Just after 10:45 p.m. on Sep. 17, 2025, Sophie Igou called 911 and said she'd found her youngest child cold to the touch. Minutes later, officers with the Shelbyville Police Department found her standing in the driveway of her mobile home, holding 22-month-old Jasper Igou wrapped in a sheet.
Oh good lord. Just when I think I've heard the worst case, then something like this comes along.

I'd have to think that the woman was mentally ill to believe this statement, IF she believes it. If she doesn't really believe it (like, how could she?!?!) did she really think LE was going to believe it??? So basically, he's been dead long enough to decompose in his crib, and then she picks him up and carries him outside? Just ick. His siblings need to be taken out of that house ASAP! I hope they end up in a much better place than that hell hole.

Though Igou, 28, said she'd just found the boy unresponsive while checking on him, police wrote that the boy "appeared to have been deceased for a significant amount of time." A search of the home would uncover "decomposing material" in the boy's crib, believed to be remnants of his body.

She was charged with neglect (ya think???).

According to court documents filed in Shelby County on Tuesday, 28-year-old Sophie Igou was charged with:
  • Two counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in death, each a Level 1 felony
  • Three counts of neglect of a dependent, each a Level 6 felony.
