Found Deceased IN - Jacob Moneus, 3 months, Lafayette, 10 Aug 2024 *believed to be in extreme danger and may require medical assistance*

Prosecutors charged 28-year-old Eliasard Moneus, the infant's father, with murder. After putting the baby in an orange bucket beside the trash can in the apartment in the 2500 block of Lexington Court in Acorn Acres apartments, prosecutors said Moneus left the home. His wife said she thought he was gone about 30 minutes, then he came back with a tire iron and beat her while she tried to watch a televised church service, according to prosecutors.

Additionally, prosecutors charged Moneus with aggravated battery, criminal confinement, battery with serious bodily injury and domestic battery with a deadly weapon.

Wyatt entered a not-guilty plea for Moneus and appointed a public defender for him.

She informed him of the no-contact order with his wife and had him sign a form acknowledging the order.

Hopefully they don't go to trial and this waste of space spends the rest of his life in jail

Eliasard Moneus acknowledged in court Thursday morning that on the August 2024 night he fractured the skull of his wife with a tire iron, intending to kill her, he put their 3-month-old son Jacob head-first into a bucket of laundry detergent, sealed it and left the Lafayette apartment.

As part of the agreement, prosecutors will drop related charges of aggravated battery and domestic battery with a deadly weapon. The plea also laid out that Moneus, who had been living in Lafayette under a temporary protected status as an immigrant from Haiti, could be deported if he’s released from the Indiana Department of Corrections.

According to his plea agreement, Moneus faces 65 to 95 years in prison when he's sentenced on July 1.

Moneus will have to serve 75% of his prison sentence, meaning he'll be in prison roughly 48 to 71 years. He has nine months' credit for pretrial detention.
