Police seek public's assistance locating missing Lawrence Co. man

Indiana State Police Bloomington District requested the public's assistance of missing Mitchell man, Mike James Leatherman, on Wednesday evening.

Leatherman, 44, was last seen on Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. at the Mitchell McDonald's parking lot, according to ISP. He was wearing a blue shirt with a "Just Do It" logo, black jacket, blue nylon sweatpants, and tennis shoes.

Police describe leatherman as a white male, 5'11, 225 pounds, brown hair, and blue eyes. The 44-year-old has a shaved bald head and goatee.

Arrested for a number of charges including Auto Theft, Failure to Appear (twice), Receiving Stolen Property, Public Intoxication (Knox Co. Court Records). Search continues for missing Mitchell man

“The investigation continues to evolve and progress,” Durnil wrote in an email interview. “ISP routinely gathers new tips and leads daily. ... Like with any investigation of this type, there are difficulties for investigators so we would like to continue to encourage the public to give us any information they might have.

“... At this time, there is not enough evidence or credible information to be certain that Mike is deceased or alive.”

Durnil said a private Mitchell citizen is offering a $5,000 reward to those who provide information that leads to finding Leatherman.

A flyer circulating on social media ascertains “at least two people know” what happened to Leatherman.
