Now why would Chapman make it clear his client doesn't know who called him? Seems odd to put it that way. He certainly knows what cellphone his phone was called from and nobody would expect him to verify who dialed it.

It's also possible DR really didn't know who called him. He may not have had JR in his phone, which could be another reason he didn't answer.

Sorry to randomly ask this but do we have any clarification whatsoever as to where Jesse was actually living on June 3??

There very well may bE I just haven't seen it..

JW is texting the phone. At some point, probably around 12n-1p someone at Kilroy's calls or texts JW back and says phone has been at the bar. It hits him that something's really wrong. He calls HT and arranges to pick up the key at her class. He goes to apartment - no Lauren he and two firends (not ht) are involved in filing police report.

So I guess, filling in the story would go something like this:
HT goes to bed that night not knowing where her roommate and friend is even though she knows Lauren was pretty messed-up. HT doesn't see Lauren in her room when she wakes up and so, everything is normal, goes to class.

JW going to the apt is only going to confirm what HT already knows cause that's the apartment she lives in. Unless she slept somewhere else. Which is why I want to know if she has a boyfriend. All these details missing from a story, which the person at the heart of, has been talking lots of JR this and JR that, deflecting details about her role in the night/morning.

I have no idea where a link is to this but I seem to recall reading somewhere that HT said that she didn't know Lauren wasn't in her room...I got the feeling that her door (Lauren's bedroom) was shut and HT went to class w/o realizing she'd never returned home. Anyone else read this??

At one point I had an address for him that I found by looking up his criminal activity. I don't remember, but it was on 9th, and maybe 3 or 4 blocks east of College? Maybe a little more (there are some small blocks out that way).
Since the record I looked at was somewhat old (2010) I was never really sure that was his current address, but it matched the location that other people were describing.

My take on HT is that she's an attention seeker, and possibly protecting a friend or two, even if she doesn't know anything.

I have a hard time thinking she would talk so much if she knew anything that happened, unless she was guilty of a homicide, which I really, really doubt. Her statements don't always add up, so I'm always suspicious of her, but the more I think about it, the more I think she is just an attention seeker, but will stick her neck out for a friend or two who might be a POI.

She took that picture that was in the news, for the article they did on her and Lauren. I thought that was in bad taste.

Celebrity wannabe? Another symptom of how gross our society is.

Anyway, my point is, as an HT doubter, I don't think she knows anything, but I still wouldn't believe anything she ever told me.

I agree. She wasn't included in the night's events, yet she has so much to say about what everyone else has told her.

I believe she likely has no first hand involvement but is becoming a huge attention seeker. I still have yet to figure out why she posed for photos.

If my friend was missing, I wouldn't be so concerned with making sure I posed for photos for the paper. You're right...poor taste indeed.

answering your post with a recent post

Found some early MSM articles referencing HT. Interesting to look back:

Police think Spierer never made it home early that morning. Her roomate, HT, says she was the first to notice Lauren was gone.

A little further than that - 0.6 miles on foot from 11th and college, 0.5 from Smallwood.

Since LS talked to her mom frequently, I would imagine she would mention names of people she was hanging out with. She could have even brought some of them home with her. If this is the case, her mom knows who her friends were and would expect those people to come forward with any information they might have. Obviously, it appears they haven't.

AGREED. When I first saw the picture HT took for that article (sorry no link), I thought, "this was after LS went missing?" She looked so peaceful leaning on some kind of pole, not like a scared or distraught friend.

I don't think she knows what happened. If she did she wouldn't be granting so many interviews for attention.

But most of her friends likely don't know anything.
Assuming LS had some sort of accidental death and somebody hid her body-LS is very small so potentially one person could manage to hide the body without any help. And if it's a stranger abduction, then none of her friends would know anything. I don't believe there is some giant conspiracy by her friends to hide the information.

Hi all, I live in Bloomington (24 years old; went to IU - don't know anyone involved in the case, though) and have been lurking on these threads for some time. Just thought I'd share an interesting story that transpired last night:

The boyfriend and I were out walking, and decided to retrace Lauren's steps that night, just to set the scene and brainstorm. We walked from Smallwood up to 10th & College, then through the alleys to 5North, and finally back toward Smallwood along College.

First - the alley with the camera, where Lauren was from 2:48-2:51 is visible from MANY surrounding apartments, and even a pool belonging to Morton Mansions! It was pretty desolate and abandoned last night, but more students would have been around three weeks ago. So, someone uninvolved could have easily witnessed the "activity" in the alley ? This alley is VERY well-lit.

The final half-block's worth of alley, however, becomes much darker, with rougher gravel and glass on the ground, and is a steep incline uphill. As my bf and I walked through this alley, a white SUV drove west through the perpendicular alley (from College to Morton between 10th & 11th)...they stopped and just STARED at us, for MINUTES! It was dark and I couldn't really see the people in the car.

Bf and I freaked out and hid behind a tree, especially when they finally inched away from us only to PARK on Morton! It was just really spooky since we were standing right there at the scene of the crime and some mysterious car starts creepin'.

We continued around to the front of 5North. I noticed that I could overhear people hanging out inside one unit very easily -- like there was not much sound barrier. There is also a window on the east-facing side of the building through which you probably *can* see most of the way to the corner.

The construction project on the opposite side of 11th st is dark and massive, with many places someone could easily hide (or fall and hurt themselves). In fact, we noticed a man standing on the second story of the construction, completely in the dark, just staring out at us.

My bf pointed out that when there is a red light on 11th st (ppl waiting to turn south on College), the cars stop very close to the sidewalk. He thinks someone waiting at that light might have noticed Lauren, and convinced her to get in the car - "Hey, you going to Smallwood?" - and yes, you can tell who is likely to live in Smallwood by their clothes / demeanor. The place where the first car would be stopped at the light is (probably) just barely out of view from the window at 5North. JR could have *basically* seen her walk to the corner, but not quite far enough to see her getting into the first car stopped at the light. (At that time of night, it'd prob be the ONLY car, so no witnesses).

My bf used to run a bicycle taxi company in Bloomington, and his main job was to cart drunk people home, or from one bar to the next -- he has seen and talked with enough drunk Smallwood girls to know how willing they might be to get in a random vehicle at that time of night.

Anyway, we walked south on College. The sidewalk from 11th to 10th has very uneven pavement and a bunch of sharp-looking debri...bf was walking barefoot and speculated that it might feel better to walk in the road, esp if it were late and no one was around.

Just south of 10th Street, on the opposite (east) side of College is Carl Salzmann's office (he is CR's attorney). According to him, LS never passed by his security camera. We were trying to figure out exactly what part of College his camera was pointed at, when we noticed a cop car driving up to us!!

The cop pulled into Salzmann's parking lot and stopped. "How you folks doing tonight?" He explained that someone had called us in for "walking around and stopping and looking at things". ARE YOU SERIOUS? He wanted to know our names so he could check if there was a warrant out for our arrest. It must have been that creepy white SUV that stopped and leered at us for five minutes who called us in (when we were seriously just walking through a public alley).

Anyway, apparently Bton has become paranoid, to the point of harassing innocent couples out for an evening walk. That was a lovely touch. We pretty much went home at that point.

----

Another question: was there a cover charge that night at Kilroy's? If so, it'd be strange to be there only 44 minutes unless a) you were there for an unusual reason / circumstances; b) you ended up leaving earlier than planned.
Welcome to Websleuths, bloom. We've had a large number of locals posting here for Lauren. The added insight has been very helpful to the rest of us. I'm glad you mentioned the glass and gravel in the alley, because that's something I've given a lot of thought to. I don't know how often LS walked around on the pavement barefoot, but I'm guessing not often. It would've been painful, I'm sure. She might even have cut her foot. We haven't heard of a trail of blood, so I guess she didn't. It just makes me sad to think of Lauren wandering around barefoot under the circumstances of that night. :(

BW was also LS's roommate during freshman year when they lived on campus. She was her roommate at Smallwood with HT and AS this second year.

Couple of things:

BW says LS carries her credit cards in her wallet/purse. We've never heard that they were nor weren't found with her keys/wallet.

At around 2:23 on the video, BW shakes her head just a touch "no" then nods "yes", JW's a great guy when asked about LS's boyfriend. Did she think the interviewer was going to name CR as LS's boyfriend there for a second?

BW's known LS since she was 9 yrs old, and has roomed with LS for the past 2 years, and "Never heard of him [CR]."

Perhaps, and I mean, perhaps---never met him, but never heard of CR. Nope. Not buying it.

If LS truly met CR only a short time (days) before she went missing, then it's quite likely most of her friends wouldn't know about him.

Awesome, Bloom. Good for you and your BF for being so hands-on and investigative. A couple of things:

* JR's unit is the tall one on the west side of the complex, so he would have had to see her from his front door.

* I've been wondering about the noise level. That is helpful to know.

She may have kept this fairly secretive since she was supposed to still be in a relationship with JW.

couldn't he have leaned his head out the window?

Jupiter...but not from the closest girlfriends/IU roommates--IMO, BW and HT.

Before I forget, one more thing about the 4:15 phone call. The reason LS would call DR (in JR's mind) is because that would separate DR and JR in a way that makes them less culpable as a team who might otherwise be perceived as involved together with drugs and accidental death.
