I sometime's wonder about when there's a body found and there happens to be a few girls that are in the area that are also missing and we all wonder if its her or her . But It seems to me atleast that most times when u find a body its never someone from the same town. It's someone thats been dumped from miles and miles away .

I don't know, CanMan. To me it seems to go both ways. It is true, though, that many UID's are found fsr from home.

Veritas - I hear your frustration. While it is not the norm to kill and dispose of life; it certainly does occurr with alarming frequency. And I agree that we as a society could be doing more to examine and mitigate the conditions which lead to this very personal violence.

Having my own theory about Lauren's disappearance; the most bitter aspect to accept, is that her body, her life, was just so deliberately and callously discarded. (I can't easily discard photographs, the mere images of life, such as those enclosed in thank you notes for wedding gifts or holiday greeting cards.)

We know that someone knows something. It seems those closest to her those last hours that night, know a lot more than they are saying. We would not be here otherwise. And the fact that they have been getting away with this, is unacceptable. They have no souls or remorse for what has happened. Else they would be leading the path to finding her. They just want to go on with their lives like Lauren was toast that got too done in the toaster and got tossed out.
Just as much as figuring out what happened to Lauren and finding her, it's also important that we refuse to accept that our country be a place where people can disappear without a trace and no one is held to account for it. This needs to be a National Priority. Way too many missing, way too many bodies turning up.
We have to change the idea that this is "normal". It's NOT!

Snipped by me. I agree with your entire post, Veritas, but the last few paragraphs make me curious. While I doubt JW was responsible for LS' disappearance, I wonder what he heard back at IU ... and what he suspects. While LS' parents obviously want and need closure, it would seem that he also would. His silence confuses me.

The thing that amazes me about the other case I follow is the lengths that the parents have gone through to keep the case alive. But it's sad, too, because not all of the parents themselves are alive anymore. That case is very old ... and it would be cold (there are finally new developments) if a couple of the parents hadn't been relentless.

I do believe that LS' parents will be equally relentless. And hopefully, someone who knows something will either develop a conscience or put two and two together (depending on how much they know). In the meantime, we keep LS in our hearts and minds.

Any news yet about the skull? Seems as if it's not her, yet in the fast this have been dismissed sooner than this...

Answering my own question, after having a full night of needed sleep. I suppose it's simply because he's a POI, and as such, has been told to keep hush. But the PI's comments were a little weird, IMO. And it's kind of like he's dropped off the radar. I guess I just wonder what HE thinks happened to LS (assuming he doesn't know) ...

I don't remember why, but I remember several people saying she would be found near Indianapolis. I wish I could find those posts because I remember there being several reasons which I am assuming were related to whomever these individuals suspected.

The skull was found on the 7th of July, we were made to believe at that time that it would be days to a few weeks before we would have identification. Were now approaching a month! Does that mean that they are having a problem extracting dna? having a tough time with a dental match? (we were told the teeth were fully intact) or do they have an identification, but are withholding it for one reason or another? I'm so confused and BPD is releasing ZERO, most likely because they have ZERO! So here's to hoping for closure for LS's friends and family!

If the teeth were intact, they would not even need to wait for the DNA. They could make an identification based on dental records. In either case, it should not have taken more than few days at most. Hard to understand what they are waiting for to release the results. If it was not her, my guess is that they would have announced it by now (?). So, it may well be her and they are still searching for other clues in that area? Impossible to know.

Here's an excerpt from LoHud article. Now I'm thinking there is more than a small chance this may be her.

Lauren Spierer’s parents may learn within a matter of days whether a human skull found July 8 is that of their missing daughter, the Marion County, Ind., Coroner’s Office told The Journal News.

It would typically take eight weeks to get test results on a human skull, but forensic experts are extracting a tooth from the skull that will be cross-referenced with dental records for Spierer.

Jupiter812,
I am right there with you. I've had a feeling all along about the skull found in White River. It just seems to me that they would have ruled her out by now if it wasn't her. Plus, the part in her Mom's letter when she said something like "if you put her in a body of water, the current could have taken her further away". It's like they have a theory and they are targeting those persons, trying to get them to spill it.

Yeah, I think by now they know the sex and approximate age even though they may say they don't know. Lauren's facial structure is distinct too, sad to say.

I've called coroners offices and policemen around the country about bodies found that could potentially be my missing friend, including many of the bodies found locally that we har speculated could be Lauren. They've always been able to tell me pretty quickly that it hasn't been her based on basics like height and gender. I know that decomposition because of time and location (water vs buried etc) change things, but I would think they have good reason to believe this might be Lauren if they're going so far as to do dental analysis.

Honestly, I hope it is her. Maybe that's the wrong thing to say...I just want the Spierer family to have even a little bit more closure and I really hope the discovery of her body leads to the conviction of whomever is responsible. The lack of justice in this situation is beyond maddening.

That was a great post and I totally agree with everything you said!!

I am kind of astounded that if teeth were present, they have been unable to determine whether or not there is a match to Lauren. I wonder if they extracted a tooth in order to retrieve DNA from it? I know teeth have DNA in the center.

I have no idea why they would need to extract the tooth to compare dental records either, but that is what the article claims.
Like you, the idea that the tooth is extracted to get DNA sounds more plausible to me.

Would this imply there is no hair on the skull?

I doubt there would be after a year or more anyway...
Obviously they are needing to do more than a simple dental comparison to verify identity. And tooth DNA is very specific, as opposed to some parts of hair DNA, as far as I know. Still, I cannot believe they have not been able to rule her out by now.
