Lora Ann Overton was last in contact with anyone on January 1, 2022, from Oakland City, Indiana — and she hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
At the time, Lora was 59 years old, living with David B. Hughes, a man convicted of murder in 1986 in Pike County, Indiana. Hughes has changed his story multiple times about when he last saw her. He claims she left in 2020 — yet evidence proves she was still at his property in June 2021, even sending a message saying they were planning to get married.
During this period:
Hughes was digging a large hole to pour a concrete foundation on his property.
He had a permit for a carport expansion.
He was reportedly building coffins.
With that timeline and location, there’s serious concern that Lora may be buried beneath that concrete. Her family and advocates have been begging for ground-penetrating radar (GPR) to search the site, but no formal investigation has taken place. Link to article

A search warrant was obtained to look for evidence in Lora's disappearance at a home at a home at 10281 East in Oakland City in November 2024. Specifically they were looking for:
financial documents
Lora Overton’s personal belongings
Lora Overton’s social security benefits including documents, statements, receipts, mail notices and ledgers
check books
electronics
biological evidence such as blood stains, spatter or smears
DNA evidence derived from biological samples
photographs or video recordings of the scene
hairs
fibers
human tissue
human bone.

David Hughes (and another woman) were arrested during that search but LE stated is was NOT for any crime related to Lora's disappearnce. (charges listed in article).

The only other info I could find on Lora was a (creditor) small claims action (closed) in Indiana and that she also was known as Lora Ann Ridgely (dissolution of marriage in Indiana decree issued 2004 Case No. 26C01-0303-DR-000045)

Given what we know so far, I personally don't think she will be found alive, but I do hope she is found so that there is justice.

There is actually other court records she had but for some reason have been scrubbed. I have been helping her daughter, who is my neighbor, try to find her and I also knew Lora. But I agree, I do not think she is still alive either.
