After half a decade, a suspect has not been identified and an arrest has not been made in the investigation.

As News 18 reported in 2012, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office ruled that Kessler died of a gunshot wound and classified his death as a homicide.

''Indiana State Police detectives are continuing to investigate the murder of former Montgomery County Commissioner and Ladoga native, Samuel H. Kessler.

On Jan. 29, 2012, police were contacted after an acquaintance of Kessler went to his residence to check on his well-being. When the acquaintance arrived, he found the door ajar and Kessler dead inside the residence. Kessler was 94 years old at the time of his death, and his residence was in the 8700 block of State Road 234, near Ladoga.


ISP detectives continue to seek the assistance of the public and urge anyone with information to contact Indiana State Police Detective Harper by calling 765-567-2125 or emailing to [email protected], or contact Montgomery County Sheriff's Department Detective Aaron French by calling 765-362-3740 ext. 220 or by emailing to [email protected].''
