IN - Mom tries to outrun train, kills herself & 2 kids

  • #41
If she were a drunk driver and killed someone would anyone here say that she does not deserve more suffering?

The fact is that reckless is reckless and if it causes a death then it needs to be punished.

There is just absolutely NOTHING so important that you must try to out run a train so BIG Deal if your late for something??
It happens!

The fact is if this was deaths caused my a drunk driver no one here would have sympathy.
What this women did was just as much as illegal.

I think the death of a child, from any reason other than intent to kill them, is a punishment more heinous than anything else you could impose on someone.

I agree with you, but the fact remains that they still have to be tried for any crimes committed. Our court system isn't set up to accept "grief" as a remedy.

I know this woman died, if I had been in her position, I think that I would pray for the same. I don't think I could live with myself knowing that I stupidly, unnecessarily and negligently caused the death of my children.

I only have one child - so my first response would be that I wouldn't want to live with my kid dead - but if you have two other ones you love just as much - that would be beyond difficult. Half of you wants to die, the other half wants to live for the other two. It would suck, for sure. When I read she died, I closed my eyes for a minute - to absorb how horrible that is for the remaining kids. At LEASE (if you can find a silver lining) there won't be a point where one kid is thinking mom wished it were them instead of the sibling, or the mom would have to look at them and think of the others every time - lots of messed up things happen in the wake of tragedies. The kids can probably move on better this way.

If our system had a "grief" clause as a punishment, everyone would claim to be grieving. Now, if we could give them a pill to CAUSE grief to people who don't feel any over their actions... that would be cool.

Its definately going to suck for the rest of the family.

I think you're on to something with that "grief pill" theory though!! Maybe if we gave it to them IN prison I could go along with it!! LOL Just so long as they also got six feet of rope just in case they want to save the state the cost of their executions.

Mother has died.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-070911hammond-mother,1,7600066.story
A mother caught on video more than a week ago trying to race a freight train with her mini-van in northwest Indiana, before two of her children were killed when their vehicle was hit by two trains, died of her injuries early today.

Edie Bolanos, 32, of Hammond was pronounced dead at 2:10 a.m. at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where she had been in critical condition since the Sept. 1 crash in Hammond, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Lord knows I've pulled some crazy stuff in my life where I'm grateful to still be here today. This leaves me with a bad feeling in my stomach. So senseless. So very, very unnecessary. Three lives wiped out, just like that. No, the mom shouldn't have done what she did. But man. :(

On THAT we agree. :-) I have no problem with criminals committing suicide. You just HAD to quote me when I put LEASE instead of LEAST in my post so I could look illiterate, huh? :blushing:

I'll treat it like I do my hair in the morning. I look at it once and as long as I don't look at it again - it's fine. :-)
