A 52-year-old woman in Indiana was arrested over the weekend after she was allegedly caught on camera abusing her foster children, including forcibly shoving and holding the head of one of the children in her toilet bowl while he struggled to get free.

Roxie Lee Huffman was taken into custody on Sunday and charged with one count each of domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old and one count of neglect of a dependent, court records reviewed by Law&Crime show.

Police say that Phillips showed the officers a 12-second video where a woman alleged to be Huffman was shouting at one of the children while forcefully submerging their head into a toilet bowl, WEHT reported. As the child could be seen struggling to break free, another child reportedly entered the frame as the woman continued to use offensive language, repeatedly exclaiming, “Do you see that!” as she continued to forcibly press the second child’s head into the toilet, the station reported, citing the court documents.

Additionally, Phillips reportedly provided authorities with eight photographs showing injuries suffered by one of the children. Four of the images allegedly showed the child with bleeding lacerations on their forehead, two depicted bleeding lacerations on the back of the neck, and another two showed a bleeding scratch and abrasion on the child’s throat and left collarbone. Phillips noted that this particular child has been diagnosed with Epilepsy and Addison’s Disease — a rare illness that affects the production of hormones in the adrenal gland, the station reported.

Honestly, I am not a fan of foster care. I have had the experience of meeting many, good people and bad people. Personally, I think that a nice residential school would be a better plan for these kids.

I have heard all sorts of horror stories about "institutions", but I have actually worked at "institutional schools", residential school for deaf and blind children. No one was abused. It was a wonderful, supportive environment.

No one pushed kids heads in a toilet.

When I worked in a clinic with a pediatrician we had some very nice couples who had one or two foster kids, the kids seemed very happy and the foster parents were loving and really seemed to care about the kids.

We had other couples who clearly only took in fosters for the money. At the time payment was around $500 per month per child, plus food stamps. One couple had nine foster kids, and they were in the clinic regularly. The kids seemed to be well taken care of but the foster parents didn’t seem to be fond of the kids, let alone love them.

I was in the exam room when the doctor asked the man what kind of work he did, and he said neither of them had to work, as they earned nearly $50,000 a year taking in foster kids.

Well, there’s another post in this forum about a nurse who’s the director of a residential facility for youth who was abusing and drugging the kids! I mean wth. I know this is nothing new, kids have been abused for centuries. But can’t we be the society that says enough. And figure it out! I just went on a tirade about the foster system on the Arabella (San Diego) thread.

But since we allow classrooms of children to be murdered every year, obviously protecting kids is of little concern.

(I really need to stay out of the children’s crime forum. I just get enraged. ).
