Officers arrived to find two children — an 8-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy — with gunshot wounds. They were taken to trauma centers in critical condition but have since been described as “stable.”


IMPD said the children were playing in an inflatable bounce house when they were shot.

An adult was shot as well.

Two children and one man were injured after someone opened fire on a 4th of July cookout on the east side of Indianapolis.

The cookout was outside a shopping center on the south side of 38th east of Arlington.

“At this time, it’s still very early on in the investigation, but we have initial reason to believe that this was an unprovoked attack, that the suspects arrived on the scene and opened fire on a crowd that was having a Fourth of July celebration. They were having a cookout with a bounce house. There were several children that were present and several adults as well,” Leepper said. The suspects “opened fire into the crowd and then fled the scene.”

Both children are still in critical condition.

Photo shows a couple of inflatable bounce houses set up at this cookout. How incredibly sad that this happened at such a fun event for children.

I can't fathom how people could fire repeatedly into an area with so many children. They knew the children were there. There are no words.
