IN - New Albany: Mother, two children found dead in creek

  • #701
I understand murder/suicide, but why nakkid, why a park, why a shallow creek. Just to odd. That's the part that doesn't fit IMO.

The naked and creek part could be religious ideation. A natural "God made" stream as opposed to a bath tub. I'm leaning heavily towards religion playing a part IF it's ruled murder/suicide. That is entirely my opinion.

most folks who are very involved in a religion or dogma who then have delusions for whatever mental health reason, find that their delusions and hallucinations have heavy religious overtones.

Doesn't mean that the religion is to blame but it just follows logic. Someone who is very religious who suffers mental illness will likely have religion as the central theme in that illness just as it was in their pre-mentally ill life.

Makes sense to me.

Been following from the beginning, terrible tragedy. IMO, religion is a scapegoat for those that don't want to accept truths, no matter what they be. I've been there I've been on the edge thankfully didn't jump. However I can visualize JC goin to the creek in freezing cold, resolving herself to the beyond, convincing her oldest he would be doing the lords work, thus no struggle. Then drowning child and then being overcome by cold and water herself. Moo

Wednesday, Floyd County Prosecutor Keith Henderson said he would make a public push to get answers: "I'm going to convene an investigative grand jury that will come together and stay convened until their work is finished."

Henderson says he's not getting answers from the New Albany Police. "The part that's troubling to me is that there has been no other information coming forward from investigators or anyone else that I am aware of. I am not sure why, but that is unacceptable."

35-year-old Jamie Clutter, her 10-year-old son Brandon, and 6-month-old daughter Katelyn were all found nude, dead in a creek in Binford Park last month. The family had just moved from Washington State in December, when Michael, the husband and father, found a new job.

That's pretty bad when the prosecutor says he can't get answers from LE!

Good for him, he isn't going to let this stay dormant.

More from that article

New Albany Police Chief Sherri Knight says, "There's nothing new to forward to his office. It's still an open and active investigation. We are awaiting some final documentation...the primary documents that we're waiting for are the toxicology results from the medical examiner's office."

But Floyd County Coroner Leslie Knable says toxicology reports were back this week. She says the autopsy hasn't been typed up, but detectives haven't called her.

WDRB's Gilbert Corsey did. Knable told him, "I do not believe we will find the cause of death based on that toxicology. We're not. We're not going find the cause of death in toxicology in any of those victims."

Detectives say they have not ruled out a double murder-suicide. Michael Clutter was adamant that would not be the case, telling WDRB News earlier, "My wife was really, really kind."

Now he will go face-to-face with the prosecutor along with the detectives and anyone else associated with the case.

Henderson says, "At the conclusion of grand jury there will either be indictments or a report made by me."

In a statement released Wednesday afternoon, spokeswoman Erynn McInnis said that the prosecutor’s office had not received any new information from New Albany Police investigators since mid-March.

The purpose is “investigative in nature and meant to gather information,” McInnis said in an emailed statement.

Floyd County Coroner Leslie Knable said Wednesday that she is still awaiting autopsy reports, including toxicology tests, from the Kentucky Medical Examiners office in Louisville.

She said she expects the causes of death may wind up being the same for the children and for Jamie Clutter.

Michael Clutter was adamant that would not be the case, telling WDRB News earlier,
"My wife was really, really kind."

So was Andrea Yates, Susan Smith and several other women....
That seems like an odd reason for this not to be a murder suicide.
Is there more to his comment that we didn't hear?

Plenty of "really kind" people kill people.

They aren't talking about it, but wouldn't they also be doing testing on lung tissue and things like that? I wonder if that is back and if it is known if they died in that creek or somewhere else?

Thanks for bringing that up again... it's an important question. COD may be drowning, but I haven't heard anyway say they proved they drowned there.

"she expects the causes of death may wind up being the same for the children and for Jamie Clutter."

I'm still not buying that this was a murder-suicide...it's too difficult to explain how it was accomplished for many reasons and none of them have to do with PPP or religion, they have to do with logistics.

If no drugs were taken... it seems to make it even more illogical it could have or would have been a murder-suicide.

Could it be possible that no persons close to her (husband, mother, father, siblings) noticed anything strange about her. Had she ever suffered depression in the past. Maybe after her first pregnancy? There was a huge gap in ages between the two children. Was this latest an unexpected pregnancy? I'm sorry, but the husband seems off to me. Very soft-spoken. Just seems weird and odd.

I don't think anyone has come forward that said she suffered depression or anything strange.

I still just can't fathom she walked those kids all the way to the creek in that very cold weather weather, disrobed them, drowned them in turn, disrobed herself and held her head in shallow water to drown herself.

Has anyone ever said the kids showed any sign of struggle? I can see the young one unable to do so much. But what are we saying here, that the boy just stood and watched her drown the sister then let her drown him with no struggle? Just not seeing it.

Are they saying there are no drugs in the stomachs or blood stream that contributed to the deaths?

  • #714
I just don't know how they will be able to prove a murder case.
Way too many uncertain cases of late.

Hmmmm...what church does Chief Knight belong to?

I have been off this site for a week now, no activity on this local neighborhood crime to where I live. So I am half in and half out of sleep last night and I open my eyes and there on the news is MC!! Talking about the police asking him if he has weapons, and Chinese THROWING STARS!! I was like WTF!! Well, hopping on our local news sites www.wlky.com, www.whas11.com and www.wdrb.com sure enough they are calling for a grand jury now on this case and hope to finally get some answers. I am totally unfamilir with all this legal stuff. How does a grand jury work and what does that mean? I was groggy but MC looked like crap in my opinion. I am glad this is now being pushed for answers. I won't knock the New Albany, IN police...I live here..this case is unlike anything have seen before if I read correctly...but I will say....I hope LE can work with higher ups and let's get some damn answers!!!!!!

Video interview w/Michael with this article

The police chief Sherri Knight says they have still not received the toxicology report, but were notified it was ready Wednesday afternoon. That occurred only after a WDRB News reporter called the coroner to confirm it was ready.

Clutter says he noticed deep cuts on his wife's hands, bruises on her arms and says police asked him specific questions about certain weapons.

"They asked me if I had guns, Chinese throwing stars, a sword or a knives," he said.

Police gave him this explanation for his wife's injuries "that it was because of the environment but not life threatening."

Police told him some of her injuries might have been result of the rocky creek bed. Chief Knight says there's no indication weapons were involved.

Does it seem they are playing some cat and mouse game with MC?

Clutter: noticed deep cuts on his wife's hands, bruises on her arms

Clutter: "They asked me if I had guns, Chinese throwing stars, a sword or a knives,"

Police: Your wife's injuries "
might have been result of the rocky creek bed" and "there's no indication weapons were involved"

I'm still convinced this is another sad case of PPD/PPP murder/suicide. I think Michael is having a very hard time reconciling it, and is pressuring the DA, and the DA is now pressuring the PD to wrap it up.

Looks like there was some pre-existing conflict or tension between the DA and the PD, for the DA to come out as he did yesterday.

I don't think this will go to a grand jury. The tox reports are now moving where they need to go. The PD is on notice that they need to wrap it up. The DA will issue a report before too long.
