For convenience. Maybe already posted.
ISP looking for caregivers of young boy found dead in Southern Indiana woods

<.....>

“This obviously could be a national thing,” Huls said. “It could be a child from any location. We’re not going to preclude anybody, and we’re going to look at any information that comes in that could answer the question of the identity of this child.”

ISP has asked the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s forensics services team for assistance. The organization told WAVE News law enforcement contacts them around a dozen times a year to ask for their help with cases similar to this one.

“(The media) is a great way to spread awareness that we do need help, that authorities are trying to identify a little boy, so that we can increase the chances of getting that one tip, that one piece of information we need to help resolve this case,” Carol Schweitzer, manager of the forensic services team for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said.

When asked if the boy could be Codi Bigsby, a missing 4-year-old child from Virginia, Huls said it was unlikely.

“We don’t believe that’s going to be a match but we are looking into that,” he said.

Authorities are awaiting autopsy results before declaring the case a homicide. Currently, it remains a “death investigation.”

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. However, it’s possible the boy’s cause of death will not be released to maintain the investigation’s integrity.

Southern Indiana community holds vigil for 5-year-old boy found in a suitcase

"...An autopsy was done, but it didn't determine how the boy died. They're still waiting on toxicology results, which could take several weeks.

For people near the area where the boy was found, the case has been devastating.

"It is horrendous. It is horrible to think someone would do something like this and toss that human soul aside," said Sweeney.

Dozens gathered for a vigil at New Pekin Park on Sunday, making sure despite his identity being a mystery, the little boy is not forgotten.

"We are just not going to stop until we know who he is and where he is from. And, you know, It's just devastating," said Yvonne Casey, one of the vigil organizers. "They have no identity of this child, nobody has come forth, and that's what makes me so sad because, like I said, there has to be somebody out there missing this little boy."

"Maybe someone will come forward and identify him. Get him some justice, that's what we're praying for," said Janet Irk, who lives in New Pekin.

ISP created a tip line dedicated to information on the young boy. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-888-437-6432. "

Could it be he still has all of his baby teeth, and that is why they feel he is closer to 5-years-old? I agree he is tall for 5-years, but I am sure they are being very thorough in his case.
I think they typically estimate age on teeth but that seems to vary wildly. My kids both lost many teeth by 5 while their cousins hadn’t lost any by age 8.
They seem fairly confident he’s 5, so maybe there are other ways they can estimate age.

From what I recall from the forensics class I took--Teeth are a big one at that age, but there's also bone growth, skull growth, proportions of different parts of the skull, and some others I can't remember off the top of my head.

I was wondering about the unique suitcase. Has anyone looked to see if was only sold in certain places or a limited number were sold? I will do some looking after my bath.

I see similar ones sold at airports all the time.

I found this strange FB page that has a photo of a very similar suitcase. It looks like the photo was taken at a Ross and whoever is running this page is using it resell their goods.

EDIT: Please let me know if I should send this in as a tip

https://www.facebook.com/IldaResendiz.Luna/photos/998007431090227

It says this page is based in Mexico so I doubt it's connected, but it's really good to know that those suitcases were sold at Ross. Is are there even Ross stores in Mexico? But it's likely whoever bought the suitcase the boy was found in got it from Ross.

My personal belief is that page is run by someone who travels between the US and Mexico often and posts the stuff on Facebook to see if anyone in Mexico wants them to buy something for them while they're at Ross. I just looked, Ross doesn't exist outside of the US, so I think it's just a person reselling/gauging interest in Mexico- I don't see anything strange about it.

Per Google, there are 2 Ross in Louisville, Ky and 1 in Clarksville, In. Google map attached from Clarksville to New Pekin. Louisville is just across the river from Clarksville.

I really don’t understand why they haven’t released a sketch of this poor little boy. While only a precious few may know he’s missing surely there are many more who have seen him and would recognize him given the chance. But without a picture they aren’t going to call the tipline unless they call in to give the name of every 5-6 year old black male they know but didn’t happen to see the past two weeks. Yes, he’s unusually tall for his age but to my knowledge that hasn’t even been pointed out, just the actual height. And that didn’t register as tall for me until I read it here. I’m sure many people who saw this story on the news missed the fact that he’s tall for his age too.

I understand wanting to hold back some facts, like his clothing, so they can use it to test people claiming to involved. And I certainly understand why they wouldn’t want to show actual pictures of the body. But I’m genuinely baffled (BAFFLED!) as to the reasoning behind no sketch. I wouldn’t think you’d need a reconstruction expert when the boy’s only been dead for a week and cause of death wasn’t extreme head trauma. Any police sketch artist should be able to come up w/a reasonable likeness.

What am I missing?

NCMEC might be working on a composite right now. (This is speculation, some other artist might be working on something.)

I totally agree! First they say this is probably not a child in the MP system, so please don't send in tips from the known databases .....we have checked that already, this boy is not "the obvious" at least my interpretation of this kind of messages....but we need your help still and again.....and then there is still no reconstruction....So how are they thinking the public will be searching their minds and memories without it? People need visuals for getting involved into/attached if you like, jock the memory......simple psychology....

They are probably working on the reconstruction IMO. Maybe some of the better artists have a list they're working on?
