Margaret had been attending IU and decided not to re-enroll after the fall of 1976 until she decided on a major. She was employed as a housekeeper working 3 days a week to help with her expenses while in college. All of Margaret’s personal items were left behind; clothes, luggage, toiletries, checkbook, cash and eye glasses. n address book was located in her apartment Officer Webb contacted every person in the book however no one had seen nor heard from Margaret.

Margaret’s family has described her as a quiet and studious person that was not the type that would get into a stranger’s car.

At the time (1976-1977) Margaret was the 4th of 5 unsolved disappearances over a couple of years in the Bloomington area. In a 1990 interview with police officer Barbara Webb since deceased LE had no leads, no vehicle descriptions, no suspects it was as if Margaret vanished into thin air.

In 2013 there was a possible break in the case and the dental records of Margaret were sent to Florida investigators for comparison with a UID, however it was confirmed not to be Margaret.

I learned from someone today that it’s actually Margee.

She lived in a rooming house. There was at least one male friend at her place and possibly 1-2 females. Odd she left alone even for such a short walk. I’ve talked with a gentleman who went hitchhiking with her out west the summer before her disappearance. He said his roommate Bruce was much closer to her. He and Bruce lived one block west of her and possibly she passed by their place on the way and from (if she made it that far). Another person living in that block was a man named Wayne and his girlfriend. Wayne in 2000 went to prison for 20 dogs he owned in a very rural area of Indiana killed an elderly census worker. His girlfriend (don’t know her name) worked at a local restaurant at the time named Choo-Choo Cafe now Janko’s. The houses these people lived in are no longer there it’s a parking garage, but Magee’s house is still there.
Welcome to Websleuths MissingMargee. It sounds like you knew Margee. This Wayne guy sounds very suspicious.

I did not know her. I was 2 at the time of her disappearance. I do learn more about her everyday. Having that many vicious dogs seems paranoid af. I’m not sure where he was originally from, but at some point him living in a rural area makes me think he might have been from the area and would know places to hide a body. People mention Margee with other cases from that time period, but bodies were found in the other cases and fairly soon after.

Margaret has been missing for 47 years today.

Does anyone know who her employer was? It's not a big community, so someone has to know. Her family suspects he knows more than was said.

Suspected human remains have been discovered in Bloomington, Indiana (less than 5 miles from where Margaret was last seen at her home in the 700 block of Atwater Street — and only about 4.2 miles from the location where it has been established she purchased cigarettes on Indiana Avenue that evening as well back on March 10, 1977).

"Human remains found at dig site on Acuff Road on Bloomington's north side"

Investigators were at a site on Bloomington's north side Thursday [March 27, 2025] gathering evidence where excavation workers discovered human bones.

The afternoon of Wednesday, March 26, [2025] a work crew clearing land for a housing addition along Acuff Road just off Kinser Pike reported finding what appeared to be human remains on the property.

Police confirmed their suspicion and cordoned off the area, which is in the 1000 block of Acuff Road.

Could this discovery possibly be Margaret? There are quite a few people missing from Bloomington, Indiana and the surrounding areas.

All MOO, IMO.

Curious what is your source for this information? I have not seen this information in ANY newspapers.

I've been doing research into this case for several months and live in Bloomington. I am not going to state her employer's name here but he only lived 5 or 6 blocks away from her on S Fee Lane. I believe by this time he was in his 40's and divorced, and lived alone. Margie was said to work three days a week at his residence doing housework. I believed he also owned a couple of properties in town that he rented out likely to students. Although he wasn't originally from Bloomington he graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington with a degree in Journalism. In the Bloomington phone book for 1977 he was listed as being a "Construction worker" which I found odd for someone with a degree. I could not find any indication that he had a criminal record in the Indiana court records other than being cited a couple of times for having unmowed grass on a couple of his properties. He lived in his house on S Fess Avenue until his death in 2002. Most of my information comes from the Bloomington newspaper called the "Bloomington Telephone" in 1977. They later changed their name to the "Bloomington Herald" (which is what it is called today). For some reason the newspaper has never been digitized which makes research difficult. I had to go through a year's worth of microfilm to find the couple of articles about Margie's case. And I found one article in the Fort Wayne newspaper which is where she is from. On the other hand there were dozens of articles about Ann Harmeier, the IU student who also went missing several months after Margie. Ann's body was found 5 weeks after she went missing. She had been raped and strangled. Just like Margie's case Ann's was never solved. Although in Ann's case there were several decent suspects. I'm not aware of ANY named suspects in Margie's case. I could find no mention of her employer as a suspect. His name was only mentioned in the newspaper because he was basically her employer at the time. The police were quoted a few years after she went missing as saying there were no witnesses in her disappearance and no clues were left. It's as if she stepped off the face of the earth.

BTW, it blows my mind that she could have disappeared in that area. The house is still there and it's literally just a few blocks from where she walked to. The business she walked to is today a Starbucks. I used to work around that area. Though it has changed a little bit the area was said to be well lit even back in 1977, and its on the edge of campus. It's not like its in the middle of nowhere. There are houses and university buildings all around that area. It was 11pm on a Thursday evening when she went out. And literally one of the largest bars in Bloomington is just a couple of blocks away which I'm sure would have been open at that time of night. I also understand that the following week after her disappearance was spring break for the campus.
