Looking at the skull--He has an exceptionally long narrow face, especially narrow through the jaw.

*The key thing growing up in Rochester during that time, the Redwings were not a well known franchise outside of being the farm team to the Baltimore Orioles. I would not expect for there to be fans of the franchise outside of the greater Rochester Area. Trying to find a picture of him.

I agree about the Redwings and the hat. The most distant connection I can see is a family member of somebody who went to RIT or UR or one of the smaller colleges in the area. We went to a Redwings game the weekend the middlest Carbuff offspring graduated from RIT, so somewhere in my stuff I have a Redwings wrist band (they were giving them away as a promotion).

Possibly somebody who had been through Rochester and got some merchandise through a goodwill-type charity box.

I suppose there might be a few fans in Baltimore with minor league merchandise, same as there are a few fans in Boston who have Red Sox minor league stuff. (Mookie Betts Greenville Drive shirt, anyone?)

Burns Harbor is less than 50 miles from Chicago - I'd be willing to bet that he's from there.

Time frame is way off but I wonder if it could have been a runaway who got hit by a car while hitchhiking?

the newspaper clipping file on NamUs has since been removed (I'm assuming it was once there), but theres information about this guy on his Doe Network profile!
The height estimate was more lenient at 5'8" - 5'10", and somehow they also estimated his weight at 180-200lbs (take that with a grain of salt as it didn't carry over to NamUs).
Black hair must have been found at the scene as his hair is described as black here (judging by the facial recons I'm guessing the hair was curly?). Also wondering why this didn't carry over to NamUs.
The size of the Fila's was 8.5, which is not very large, which leads me to believe he was closer to the 5'7" end of the spectrum.
He was found in a wooded area between U.S. 20 and Old Porter Rd.
His COD was trauma - his left leg and collarbones were broken, leading LE to believe that he had been struck on his side or jumped from a vehicle.
(MOO - it requires a lot of pressure to break your femur and your hip, especially since this seemed like a young healthy guy, so he must have been struck HARD )

Looking up US 20 (which passing thru is called Melton Road) and Old Porter Rd., I think this was the location where the young man was found. Wooded areas are right off the Highway. It doesn't seem like a super busy area, but as you can see there's businesses/houses on one side. I don't know if it looked the same in the 80s.
Sadly, this does seem like someone who might have been walking along the side of the road and was struck and abandoned where he fell, or perhaps dragged into the nearby woods. I can't see someone moving themselves with all his injuries.
