GARY, Ind. (STMW) – A 13-year-old boy was shot and killed Friday evening in northwest Indiana by a neighbor who was upset about his house being burglarized and became enraged when the teen laughed at him. On Monday, the neighbor was charged with murder.

Kobe Jones died of multiple gunshot wounds near his home in the 1000 block of Polk Street in Gary and was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:31 p.m. Friday, the Lake County coroner’s office reported.

On Monday, Gary police said 30-year-old Khanji Fairley was charged with murder.

ke Superior Court Judge Clarence Murray set bail at $3,000 cash on Thursday for a Gary man charged with murder in the shooting death of a 13-year-old last fall in Gary.

Murray agreed to bail after deputy prosecutor David Rooda indicated that a key witness in the case against Khanji Fairley, 30, cannot be located for the trial, which is scheduled to begin June 29.
