Identified! IN - Gary, WhtFem skeletal in sand dune, Aug'10 - Sylvia Jones

housewife/motherof3, thank you for all the information, I truly appreciate it, and -- welcome to Websleuths, we are glad to have you here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks so much for allowing me to join this great site and i am so glad to be here :)
i hadn't saw any of their names so wanted to throw them out there

the hair thing had me too until i remembered tricia had chunky blonde highlight it is very visible in some pictures i have seen .........not sure though

Given the jacket, I think we're looking at sub-10 years for this even at the outside.

If there was a Jean Jacket and blue jeans next to the remains, I would say it's probably not Gluekert or any of the Indiana Dunes three. I suspect that pure cotton would not have lasted 35-45 years under those conditions.

I came across this article, I don't know if it will be helpful or not.

Fabrics may aid the forensic scientist and/or detective in determining length of time since death. Decay of fabrics is based on what the materials are and how long they've been there. Styles of shoes and clothing also help pinpoint dates. Below is a chart representing the most common types of fabrics and exposure to various elements over time.

Material Length of Time in Good Condition (in months)

Rayon >>>>>>>>> 1-2 if buried 5 on surface

Paper >>>>>>>>> 1 in alk or fresh water 5 on surface/in acid*

Cotton/Wool >>>>>>> 6 in alk or fresh water 10 to 15 on surface/in acid

Human Hair >>>>>>>>>10 to 15 if buried wind blows it away on surface

Cotton/Poly >>>>>>> 15 on surface 25 to 35 if buried

Other Plastics/Leather >>>>>>> 15 to 35 on surface >48 if buried

*paper is partially acid, so acidic soils do not affect it as quickly as alkaline

Skull? This is a full skeleton, and they have not released much info yet. Maybe you are thinking of a different case if you are thinking of just a skull?

hth

Opps sorry wrong case. (skull)

I spent hours looking, getting involved with other missing person cases along the way.

I was wondering that myself. In some of the photos Drew is wearing a jacket that looks quite a lot like one of the Zeroxposur Systems jackets, and Stacy is the kind of athletic young woman they aim at.

There's quite a lot of evidence that she was removed from the house in a blue barrel, but that doesn't mean she was buried in it. He might have buried her separately and then thrown the barrel away.

Drew made comments after Stacy's disappearance that she would likely be found laying on a beach somewhere.

Stacy was a nursing student at the time of her disappearance. It is possible that she wore scrubs as part of her academia.

She was also supposedly headed to a house to assist with painting, so it is not out of the realm of possibilities that she might have been wearing an old scrub top to paint in.

I don't have any idea how far Bolingbrook, Illinois is from Gary, Indiana, but I certainly would not be excluding Stacy from the list of potential victims.

Bolingbrook to Gary appears to be roughly an hour and a quarter, depending on where exactly one left from and went to.

Hi everyone, I went looking through photos of Stacey Peterson in search of a photo of her wearing a jacket coat similar to the one described in the news media. I didn't find anything but doubt DP would have given any photos of her wearing a jacket similar to one in which she could have been buried.

However, I did see photos of DP and also Stacey's sister wearing jackets similar to this description. IDK why, but DP's comment that Stacey is probably 'laying on a beach somewhere' does make me suspicious that this UID found on a sand dune could possibly be Stacey. There always seems to be a lil bit of truth in the statements of socoipaths, ya know!

I hope it's ok to post MOO since I don't post on this thread very often but do read here.
You all do great work!

Respectfully bbm
she had a white shirt on that's why she had a white bra on . . .
aLSO SAYS SHE MAY HAVE BEEN ON THE OLDER SIDE OF THE AGE RANGE AND PROBABLY NOT LOOKING FOR SEXUAL ADVENTURE OR IT COULD WELL HAVE BEEN A DARK BRA...TO GET ATTENTION Moo moo moo lol

:>)

i think we are on the same track mtrooper. When i saw the glitter underwear and white bra i thought along the same lines. I hope this is not tmi and my apologies for possibly not stating this well (words fail me sometimes), but a girl with her guy would probably wear a matching bra and panties set. nice underwear and a plain white bra doesn't really add up. i can't place a white scrub shirt. I usually see scrubs in various colors... Any idea's on a white scrub?

My worst fear on this one is a runaway teen or a teen who slipped through the system. I hope i am wrong, but i have that gut fear in this case.

My initial reaction is to lean more towards the gentlemans club than the truck stop. Particularly because someone spent the time to bury rather than dump the body. I may be generalizing, but do many known truckers who are convicted of murder go to the extremes of burying rather than dumping a body?

Of course she could also be from anywhere and hitched a ride to this location due to the proximity of the truck stops.

In another one of your posts you mentioned you did not yet see this in namus. I would think, and hope, they may be waiting to get additional forensic info before updating in namus, but then again, not all counties use namus. I know i couldn't get my county to use namus for all the gold in heaven or all the tea in china. I've actually thought the cubs will win a world series before my county uses namus. ( it's a sore spot with me, can you tell? My county not using namus, not the cubs ;) ) :banghead:

I dunno off the top of my head if lake cty indiana is currently utilizing namus.

:bump:

Sadly, I am still not seeing this case entered into NamUs or Doenetwork.

Anyone know if this one has been id'd and we just missed it? Or if Gary, IN / Lake County lists their UID's online outside of Doenetwork and NamUs?

I called the Lake County Coroner's office to find out whether the identity of this woman has ever been resolved. After searching around for a bit, she indicated that the paperwork and the remains were sent off to a forensics lab, and she has no access to the information on whether or not the identity has been resolved.

I suspect that if the remains are at a forensics lab, then it probably remains unresolved, although that isn't a definite conclusion. There are other reasons other than identity for the remains to be sitting for a year at the lab.

I also tried several times calling Detective Art Azcona, who is in charge of this case, but he doesn't answer his phone, and doesn't even have an answering machine.

I still haven't seen anything to indicate that this case has ever been resolved.

I think this is the same case, despite that the date is two months off.

This case came to mind after reading about the arrest of William 'Clyde' Gibson in connection with the murders of at least three women in southern Indiana.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2136781/Human-remains-backyard-man-suspected-murders.html

Gary is in Northern Indiana though, so it is probably not related to him.

ETA: I had the Clyde Gibson case confused with this one. (i.e., another body found buried in an Indiana backyard)

That's why I was thinking Gary IN when I saw that article.

Some lab workers wear scrubs, also my dental hygienists have often worn white scrubs.
I have seen some janitoral staff wear scrub like uniforms, but they tend to be gray in color.

If this is the same as the Namus case CarlK posted above- they don't give a description of clothes found with the body. Also they say the decedent is 5 ft 8 which is taller than the average person- a good starting point.

Johnnathan Fuller lured Sylvia Marie Jones to the beach in October of 2009, according to an affidavit filed with an arrest warrant issued last week.

Jones’ skeletal remains were found on Aug. 30, 2010, by a man looking for snakes and lizards near 8801 Melton Road in Gary, between the Indiana Toll Road and U.S. Highway 20. They were not identified until September 2011, after Chesterton and state police investigating Jones’ disappearance were told by witnesses that Fuller had killed her.

Geez, you should read the article. I think that her family should sue the murderers ex-wife. What a mess.
She was wearing scrubs because she had been hospitalized recently.
RIP Sylvia.

That's really sick. Poor Sylvia. Rest in peace.

That is so sad - taking advantage of her intellectual impairment and getting Sylvia to dig her own grave under the pretense that they were looking for buried money is just unbelievable.

I hope Sylvia has found peace now.

Is anyone able to tell me if there were any known missing person reports filed for this woman? Or did the murderer scare off everyone from reporting her missing?
