IN - Shanda Sharer, 12, Madison, 11 January 1992

This poor, poor, poor mother. Fighting for justice is what has to be keeping her going. My family member was murdered. I was too young to have even understood, but through the years I didn't understand why only ONE person in the family went to the trials. To sit and listen how your loved one who never in their life was anything but a good father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend and then to look at four lousy, creeps and listen how they accidently blew your loved one away with a shotgun while only getting $48.00 and some change I am kind of understanding now. It's horrific crimes against innocents that just tears me apart. We've also been told not to speak of it and I do know all four of my loved ones murderers are walking around free and easy as I write this. Where is justice? Justice for this poor child?

Filly,

I am so sorry about your family member. For $48.00 dollars. Just shaking my head at that. When did human life become so disposable? And the 4 that did it are free as a bird:mad: So sick of stories of injustice like that!!

mygirlsadie, this case sickens me also. This is one of the cases that never left me once I read about it. Sometimes I can almost hear Shanda say 'Mommy' . For the life of me, I can't understand how those 4 beasts can live with that image and voice in their heads.

Thanks for posting Filly and mygirlsadie. Just wanted to remind people about Loveless' parole board hearing (IIRC Dec. 6th)

Prayers for Shanda and Jacque. Jacque's strength is amazing.

This is just so much bull. When a person is sentenced to serve a certain amount of time they should have to serve every minute of it. They shouldn't get one day off of their sentence for every day served or days off for taking college courses. That just burns me. Our legal system is such a darn mess.

I can't even imagine what kind of teenagers would do such a horrible thing to a 12 year old kid. They should be locked up forever.

Was this case made into a TV movie? It sure is familiar and I know I haven't read the book. If I was the mother of the 12 yr old I don't know what I would do. I would just be so angry at the whole system.

And what infuriates me too Bobbi is they are given time off for good behavior. Why in the HELL are they rewarded for complying with the rules of the prison. They shouldn't be given incentives for something that is the rules of compliance and expected of them in the first place.:furious:

And they should get time added when they do not adhere to the rules but never time off for abiding by the rules. That is why they are there to follow the rules instructed.

I am glad to see many states dropping the "time off for good behavior" and adhering to the rule they must do around 85% of their sentence.

Exactly! OMG it's ridiculous..time off for good behavior? You got to be kidding me! You better be on your best behavior in prison or you get time added to your sentence is the way I look at it. I get so sick and tired of hearing people getting out for 'good behavior'.. Oh gee I know a lady who has a brother in prison and all I hear from her is 'oh my poor brother it's so hot in there they don't even have air con.' or 'my brother has no money on his books to buy extra food if I don't send him some so I have to send it to him I can't imagine him standing in line at comissary and realizing he has no money'...blah blah.. by the way he is in jail for attempted murder! He stuck a man in trash bags after beating him with a baseball bat and put him in the trunk of his car and ran the car into the river. Somehow the man escaped the trunk and lived to tell the story! (it was a robbery)

keep in mind my borther in law was killed by a drunk driver, so I dont want anyone to think, I think a dui is no big deal---- but it is apples an oranges compared to the INTENTIONAL toture and murder these girls PURPOSELY PLANNED AND COMMITED-sorry scm- you and I love each other- but as usual soooooooooo disagree when it comes to this

SCM, I love you too, but I am with j2m on this one.

I say in this case a eye for a eye and a tooth for a tooth ! If this was my child this happend to I dont know one law that would stop me from taking care of the bussiness! :furious: :furious:

No worries, angel! Believe me, I understand the feelings of people who never want this woman to walk free again.

Still, by nature, I fall on the side of hope for reformation for many who make terrible choices when they are young.

I do not know if this woman has changed. If she is released, only time will tell if that was a good, bad or neutral decision. My prayers remain with Shanda's family as this is obviously very hard for them.

IMO I have no idea why they would let slugs like this out of prison? I have heard many people say give them a chance ,What chance did they give this poor girl [NONE] and that is exactly what chance I would give them .

I dont think the courts know what reformed means, but I do! sorry for what you have done or the inmate is mentally capable to enter society and I say these girls miss on all points!
IMO what is the difference between these girls and any other murder ?
IMO They didnt spend life in prision or get gased!:furious: :furious: :furious:

IMO who ever would do this to a little girl is lower than a slug !

I am with you on that one.. Nothing or noone would or could stop me.

Time will tell and maybe this will happen to one more child why take the chance ?
I do understand what you say in your posts and if this girl was in for drugs or stealing or almost anything I would agree give her a chance ! The thing is she wasnt in for drugs or stealing she is in for brutally murdering a poor child !:furious:

I have a few questions about this Loveless prisoner. If she was retarded then, is she now? Retardation is not something you outgrow, is it? I always thought it was a physical disability that impacts the brain and sometimes the motor skills. Am I way off base, here?

Then, if she is denied an early release and she pursues a new trial, can she be resentenced and receive the death penalty? According to comments on the CrimeLibrary, by the prosecutor, the death penalty was available to juveniles when the crime was committed. So if she receives a new trial, then after she is found guilty, she could be sentenced to death, right?

If she could be sentenced to the death penalty and the prosecutor agrees to seek the death penalty, I don't think I would mind seeing her get a new trial.

If the prosecutor were to tell her lawyer, "no early release deal, and if you want a new trial, bring it on, but understand, that the State will be asking for the death penalty," what do you think this bleeding heart Small lawyer guy will do?

Salem

I think when you are given a new trial it is as if the first trial didn't take place at all. I've watched the motion for a retrial for Cindy Sommers on CTV recently and that is what was said. I think it would be the same for anyone who is retried. Everyone one of this creeps should have gotten the death penalty. How they could even think of releasing one of them early is just beyond me.

Please hold Shanda's mother, Jacque, in your hearts tomorrow ( Dec.6th).
She has to listen to Melinda Loveless and her team spew forth more garbage, yet again.
It is so hard fo me not to say hateful things when it comes to Shanda's case. I mean I REALLY have to hold back!! Can't even imagine how Jacque holds her composure.

The things that I want to post keep getting erased by my backspace button!!! If Jacque can show such strength hearing and facing one of the beasts that tortured and murdered her child ... then I can refrain from ranting, this one time.

Instead I will pray for Jacque. Pray that her voice and Shanda's voice will be heard. Maybe, Loveless might even actually hear Shanda call out "Mommy".

RIH Melinda Loveless!!! RIH!!!!

Nappy, would you really feel like giving this girl or any of the four girls that tortured and murdered Shanda another chance if the motive was drugs or money? Really?!

IMHO, the "motive" for this crime was sexual confusion and teenage insanity exacerbated by mob mentality - how is that worse than torturing and murdering someone because you want their money or you're on drugs?

I respect your opinion but am not necessarily following the logic behind it.

Thank you for your beautiful words, Talisman and welcome to WS! I hold this crime and it's aftermath very close to my heart-I think that Shanda's Mom is an amazing soul. I don't know how you live each day when someone so precious to you has been obliterated senselessly, and then you have to face the killers one by one being released. I hope Melinda is haunted-I don't believe she is, but it would be wonderful if her nights were agonizing.

believe09,

Thank you so much for your warm welcome. You truly don't know how much it meant to me.:blushing: .

Shanda's brutal torture/murder has never left me, either. Odd, isn't it, how a complete stranger can be haunted by this .... and the beasts who did it don't even seem to be bothered in the least (imo). ***sigh***

Jacque has shown so much strength through the years. Can't begin to imagine the pain that she has suffered. Losing someone you love is tragic enough, but in this nightmarish way has to be torturous.

believe09, thank you again for your warm welcome.

Thinking of Jacque and Shanda. My prayers are with you.

On a side not, the Desiderata was posted in my grandparents house on a huge board that they had hung in their kitchen. I read it and quoted it thousands of time, as did my siblings and cousins. My grandparents were special, loving, accepting people so thank you for bringing back some very warm memories.

believe09,

Desiderata is beautiful isn't it? I'm so glad seeing that verse from it brought you warm memories. Your grandparents sound like they were wonderful people.

I hope you have a very special day, wrapped in warmth and care :blowkiss:
