He said, ‘Mom doesn’t want to be bothered.'”

[...]

Donna Hatfield gave TR her house in exchange for taking care of her. Her daughters say they believe her dementia and declining health may have taken a toll on TR, even though they believe he loved his mom.

His sisters say they offered to put her in a nursing home back in May, but he declined their offer.

Family asks for help during search for missing 72-year-old Boonville woman
[...]

“Donna’s a very friendly, outgoing lady, she doesn’t know any strangers.” TC smiles as he talks about his sister.

It’s clear Donna Hatfield’s family knows her as a warm person, who would welcome anyone.

“Mom was always smiling, when I talked to her on the phone she was always laughing,” says her daughter SM.

[...]

Donna suffers from Alzheimer’s, but her family says she wasn’t totally dependent on her caretaker.

“She would get lost very easily, as Alzheimer’s patients tend to do. But we don’t think she’s lost now, in that sense. […] Somebody would have seen her.”

[...]

“We’ve been getting different stories,” said TC. ”That she’s died, that she was in a nursing home, that she was in the hospital, that she died of pneumonia, that she died of an aneurysm, that she died from a stroke.”

Right away, they said, they called the police.

“They have talked about getting phone records, bank records, I feel like they are working very hard,” SM said. She met with the lead detective yesterday.

[...]

Armed with little more than suspicion and their love for Donna, they are asking for help to bring Donna home.

“I want to find my mom,” says SM. “That’s what I want. I want to find my mom, no matter what it takes, and we need help.”
