@Boxer IMO they probably will wait until all the evaluations are back before they change any plea. I have followed this case from the start. IMO there must be some type of mental illness if the courts issued two psych evaluations. I was looking back on comments. Did the papers ever report if he had a mental illness? Prayers for the families. I cant imagine how hard this must be on them all.

Insanity is a defense plea to avoid normal consequences.

I have read that is very rare that insanity plea works.

@Purduegirl12 - there are almost always 2 psych reports - State & defense each have their own doctors. And sometimes 3 - one ordered by the Judge.

How in the world did he get out on bond after he was arrested on murder charges? WOW
In Utah, he plead guilty and got 15 years for manslaughter in '98 then got out on parole in 2012. Moved to Indiana commited some offences but Utah didn't want him back then committed the murder in Indiana. Terrible. His lawyers are doing the insanity thing but he is telling the judge he's competent????? Compare that nutball to TJ and it makes TJ look completely competent to stand trial IMO. If he plead guilty he could do a deal MOO.

The 2/25/2020 has been on there for few months. Doesn't look like it has been updated from yesterday

Sure since pretrial meeting was 1/31 possibly the results if different will be posted Monday.

Dissapointing to see a young man like TJ not wake up after murdering someone, and take the path being honest and pleading guilty would bring him. In the end, the jail years he served would less than it seems at first, but committing to being a person who is deceptive and calculating is a life sentence.

Are there any court dates before his trial on the site? TIA! :)
No, that is it. But it doesn't look like all reports are back from Psych eval.

You're a peach Tippy Lynn!!

I apologize for asking you about all these Indiana cases I'm following. Since they changed their website I have not been able to get access. I REALLY appreciated all your help. I'll stop following Indiana cases now.... just finish up with the ones I have now. :)

Lafayette man pleads guilty to murder of man inside his apartment

August 26, 2020

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Talmadge Russell Jasper pleaded guilty to murder Wednesday for beating Ryan Martin to death inside Jasper's Pheasant Run apartment on May 23, 2019.

The court will decide at sentencing whether Jasper is mentally ill, and prosecutors will dismiss charges of residential entry and invasion of privacy at sentencing.

Jasper testified Wednesday that he was hearing voices and having hallucinations at the time he kill 29-year-old Martin, who was dating Jasper's ex-girlfriend.
[.....]
Jasper's guilty plea makes the insanity defense a moot issue, but his mental health could be an issue raised during his sentencing hearing.

The plea agreement states that prosecutors will not contest Jasper's claims of being mentally ill.

If Tippecanoe Superior 2 Judge Steve Meyer finds Jasper mentally ill, it will not affect the sentencing range of between 45 and 65 years in prison. It might affect Jasper's placement inside the Department of Corrections so that he can receive mental health treatment.

Jasper's sentencing hearing is scheduled for Nov. 2.
