Trial is just beginning. They've done nothing to improve the sound.

Calling Tessa Shepherd, Tammy's co-worker.

They are finished with the first witness and are taking a break. They changed the camera angle so JO can be seen. Defense tried to get the rape testimony thrown out but I think the judge sided with Prosecution to keep it in. There was also an issue about introducing the mental illness issue but, again, the judge sided with Pros. to keep it out. The judge is really hard for me to understand; she talks away from the mic during the conversations.

I had to leave for several hours and when I came back, the stream was off. When I came back to check again, they are now in the middle of presenting evidence. Tools (which I missed most of), O's clothing, DNA, fingerprints, T's clothing, fingernail clippings, cell phone, jigsaw blade, scroll saw... he has a whole boxful of stuff.

Among the refrigerated items: Sexual assault kit, DNA/blood swabs from the bathroom floor, kitchen floor, kitchen sink, kitchen drawer, refrigerator handle; bloody towels, dish rag, T-shirt just to name a few. This item caught me way off guard and it was hard to hear; a red dinner plate with a knife, fork, spoon and body organs. They ended with item number 233.

They took a break.

They all came back at a little after 4 and are going to view the crime scene photos - over a hundred of them. All members of the jury were given a set of pics to view, one at a time, as LE (Detective Sergeant?) Mark Dobson describes what they are seeing.

They just now finished for the day. Pictures in the #1-40 group were of the exterior of the home; pics within the #41-114 group were mostly of the areas they took evidence from, like blood spots on the door, the kitchen sink, the plate and pics #115-131 were of the victim's body in the bathroom.

First thing tomorrow morning, they will have some of the evidence placed on a table for the jury to take a close look. Poor folks; they probably won't sleep well at all tonight.

They are taking a brief break.
First thing this am, Detective Mark Dobson showed/explained to the jury the physical evidence, which included the scroll saw, jig saw blade, stainless steel tongs, cell phone, hair strands, a couple of steak knives, fingernail clippings from the autopsy, multiple DNA blood swabs, bloody paper towels, T-shirt with blood, dinner plate and eating utensils and other things.

Defense gave him a stack of the pictures and asked him to pick out the ones that showed something other than the door was busted, the victim was murdered and something was eaten. Dobson didn't understand the instruction so Defense asked him to pick out the ones that tell us anything about the rape and burglary. I estimate he put about 50 pictures on the screen and each time Defense asked 'is there anything here?' and each time he answered 'no'.

For some reason, Dobson overlooked the T-shirt with blood on it; the other LE told him that O was wearing a blue t-shirt so he went back the next day to get it. I'd be willing to bet that Defense will bring this up in closing statements. He could say there were a number of pics taken of a broken statue, which didn't really have much to do with the murder (apparently) and yet, Dobson failed to see the importance of the t-shirt.

They are showing the video of the detective interviewing O at the police station. Mostly chit-chatting with each other right now. There was something about this video that Defense objected to but I think the judge over-ruled again.

The video has been playing since they came back from lunch. In it, the detectives left him alone some time ago. His left arm is shackled to the wall; he can stand but he can't put it up on the table like he can with his right arm.

He was talking to himself, making noises but it's hard to tell if some of the noises are coming from the court room. The screen showing him isn't big enough for us to see what he's doing.

Everyone has been watching intently. He is seated so he can watch the video, too. I keep wondering what he's thinking. For me, watching it was very mentally uncomfortable.

The detective has finally come back.

Nicole Hoffman, ISP forensic scientist who tested items sent in this case, testifying that swabs taken from a knife found at the scene was consistent with Tammy Blanton's DNA. Testing did not positively confirm blood.

They are on break.

I'm glad Aprile is tweeting because I can't understand much of what Hoffman is saying. She speaks fairly loudly and clearly when she's describing what she's looking at but then her voice changes when she says what the results are. Maybe I need better computer speakers.

Hoffman also confirms Blanton's DNA on jigsaw, frying pan, plate, fork, steak knife and tongs. Oberhansley's DNA also found on frying pan.

This is the attorney who has been watching and taking notes so far. I wonder if he's the most knowledgeable of DNA stuff?
