An Indiana couple faces charges after police say a toddler’s tongue was cut down the middle with scissors or a similar object.
Holly Cota, 28, and boyfriend Scott Edwards, 33, were arrested Friday in connection to injuries her son suffered, which sent him to Union Hospital in Terre Haute
While at the hospital, the staff determined a sharp device, most likely scissors, was used to slice the toddler’s tongue and cut off the tip, according to police.
Physicians called authorities to the hospital after determining the laceration was inflicted.
Police were called to Union Hospital after Cota took her son there with multiple injuries to his head and abdomen. An examination also showed the child's tongue was split in the middle and the tip of his tongue was missing.
Cota told investigators the child fell out of his bed twice and sustained the injuries. She said she was the only person with the child when the injuries occurred.
Cota said she was initially afraid to take the child for medical treatment because of his condition.
