IN - Joshua McLemore, died after 3 weeks in custody, Jackson County, 2021

It’s very horrible they didn’t have any medical staff that could help him. I will say I don’t blame the jail for putting him in a padded room and being cautious by restraining him. Meth is a wicked drug that basically makes a person insane fairly quickly with heavy use, I’ve seen some become so unpredictable it’s scary.

Yeah but like why even transfer him to the jail? I would think the hospital could deal with him a lot better.

Absolutely agree! He could have been sedated there. Sadly once that damage is done mentally …..they don’t come back to normal. It’s absolutely frightening to watch someone change so quickly from that drug. Friend of my sons got into it awhile back and sadly he’s a mess, out in left field. Lost everything, no one wants to be around him and he’s in and out of jail. There’s no reasoning left in his brain at all.

Right?! Correct me if I’m missing it, but I don’t think he was even booked for a crime, right? I saw the part about him pulling a nurse’s hair while he was in the throes of psychosis, which is what he was being checked out for anyway. Is that why they threw him jail? If so, it’s sad commentary about the failures of our healthcare system, just as much as it is a bad look for the criminal justice system.

IMO, we need to step up our mental healthcare game in this country big time!

That’s all I saw as well. Just brutal!
