This is shocking.

18-year-old Trinity Shockley of Mooresville, Indiana has been arrested for planning a mass shooting at Mooresville High School. The Mooresville Metropolitan Police Department received info from the FBI that Shockley chose Valentine's Day to perpetrate the shooting.

Court documents indicate that Shockley is transgender and goes by the name Jamie. Shockley sent messages to people on Discord stating that they were planning the shooting for an entire year, included photos of an AR-15 magazines and posted a countdown. Police searches in Shockley's bedroom found multiple photos of mass shooters Dylan Roof, Nikolas Cruz and Andrew Blaze – who killed three co-workers at a Pennsylvania supermarket in June 2017. Shockley also allegedly has a heart necklace with a photo of Cruz inside.

Police found AR-15 magazines and a box of .40 caliber rounds in Shockley's father's bedroom. Police detectives also found notebooks in Shockley's backpacks in which they expressed a desire to be like mass shooter Elliot Rodger, stated that they missed school shooter Ethan Crumbley, and confessed their hatred for others.

Messages from the probable cause affidavit show that Shockley, who was posing as someone named Jamie, talked about how she had planned the shooting for more than a year, calling it "Parkland part two." These messages were sent in January.

Using the same Jamie moniker, Shockley sent more messages in February detailing her plans to carry out the mass shooting. The probable cause affidavit says she also sent images of the AR-15.

The affidavit goes on to say that Shockley met with a school counselor on Tuesday and confessed to being "sexually attracted to Nikolas Cruz." She allegedly told the counselor she had written to him on multiple occasions and had a heart necklace with his picture inside the locket.

Shockley also told police about being bullied and teased after being hit by a suspected drunk driver in 2022. The crash caused Shockley to suffer a fractured skull and brain injuries, according to report by WRTV at the time.

A school official corroborated to police that Shockley had sought mental health resources since freshman year but her father barred the teen from getting help.

Authorities say Shockley had been plotting the attack for nearly a year, admiring past mass shooters such as Nikolas Cruz, the perpetrator of the 2018 Parkland, Florida, school massacre.

The FBI received an anonymous tip through the Sandy Hook Promise’s Say Something Anonymous Reporting System, prompting an investigation. According to court documents, Shockley referred to the planned attack as “Parkland part two” and had access to an AR-15 rifle and a bulletproof vest.

I have a feeling this young person was failed repeatedly throughout their life.

A Mooresville police officer wrote in the probable cause document that the FBI tipster said a friend was planning a shooting on Feb. 14: “Tipster stated that the offender stated that he will kill his best friend (redacted) first.”

Trinity Shockley is scheduled for a contested bond hearing at 8 a.m. Tuesday. A pretrial conference is scheduled for May 19, with a jury trial set for June

Not too far from where I live - 20-30 minutes & on the way to a life long fishing hole of mine. Typical Morgan County happenings but quite rare for Mooresville IMO. Same county where Jill Behrman’s body was eventually found, 3 years after her disappearance.

The Morgan County Prosecutor’s Office is asking for a $500,000 surety, plus a $250,000 cash bond.

Court documents claim Shockley had experienced a series of tragedies and struggled with mental health, but her father denied her treatment.

MOO - father needs to be charged.

I feel like LE is getting better at stopping these before they happen and Gen Alpha teens may be more willing to tell on their friends and ask for help than previous generations. I wish they were not happening at all.

Single father, previous traumas, but community support around them....
What happened? Why did Dad not see all this/

In a decision on Feb. 20, a judge ruled that Shockley "presents a significant risk and is a threat to the safety of the community, herself or others."

She will be held without bond "pending the completion of a psychological evaluation." The order goes on to say Shockley will have to be evaluated by two court-appointed psychologists who give the court "full psychological examination reports."

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.

The head injury she had in the car accident probably left her an entirely different person than what she was before.

I was thinking along the same lines - her home life could be a living hell for whatever reason (poor parenting, substance issues &/or potential abuse of any kind - who knows at this point) & she was angry at the world as a result or combination of trauma, home life & bullying.

The bullying is likely an unending thing - in person at school & then via SM as well. Kids can be demons towards each other at that age. So glad I’m not growing up in today’s world in that regard.

Also need to consider that a public school cannot turn away a child who might be in obvious need of more specialized schooling for handling outside factors other than education (special needs, dealing with other factors which public schools may be ill-equipped in addressing). My mom is a retired teacher & said this (forcing a student with special needs into a public school) occurs way more than it should in many schools around the area from what she observed. Pardon my vocabulary if not up to par with current PC terms - that’s a challenge unto itself these days. No offense intended as a result. 👍

ETA Maybe the father needs to be evaluated as well, though she is getting close or already a legal adult.

In the documents, Shockley’s legal team also objects to the psychological evaluations because a hearing has not been hosted surrounding Shockley’s ability to “understand the proceedings and assist in the preparation of a defense.”

Shockley’s legal team states that a request for a psychological evaluation has not been made by them, stressing that written reports from court-appointed psychologists are not confidential. The team said that this could impact Shockley’s “right to remain silent” under the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

“The court’s order is effectively requiring (Shockley) to surrender (the) Fifth Amendment right to remain silent if (Shockley) wishes to have the court consider bail,” the documents said. “Counsel for (Shockley) does not believe (Shockley) is incompetent to stand trial.”
